TLDR: For pots, Ratio is my choice. For control, Breville is my choice. For simplicity and smaller batches, Moccamaster is my choice.

I just love the fact that everyone in the coffee community seems to know each other. Love the crossover and can't wait for more! Still waiting for Lance to piggyback on James Hoffman. XD
It is a weirdly small, niche community. I'm grateful for it! Funnily, Morgan reached out to me before their tiktok years because I had a semi large following for latte art. They asked me my thoughts on milk pitchers. We met shortly thereafter and have been friends since
Well, that's what coffee actually do. Make people close.
🙌🏽Praise Daddy Hoff🙌🏽
always and forever amen
Love to see Morgan collab-ing with you! They're one of the first coffee RUclipsrs I followed and you both inspire me so much to level up my coffee game :)
“So without further ado, let’s brew” absolutely love this quote and also everything else about this video and collab!! Congrats on the US Barista championship as well Morgan!!
haha thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed..
Yeah now this is a collaboration I've been waiting for!!
haha hope you enjoyed it!
Love the video, you guys are awesome and really have a very positive and refreshing energy. Keep up the good work, it's really appreciated! 😁
Love seeing you and Morgan together! I personally have the Oxo Brew 8 Cup and have simply fell in love with it. I have to be honest, since I got the Oxo, my weekday morning is made in the pot, pour over is reserved for the weekend when I have more time. on edit: the Ratio seems very similar to the Oxo. One benefit of the Oxo is the insert for smaller brews that is more conical.
Do you find yourself playing around with the custom brew function a lot or just do the presets get it done for you?
I'm really loving this journey for you. Great content, great vibes. Really uplifting stuff. 👍
Mario Contino!! I can’t believe two of my favorite coffee gurus are being followed by one of my favorite OW gurus! Thank you for all you do. At 58 “don’t fall” is my OW mantra (mostly observed). Wise and much appreciated. Keep up the great content.
@@BruceChanen Oh thanks! 🙏 Ride safely, and take care!
Lance Hedrick, you are a gem💎
Never change
I have a bright yellow moccamaster, it's such an amazing brewer!
And made in The Netherlands :)
Heck yeah! NL! Should have mentioned that!!
Watching this on the train just came to the realization that I am a coffee nerd and that Watching people brew coffee is indeed entertaining
Love seeing Morgan and Lance together 🙌🏻 two channels with pretty different vibes mesh together pretty well! Now just have to get James to the states....
Love the intro switch 😍😍😍 OH, my favorite coffee content creators!!
Oh and that's why Lance wasn't wearing shoes in the pictures on IG!! Makes sense now!
Moccamaster is such a populat brewer in Finland, my parents, both of my grandparents and a lot of my friends or their families have one!
You two have fantastic energy together. I can't wait to see more Lance + Morgan (or Morgan + Lance?) videos!
Also, I bought my Moccamaster when there was only one color and now I want some of that new brightness!
The different colors are so fun!
So I recently got the Cafe Specialita Drip Coffee Maker which I must say makes a great cup of coffee. It is SCA certified, you can set the exact temp and has an amazing set of tech features that you can run all from your smartphone. I have tried and owned other SCA brewers but I must say this has been my favorite so far. Makes a really smooth cup of coffee. I was contimplating getting the Ratio 6 but I really needed a brewer with an auto start feature.
Morgan kept lance in check with a 14 minute video. Was definitely thinking this would be more like 35 to 40 minutes long. 😁
Yeah that is a great brewer! These were my three I wanted to present for different reasons, so in a way, not really my personal top three but a three I figured would hit the boxes in each respective category.
And yes. Morgan reigned me in like never before hahaha
Love the collabs!
Yay!! Morgan and Lance, together at last!
Videorographically speaking, that is.
lol super fun hanging with them!
Together in the MCU...(Morgan coffee universe?)....
@@TheIggyTech lol. Perfect.
Great video been wondering about batch Brewers so this is very timely. Go Morgan! & Lance 😉 WBC!! ☕️☕️☕️
Great video!
I use Breville bambino and smart grinder. I have not decided between the Mochamaster or the Breville for drip yet.
I would like to make 4 cups at a time, so I think I’m leaning the master over the Breville.
I have had a Technivorm for about 7 years now and love it. I just focus on grind with it.
Frosty The Snowman reference. Dope Lance.
I love your videos. Funny and informative. I've always used and preferred pour over coffee. I love the brighter and lighter flavor. But since I don't have a lot of time now in the morning, I decided to go for drip coffee. I've been using Cafe Smart Coffee maker for a week now but it hasn't been consistent. So I'm thinking between Ratio 6 and Breville Precision Brewer. Which one would you recommend? Thanks for your advice !
The mokkamaster gives a lot of possibilities for manipulatiing the brew. The only batch brewer i can manage to get a flat bed out of. Great machine.
HOLY SMOKES MORGAN WON?!?
I don't know how I missed it BUT CONGRATS NONE THE LESS WHOOOOOOOOOO
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎉🎊🎊🎉🎊🎊
Truly so happy for them
Thats so cool to see you together ! thanks a lolt for the video Lance, always a pleasure you just reached max level of entertainment with Morgan as guess :) Im a poor over guy (because i dont have my BDB yet XD) do you think those machine come close to what you can do with a V60 or a next level brewer ? Thanks and have a great day !
i fucking love your videos, been watching since round video 3
And now I want to buy a coffee machine for work. Well played Lance and Morgan. Well played!
Haha! Step into our web
JP has my respect for his total lack of narcissism despite being such a big figure. He's language is companionate towards others. Allowing his vulnerability to surface and beholding Faith... good signs that all that knowledge hasn't gone up to his head but to his heart.
There used to be a great cheapish Bonavita machine that I liked a bit more than the Moccamaster cause it had decent temperature control and a wider shower.
You definitely have to start the brew without the carafe in place on the Breville if you're doing flat bottom pots. Also, its impossible to find the taller flat filters it came with. I had to settle on the some Bunn commercial filters that are a little too big, but work (they're also a bit too fast). A good brewer, but I still find myself making french press more often.
Hi Lance, thanks for the breakdown but was wondering a couple things -
1- Do you plan on doing more detailed deep dives on these machines individually?
2- Was there a reason behind not using the "plug" section on top of the ratio's basket?
More of these please.
Melitta EPour and the Wilfa Performance would be interesting as well. Especially the Melitta is somewhat of an automated V60
I'm using a Behmor Brazen in my shop and it does great work with light, fruity coffees. Any experience with it?
You guys ... Two of my favourite coffee RUclipsrs. Together. You make me smile. :)
Great video with two of my favorite coffee gurus! Only sorry Morgan’s mic seemed to go out at the 8:44 mark where there’s an edit and a move to the Ratio 6
I have an Oxo 9 cup that has a similar design to the Ratio. Are you aware of a flat bottom basket I could use in my Oxo 9 cup?
I used to have a Ninja Coffee Bar that I replaced with the Breville Precision. For a machine that (according to Hoffman) was a long time in development, 2 things that were on the Ninja are missing: no removable water tank and no volumetric dispense! You can only fill as much water as you’ll brew (not more) and you’ll wait for the very inelegant noise of empty water tank. On the Ninja I was able to select a quantity (mug, travel mug, small carafe, big carafe) and it would just do it.
Same with the other two presented. I think it is partially to dissuade people from leaving water in the tank. But fair critique. That doesn't bother me much. Nor does the water tank being immobile, but another fair critique. I don't fill from the sink
How is the coffee, Breville vs Ninja?
I currently have the Ninja Hot and Cold Brewer and was thinking about the Breville.
The inability to do single cup is kind of a big deal for me and was wondering if the taste difference is worth it?
@@skullmurdoc honestly… considering that I got the ninja for £20 and the Precision for … a lot more… no. While the Precision in Custom mode gives great, repeatable results, nothing beats a carefully crafted V60 for taste, and I sorely miss the convenience of filtering 1l of water and brewing one cup at the time.
@@Alessandro--- thank you very much.
The dream team over here 🙌
haha! thanks! Hope you enjoyed the vid!
Great video as always! I have a Technivorm but love to do larger batches, (currently I do 70gm and fill the water to the top) I am thinking the Ratio 6 may be better because of flat bottom? Keep up the amazing.
I’ve got lots of experience w/ the technivorm (my parents have one) and the ratio 6 (I have one). The technivorm is great and well built. Looks good, too. But I’ll take the ratio 6 every day and twice on Sundays. The technivorm struggles to evenly saturate the coffee bed sometimes, and I’ve seen the water reservoirs crack early. But the ratio nails it every time.
Did you try Delonghi Clessidra? It is SCA approved.
And what grind size do you prefer for filter brewers like this?(Moccamaster, Breville etc)
More little tasty tastes with company 🤠
my favorite types of tastes. The tasty ones enjoyed with company.
Bunn home brewer. Give it a look!
Great video! Thank you both. Have either of you tested the OXO Brew 8-Cup Coffee Maker? It can brew single cups with an insert, and is on the SCA recommended list. I'm interested if you have any thoughts on it.
Yes! Fantastic brewer. I would've made a top 5 video, no question.
What about long term reliability, and thoughts on which will go and go and go?
Just curious, what makes any of the Oxo brewers fall outside of your top few?
Morning. Congrats on the Barista championship Ms Ekroth.
Lance, do you have any thoughts on the Oxo 8 cup coffee maker? It's another SCA certified brewer that seems to be in line(feature wise) as the Bonavita Connosiuer.
Yeah! I think it does a good job. I did a review on it on IG like 2 years ago!
I had the oxo 9 cup and now the moccamaster. The oxo makes a great cup on par or better than the moccamaster. See James Hoffmanns video on home brewers he talks about the oxo 9, I have to imagine the 8 cup is similar. I haven't had the Bonavita but I would recommend oxo all day long in that price range. The only thing I will note is the knob quality could be better and mine started to leak out the bottom after 6 years of daily use. You can decide if that is unreasonable at that price range.
I like her! Subscribed!
An absolutely wonderful person. And makes super fun content
What do you think about the Wolf coffee maker?
Man I had no idea about pro coffee influencers before following you, Morgan and the Hoff. What a coincidence that you have "worked" with them both lately, or this comes from before? Keep up the awesome work guys.
I really want to change careers and dedicate to coffee but it's so hard to start from 0 😢.
Did you do it?
@@RoryIsNotACabbage waah, no, not yet, I need at least a couple more years
Can you please do a video on the best mid range grinder and espresso machine with a steam wand (I love milk drinks) and NGL I miss the rants 😂
Are these ones better in taste than the 4in1 Gevi?
Please do a video on the competition. Background, tasks, prep etc.
I believe Morgan had some videos on that on their page! Maybe after world's we will do something...
How much coffee was consumed prior to this recording? I love the somewhat chaotic energy! 😍
Really want to see a video with the Wolf coffee maker, its beats all of these out of the water in price here, and if its better than the Technovorm
Frosty the snowman reference!
Love my Moccamaster every day.
it is a great machine!
I have a coffee pilots shower screen for my Moccamaster. Love it! Too bad I don't think you can get the little screens anymore.
I have it too and like it. They’re still available
Are you referring to the shower head inserts from CoffeePilot?
Best to let coffee cool down to room temperature enabling taste buds to get all notes of coffee!
I'm well aware! Been doing this thing called coffee professionally for a decade lol
I'd LOVE it if there was a link to each of the machines in the description above. I'm in the market, and wouldn't mind you getting a little kickback if I make a purchase from a link you share.
Daddy Hoff bless you both.
Praise be he, patron saint of coffee
Great video you two!
Shout out to the Oxo 8 cup Brewer! I had a MM which I loved for 0.75L and under. I found for full batches it required too much intervention.
Picked up an Oxo 8 cup and it performs really well from single cup through to 1.2L batches. Nice carafe too.
Nice, I think I want the MM as well, I've never had a premium machine I mean right now the coffee maker we have is decent but I want something really good. I am working overnights right now and I have been stopping at circle k for my coffee but I definitely want to make it at home. But since everyday I will be making the coffee just for myself mostly I am thinking that the MM might be a good choice. What type of coffee do you use if you don't mind?
@@michaelmarquez6133 I buy coffee from the many roasters that operate in my city. The origin and varieties vary.
One word: Bonavita Connoisseur! Great vid. Great collaboration. And congratulations/kudos. Now, if we could just have Morgan running around carrying LH piggyback, the circle would be complete. Also, did I miss something or did the Mochamaster not finish brewing? I’ve seen that happen when it needs a descaling/cleaning. Just an odd observation.
One word: that was actually two words. 😂
I have a Bonavita 1900TS, which replaced my Bonavita 1800. I kept the basket and carafe from the 1800. so I can use either flat or cone filters.
"Messy, messy, messy" a Frosty the Snowman reference to the magician?! I hope so because I was saying messy, messy, messy for that reason and then you said it in the video haha
Yes it is!
any experience with the cafe specialty drip from GE?
Lance stoled the Morgan slide!!! :)
How do you dial these in?
ive never had messy spills with ratio 6 but its certainly not the most elegant of pours
When James reviewed the ratio he didn’t like the top of the brew basket. Even before I watched his vid I didn’t like the stacking. I noticed you didn’t have it on. Does it need to be there ?
have you all ever did a review of the OXO brew? similar setup to these and SCA certified as well :)
Yep! It is a solid brewer! I enjoy it;) I did a mini review of it on my IG about 2 years ago!
@@LanceHedrick ill check it out! Thank you! :)
What is up with all the water left in the reservoir on the Ratio?!
Pretentious as it feels, I've been drinking my coffee out of wine glasses unironically for a few years now; I can't really rule out confirmation bias, but I do believe it enhances taste (for all the same reasons wine glasses facilitate drinking wine)
Not pretentious. Funnels aroma. Thin glass adds a nice textile element. Feels nice. Let's heat off quickly, allowing the nuanced flavors to showcase themselves more rapidly.
@@LanceHedrick Sidama in a Reidel Chard stemless is beyond mindblowing, provided you wait patiently enough for the touchable/drinkable cooldown. Same goes for a Burundi Yandaro that came in a few months ago- the yeast-inoculated tank ferment really shows its attributes aroma-wise in that glass.
Arkansas represent! I'm a UofA grad!
Nice
thanks! hope you enjoyed it
Lance, could you show your grind size for the +45g doses?
It sits around 1200 microns!
Lance! Did you have a makeover? I’ve been watching your other videos for the last month or so. Now I clicked in this one, wondering where is the Lance with Curley hair and pink cheeks 😢 you do look more sophisticated and more convincing as a barista! 😅 your stylist did a good job 😬
How have I never cheered with coffee on glass wines before worrying about burning my little tongy (tonguey?) before?
I'm clearly missing out
you must change everything you know. Now.
Where’s the heat shield on the Ratio 6? It works according to James Hoffman.
Can I make just one 8oz coffee cup with one of these ?
Any reason for not using the heat shield on the Ratio?
We did have b roll. Not sure why it didn't make the final edit
The 3rd one is sweeter, is it also because its cooled down a little bit?
No. This tasting also isn't a one-off. I've tasted these a ton and this is reflective of my experience. I don't ever review anything without at least 1-2 months experience.
Seeing Morgan didn't start with "Hello there" was unsettling
Hi Lance and Morgan!! 👋🏻
Whatsup!!!
Is the Technivorm Moccamaster good at brewing 1/2 pots?
Yes. Get the KGBV Select. I have one and love it. Not complicated but great cup every time.
0:11 reconsidering life choices.
I would have liked to hear your opinion about wilfa svart performance in comparison with these three brewers.
Those are not available in the USA. I moved to Europe after making this video. So acquire and test
@@LanceHedrick looking forward for your review.
Have to say: the basket brewer makes consistent batches and smaller cups.
Quick tip for the cameraman: You should look the peak level for audio regularly. Or wear a freaking headphones to monitor the audio. I wouldn't ask for money for this recording. Cheers.
Was the “messy, messy, messy” in reference to Professor Hinkle from Frosty the Snowman?
Absolutely it was!
@@LanceHedrick I got so excited when I heard it!!! Hahahaha nice!!
What is the "messy messy messy" quote from? I can hear it in my head...it's an animation....
Frosty!
@@LanceHedrick Yes! Thank you!
I promise I am not bitter that the American version of the Breville doesn't have bloom control.
hahah! Yeah. I feel you.
Daddy Hoff had the same issue with the Ratio.. sloppy pouring. 😓 ☕
Is that Justin bieber 😂
What grind size do you recommend for batch brewing?
Is this the video filmed without you wearing any shoes?
One thing I hate about these comparisons (daddy Hoffs too) is the lack of mention of expected longevity of each machine. A moccamaster will probably last decades longer than the breville and parts should be available for that time and they offer a mail in repair service after the warranty ends, breville does not. The ratio, being so new, hasn't had the time for people to see if it will last. We talk about sustainably grown and sourced coffee, but most people ignore the sustainability of the equipment.
Have you owned a breville? Or are you just guessing it won't last long? Mine is 6 years running without an issue. Hoffmanns has had his a longer time, I believe. Ratio is new but sends parts. So, curious about your information regarding those two?
@Lance Hedrick You got me there, I have not owned one based on the sentiments from other people's experiences with other breville products. While six years is good (and it hasn't been out for decades to have examples of extremely long lasting ones, so I don't expect that), breville does not have a track record of providing parts and repairs for decades or even years after your warranty expires. From what I can find, they do not publicly offer any repair service for out of warranty products. Based on this, I do not believe that if someone's precision Brewer broke after a decade, there would be any expectation of assistance from breville to get it going again. I know some people would say a decade is long enough, but I strongly prefer to buy things for life if possible and like to support companies that support that.
As I stated above, the ratio hasn't been out long enough to draw a conclusion on it's longevity, but that's great that they seem to have parts available.
I've had a sage machine for almost 7 years and only had one issue. The water reservoir stopped passing water last year and sage had a replacement out within 4 days. Honestly they were amazing
@@philmeyers9647 happy to hear examples to the contrary of my beliefs! At the end of the day, I just want less disposable products, regardless of the brand.
Hey, just to let you know, Morgan stole your WDT! ;)
Every liquor shelf should have a bottle of McKenna 10 yr 👍🏻
It is a solid bourbon. They used to be plentiful until there was massive hype a few years back
@@LanceHedrick Totally. It was a fantastic buy in the 30's but overpriced now. I still have two remaining that I'll cherish 😆
Pretty soon people are going to say granddaddy Hoff and daddy lance
I could only be so lucky. And honored.
He didn't use the heat shield on the Ratio 6.
