Learn Dutch with street interviews: in this episode of Easy Dutch, Linus is asking people how they're celebrating King's Day in the Netherlands.
__
We recorded this video the day before King’s Day, which was on April 27. The reason for the celebration is the birthday of the Dutch King Willem-Alexander, however, as you might have seen in the video, for a lot of people it’s more about having fun and spending a nice day.
Here a few explanations about the video:
‘t - het
Willem - short version of King Willem-Alexander
Noorderplantsoen - urban public park in Groningen
gezellig (adjective) - it could be translated as fun, social or cozy, depending on the context. We decided to not translate it, since it can not be translated perfectly. If you learn Dutch, this is really an essential word to learn. You will need it! A few examples: Hij/zij is gezellig (he/she is gezellig). Het was gezellig gisteren (it was gezellig yesterday).
gezelligheid (noun) - Just like gezellig, it is also challenging to translate gezelligheid to English. Possible options would be ‘conviviality’, ‘sociability’ or ‘coziness’.
Republican - We can only guess, but most likely the man was not referring to the political party in the USA, but to favoring and supporting a republic.
Koningsmarkt - King’s market. We would recommend googling it and look at some pictures. Basically it is like a very big flea market.

@@easylanguages Egen kanaal?
@@Phynne85 Precies!
start an easy dutch channel, it would be easier to find all the videos in one place.
Why not... :D
Wekelijkse afleveringen!!!! Wat een perfecte leeftijd!!! Ik hou van je Nederlands!!!!
Prima that more Easy Dutch videos are being added. Congratulations to everyone who works to put them on RUclips!!
The video may not make clear that the "rommelmarkt" (flea market) is an important part of the Koningsdag celebrations. There are some people who buy things during the year in order to sell them on Koningsdag. Some people queue from six in the morning in order to get the best bargains. Everyone dressed in orange of course. When I lived in Holland some sixty years ago the children of our district had a procession in the morning, and again in the evening with lanterns. They don't do that any more.
Love Easy Dutch. Wish you guys can make more videos and post them legularly. Not easy to find good Dutch videos on RUclips. Easy Dutch is wonderful 🌞
Thank you! Stay tuned for more! :D
Great! Hope soon Easy Dutch has their own RUclips Channel!
These videos keep getting better every time! Keep it up & thank you SO much! :)
the sound of air get annoying sometimes but otherwise, great job!
That rising at the end of sentences reminds me of Norwegian :D
Dankie vir hierdie video. Ek hoop julle het ‘n groot koningsdag gehad in April. Groete uit Australië
Afrikaans?
Easy Dutch is fantastic! It’s exactly what I’ve needed!
easy dutch!!!
Jullie moeten een Easy Dutch kanaal maken!
Awesome stuff guys!
Amazing videos thanks guys we need you
Hi! I can help you with what the sentence should be. I didn’t really understand the first sentence, but the second one: “De bevolking heeft een groot feest en zo zijn de mensen blij en niet zo kritisch met de functie van de koningsfamilie.”
You did a great job!

Moeilijk he die G
I can't see the similarities between dutch and Germany that people use to say they have......i guess that's because my mother language is from a totally different linguistic group
