Comes because the wheel monkeys put them on with an impact set to all the way, you can see from the way those threads are all messed up from the stretching in there. you going to use an impact put it on 1 for tightening. also get a can of anti spatter spray, it makes those marks on the rim just wipe off, if you apply generously before starting to use the metal puddle maker.
That and if they'd use a little bit of anti-seize on the taper it doesn't gall the taper face like that one is. As it seems in this case, it's usually the taper on the face that keeps it from coming loose, along with the Godzilla torque they seem to think it's required to hold it on.
Well done John, had a neighbour with a similar issue on a Ford, just two of the bolts, I welded a large nut, like ¾ thread inside to the bolt and I got one out but after three attempts on the second one, he said not to bother, when he got home he set about it with a hammer and chisel, after a few minutes it came loose. He's a retired shipwright out of Vickers in Barrow in Furness, never give up attitude rules!!! LOL. I think my welding softened it up and once it had cooled it was easier. You can keep aluminium wheels for me, I stick to good old steel wheels, far more reliable. Imagine having a puncture miles from anywhere, and you can't change the wheel?
I do lots of BMW locking wheel bolts, slightly differently, with a MIG welder still involved. I also do lots of cracks in alloy wheels. I love a pothole!
I'm guessing these were put on with an air gun by a tyre place. I can't imagine what some of these places are thinking of when they do this. First thing I do when I get home after the wheels have been touched by anyone is to slacken the nuts/bolts off and retighten with a torque wrench.
John, I was recently speaking with the head mechanic in my local Toyota dealership who agreed with me they were a pain in the arse as alloy wheels, stealing, in our area is non existent. I’ve taken them off both cars.
John can correct me if I’m wrong but I’m guessing that footage was from the first bolt that he was explaining about at the beginning. Before he came up with the idea to add the washer.
A great solution, but I guess it would be impractical to tow a Lincoln Pipeliner with your BMW just to fix a flat. Maybe have the idiot who mounted the tire in the first place with a rattle gun to properly torque it to spec.
No, he had a wheel come loose one time and after that debacle every nut is tightened until his impact stops turning, trust me, we call them "Roy" tight.

I just paint the wheel around the bolt hole with grease, just brake clean off afterwards

Whoever last puts those bolts in, has obviously never heard of a torque wrench.
That was some serious Abom style torque. 😲
Torque wasn't high. Connection to the impact just wasn't straight and it looks like it was chewing threads

G'day John. Well done with your jig, worked out well. I had to drill the head nut off, then just unscrewed the bolt. Was very lucky then.
Ted
Thanks John I’ll be using that one. Got a use for all them AF sockets now

Nice one John .
Ha ha. "Reynolds T45 tubing, just lying around." As you do.
Another mini miracle by John, guessing an air impact was ysed to tighten them to max.
Great idea on using washer to protect paint.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers John, now I have a plan if I lose my key.

Good work John.
Great video John, keep'um coming...
Thanks John
Nice one ❤
Good idea
Excellent videos John, keep them coming 👍🏻👍🏻
Could have easily prevented all of the splatter damage on the wheel.
Any reason you did not use the arc droid to put holes in the washers?
I don’t understand where the washer went …

I made the tubes to short that is why the washer was not used
well dun the blank is off a pressing for a 4x4 crossmember

Worst lockers have to be Citroen/Peugeot I’d like to meet that tw@ who made them lol
Sadistic grease monkey tight!
