- Police in Danville said they have arrested the suspects that stripped a man of his Rolex at gunpoint Friday. The brazen robbery happened as the man was walking out of the store.

The robbery wouldn’t make the news on its own. The rare and elusive story is that 3 people were actually arrested for something in the Bay Area. They always wrap up every story with the same interview of some local saying this area is usually safe.

I live in a run down house in a not so great neighborhood and don't have anything of value to anyone but me. I still lock the door, even though a kick or shoulder would take care of that. Hopefully the noise would alert me that someone was trying to get in

I'm from Danville, I've never heard of people not locking their doors around here. Perhaps that man was from one of the richer parts. The wealthy are usually dumb about home security because they feel impervious to anything bad happening to them. That's why those kids the movie "The Bling Ring" was about were able to break in to so many celebrity homes.

I used to live in San Ramon. There was crime there too and lots of drugs.
Maybe some places, but I'd say roughly 1 in 10 men open carry a pistol where I live, far more carry a belt knife and or conceal pistol, and many women conceal carry. There's a reason we don't have this kind of crime; rural east coast cities, maybe.

Crime tends to expand, crime is never isolated to a specific area forever. Constantly robbery in zone A will drive people away, and criminals will have to visit zone B to maintain profitability, so don't ever think it's safe because it has been in the past.
