    Welcome to another cozy reading vlog! I am back with another Project Teacup vlog--this is the fantasy novel I've been writing for the past several months. I hope you enjoy this rambling little video--it was a challenging week to be working on the story, but despite the set backs I had, I still made a lot of progress. Hope you enjoy the video 💛

      13:07 Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was rejected by a whopping 120+ publishers. It ended up becoming one of the best selling books of the seventies, and is now considered a classic. They remind me of that record executive who once turned down the Beatles. I hope you find a publisher who's a good fit for you.

      @@XFC856 I think it could be possible, though it is tricky (we're going to be doing sushi making classes, for example). Japan is a really hard place to navigate if you're plant based because even if you get a vegetarian meal that shouldn't have animal products, a lot of the broths are fish-based. If you contact support hi@trovatrip.com they should be able to check with the trip organiser/supplier in Japan if this is possible :)

    Christy, I am a teenager, which means I am over ten years younger than you. I have loved writing stories for as long as I can remember. I have been working on a few short stories and poems this summer that I plan on submitting to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. I am also working on a historical fiction novel with fantasy elements. Your writing style is much like my own and I exceedingly enjoy watching your writing vlogs. I am excited to read your travel memoir, A Year in Tokyo when the paperback version releases. As someone with endeavors to become an author, your videos are incredibly uplifting and you have been a constant support. Even in the arduous days and the failures that come with the process, I always remember my insatiable love for writing. I love you

    writing 300 to 500 words can easily take me hours. But bit by bit, im getting to the end of my short story. I wrote 10 pages and nearly 4 000 words in total. It's the longest work I have done since a very long time.
    Writing vlogs and asmr ambience kept me motivated.

    I know this was just a little throw away line, but you saying it takes thousands of hours to write a book made me so happy 💛 I prefer tracking time instead of wordcount so I know that I'm currently 800 hours into my wip and that's always felt like it's just me being slow and inexperienced rather than it being a 'normal' amount of time. Most of my writer-friends also write a lot faster than me, which doesn't help.
    Thank you for making me feel like I'm not writing at snail-pace 😊 Also the vlog was beautiful as always 💛

    • @christy-anne-jones
      @christy-anne-jones  Год назад +15

      Personally, I hate tracking in words written. Unfortunately, it's often the easiest metric to use for progress, but it absolutely doesn't factor in problem solving, editing, brainstorming, plotting, research or any of the other myriad things that are essential to the writing process. Also words quickly written aren't necessarily good, usable words! It's so much more important that you go about it the right way, not the impatient way (which is something I struggle with hahah). You're doing a great job!! 800 hours is absolutely huge. It takes a lot of time to do something like this, so don't worry; you're doing an excellent job. Best of luck with it!! 💛💛

    i love the framing of creativity as "a resiliency game" and your reminder that not everything about writing is romantic. it's a nice push back against that silly narrative of "if you do what you love then you'll never work a day in your life", like...! that ain't it! there can certainly be the joy and gratitude in pursuing our passions, but it's definitely still legitimate hard work that requires resilience and faith. cuz then on the flip side, i also love the reminder to take a baking break when needed 🥰 sometimes those breaks, stepping away from the creative pursuit to do the other mundane maintenance tasks of life... sometimes that stuff is just as much a part of the creative process, cuz yeah we're still our creative selves thinking or processing or listening to our loud music even when we're not specifically working on the creative project... that section of this video was a really lovely balance of de-romanticizing creative work while also adding some romance to daily mundanity, lovely!

    You're such an inspiration Christy~ So much of what you talk about struggling with as a writer, overlaps with my field.
    As an artist there are some days where no matter how much you want to draw and try to draw, every piece just comes out lackluster. I also feel this can feel especially stressful when you work from home/on your own, because you don't get to hear from other creatives struggling with the same thing (even though its totally normal!).
    So thank you for being honest and sharing your struggles with us! I think its an important thing to share! It was so nice to hear you being kind to yourself after having a less than productive day.

    Hi Christy. I hope this hasn't been asked and answered before. I wondered if you send your books to a professional editor before you start querying. Also, I'm so glad to hear that it takes Donna Tartt years to write her books. I've been working on one for 2 or 3 years, which is painfully slow, but it isn't 10 years! Not yet at least. I just keep telling myself that as long I continue to make progress in one form or another, it's ok. Thanks for your videos. Love watching them!

    • @christy-anne-jones
      @christy-anne-jones  Год назад

      Nah, from what I've seen, I don't think it's a good idea to send your book to an editor before querying because even if you do, if you get picked up by an agent, they might ask you to make a bunch of edits that contradict the edits you just spent thousands of dollars paying for, and then the publishing house will probably also ask for edits anyway. And there are several different types of editors you need, structural editors, copy editors, proof readers, etc. One of the big benefits of being traditionally published is that the publishing house pays for that stuff.
      You COULD consider paying for a manuscript assessment (which is when you send your manuscript to a writers' centre, and they give you feedback generally but don't edit). I'm not sure where you're based, but WritersSA (South Australia) does this: writerssa.org.au/services/manuscript-assessment/ Personally, I don't think I'd go down this route but manuscript assessments can be a wonderful way to get formalised feedback, if that's something you really want BEFORE querying. Absolutely up to you and how you want to invest in your novel. Best of luck with writing! 💛😄

    I have to ask... what do you do for a living? Besides, writing, what do you do as a profession as a steady job, a "day job" so to speak.

    Why don’t you self publish? I read a lot of indi authors and their books are amazing you should really consider it if you don’t get picked up again.

    12:42 i'd sell my kidney for a vlog after the publishing process where you'd list all these moments and link to the parts of the book that you were writing like, today you're feeling stressfull because of this this and that and that was the day that you wrote that scene, that you wrote that plot, you know?? id love to know what you were feeling when you were writing big moments of the novel

    It's so weird to count the words all the time... Isn't it?? Why does it matter? You're telling a story and there's a flow.... Why does it matter how many words you write?

    • @christy-anne-jones
      @christy-anne-jones  Год назад +3

      It can take years to write a novel, and the process can be really challenging. There are some days that the words come easily, and other days when you need to push through. For the days (or weeks) where I need to push through because it's difficult, I need to understand how much progress is a realistic amount to aim for each day. Understanding words count is essential to that, or at least it is for me, at this point in the drafting process😊 (but we're all different. I'm sure plenty of people don't focus on words at all!)

    I wonder why Stephen King drink tea instead of coffee. The brain gets less oxygen because of the caffeine and thus your creativity is not optimal.
