You seem determined, thoughtful, constructive, kind, structured, self-sufficient, creative, aesthetically clear, and disciplined - to me, it just feels obvious that the world is going to read your novels. It made me smile to see you get a reputable agent, and I thought: well, duh. A few times in my life, I've had a quiet gut feeling (usually about people I saw in film). Like, when I first saw the back then mostly unknown Eddie Redmayne in "Savage Grace", I was just so captivated by his... vibe? I felt that he'd go far and beyond, establish his place in the industry, if he was willig to go there. Still, I'd been amazed when it actually started to happen to the max. I was so proud of him. Anyhow, enough of this random comment about gut feelings, hope it didn't weird you out too much, aha. I sincerely wish you all the energy, joy, and luck on your way! 🌼
Major respect on putting your foot down on the agent who wanted the romance subplot. I guarantee they only wanted to include it for the sake of marketing your book as "Romantasy", which is the "big genre" in American publishing right now. And any agent who would want to Frankenstin your book to feed the latest trends would not be a good agent in the long run. Good luck on the next steps in your publishing journey and hope to see your book on shelves soon 💜
I just want to thank you for being such an inspiration to me. Im 14 and have just hit 25 000 words in the first draft of a book I'm writing and I don't think I would have started writing this book if I had not seen your videos.
I love romance, which is why making someone shoehorn one in is doing such a diservice to the genre. Not to mention adding a superfluous arc to your very carefully crafted and balanced story. Well done again on achieving your literary agent milestone, I've comfort watched that video 3x already ✨
Christy I swear your videos are some of the only ones I can actually watch all the way through and be so thoroughly engaged!! I am happy to be a patreon supporter and will continue! I truly believe in your talent and just you as a person! I feel you on the romance stuff. No dig to romance plot lines but every story doesn’t need it and just because you’re a woman doesn’t mean that’s automatically included. I get ppl love the idea of slow burning tension lol but when appropriate. If your story did not have that originally, then I think it was a wise decision to keep it out. I’m so looking forward to getting your book!!! ❤️
literally one of the kindest youtubers i know... that was so nice of you to say how you feel someone else who might not have an agent yet would feel like, and sending good luck. I wish you all the best. I'm so excited to read project tea cup...and of course to know the title of the book hehe
16:30 I totally get what you mean about the empathy. Happiness for yourself and sadness/empathy for others can be bittersweet but please be proud of the work you have done! There is nothing wrong with that 💖
This sort of thing is common in other areas too. "Survivors guilt" when posting in an illness group that one is in remission, or announcing that one is pregnant after years of trying, knowing that others are still trying too. But it's ok to share our good news.
It’s so great to see an author from South Australia have success in getting an international agent in recent times, that answers my unspoken question of whether it’s even possible for a smallish town Australian writer like me to possibly achieve that some day
Thank you for that hug to all the querying writers... It's so weird to be so happy for you but at the same time feel this twinge of jealousy. But I'm being kind to myself and telling myself that it's normal. Congratulations once again, big hug and hoping to have your book on my shelves one day!
I normally dont comment on your Videos, i am not a writer, not really, i am a philosophy Student and currently working on a Magazine... I Just wanted to say, thay you give me so much Motivation, calmness and Made me believe in myself an that Putting in the Work is worth it. Thankyou! And congratulations on the Agent of course! Greetings from Germany:)
the more you talk about teacup the more i want to read it. im torn about writing a love story into my novel, one the one hand- it sells on the other hand- giving voice to other possibilities seems so much more interesting!
I watch Jack Edward’s channel too and I was thinking to myself while he talked about the Women’s Awards a while ago that allll of those long listed books are about divorce or some kind of tragedy that is specific to women. It highlighted for the first time for me that most books by women are about love and all the different variables of it, and I couldnt help but roll my eyes, which is surprising because I definitely do adore some love-oriented books with female protagonists, my bookshelf holds a number of them! But I guess the market is seriously lacking in female main characters who do literally anything else. I’m excited for project teacup and I hope it’ll scratch a certain itch that I think a lot of women are feeling.
Did the agents know you have a channel or did you leave that out? Can't wait to see how long this second hurdle takes, I can't believe I'll also have to do it.
Loved the video as always! Your videos are what I listen to while I'm writing,I don't know if anyone has ever told you this but you have a very soothing voice! I hope Project Teacup gets published because I'd love to see your writing style and how different it is compared to mine!
So happy you're standing your ground with the romance plot! Although, I do love a good romance plot - if it's not part of the story, it's just not part of the story (No matter the gender of the author) 🙌🏻
While watching the video i kept thinking what will happened to project spiegeltent but when i got to th Q&A i got my answer. Again i'm so happy for you that ypu got an agent and i hope some day will see project tea cup finally in bookshops.
Thank you so much for answering my question! I absolutely love to see your writing journey as my dream is to be a writer as well one day! Good luck with draft 6
So cool you got Loop as a sponsor! I’ve been using their Quiet version but think I want to try Engage. I don’t want to become too dependent on them, but yeah for noisy places they are greart. Congrats on the agent btw!
🎉 ahh im so happy for you! I know i said that before but its so lovely seeing all the hardwork you have put in and will continue to put in, getting some results for you ❤
It's always a good day when Christy uploads. Good luck with draft 6! (I'll forgive you for wearing that NY Yankees cap though, jk) Hope everyone has a blessed day!
I've been watching your videos and they inspire me so much, thank you making them! And i realllyy love your book recomendations a lot! Lovely greetings from İstanbul (or Constantinople)
Congratulations again on your agent and best of luck with Draft 6 of Project Teacup! I’m going to query sometime this year and I’m a little nervous, but I’ve queried before, so I know what to expect. Excited for your updates! Adelaide looks beautiful, btw! 💜
Loved this video!! Thanks for the update, I’m so excited for you and the next phase of your writing journey!! ☁️ Best of luck for draft 6 of project teacup!! ☕️💛
So excited for you! As an aspiring author, would love to know if the agents you spoke with addressed if it is necessary for someone who wants to pursue traditional publishing to have a large social media following in advance?
I'm glad someone thought to ask about the questions you asked because I was wondering too. I was also wondering - how does it feel (I guess?) having submitted what you think is the "best" version of a project to then get a bunch of edits back? I guess I'm wondering whether the reaction is "I can't believe I didn't see that" or "that's an edit only someone experienced could offer" because obviously you'd have had multiple people reading the manuscript before you sent it off. (like, you think it's the very best, most polished it could possibly be and then someone suggests an edit - it must be weird?)
It's so inspiring seeing you go on this journey and I can't wait to see what 2024 has in store for you! I'm starting the year out with querying my passion project and I didn't expect this weird feeling of ... suddenly not directly working on it anymore? This anxiety is THE worst omg
I have been checking your channel daily for this update lol your content is so inspiring and relaxing to watch. I’m so happy for you, and i can’t wait to see what 2024 brings you
So exciting! And congrats on climbing the mountain! I love walking before writing too. I've been debating about querying, mainly because I have so many different genres going at the moment. I think my Regency Mystery could be queried but not sure I have the energy to wait for that. Lol
It has basically none! Our literary festivals don't invite fantasy authors, our creative writing lecturers at universities are snobby about fantasy (or at least, basically all of mine were 😅), our 'speculative fiction' competitions only give awards to literary pieces with the vaguest magical realism elements, our writers residencies often stipulate that ONLY literary fiction authors can apply… It is tiring. Especially as literary fiction makes up such a small % of sales in Australia compared to genre fiction
@@christy-anne-jonestotally agree. Each year I look forward the Adelaide writers week lineup, there are more and more journalists and politicians added and NEVER any fantasy. Sadly I won’t be going this year.
@@christy-anne-jones Basically I've always had a vague distaste for "Australian literature" (I'm Australian) and didn't understand why, but I think it's that lack of support for anything a bit more out of the box. Anyway I'm studying writing at uni and the focus is definitely on lit fic, but I have my first genre fic class this semester so I'm excited to write more of what I like to read.
hi Christy! in my home country (Nigeria) the traditional publishing path is not that clear, and i'm not sure i want to self-publish. but you mentioned that you got an agent outside Australia, does that mean you can get an agent outside your country without actually meeting them in person? how will meetings go as such? how will you get your final copy of the book if you're not in the country where it's published? thanks
Absolutely! I got my agent without meeting her in person. We had all our meetings over Zoom. So you could do the same thing: submit to agents in the UK and US, while living elsewhere. Regarding WHERE the book is published: what would happen is that the agent will sell first to their own region (Bailey is from the US, so she'll try to get a book deal for the US first). And then once that's done, they try to sell to other regions. I'm not sure which category Nigeria falls into. Australia is under Commonwealth rights (I think). So there needs to be an additional deal made for that. However, if the book sells in the US but not the Commonwealth regions, I kind of have to be at peace with that. That's not something I have much control over. (You could always order a copy of your book FROM the US though, if that happened)
I don't like how agents want romance in certain genres , but I think it's the editors telling them it's easier to sell it to them with a romance. It's weird how that preference runs into genres other than romance. And YA as an age category, I've heard needs a romance subplot
hi christy, your videos are actually helpful to me, just subscribed your channel. just wondering who edit your videos, is it you or some editor if you need a video editor i would love to work with you, just let me know ill share portfolio
While your work is likely very outstanding, I'm curious if you mentioned your RUclips channel when you queried? I wonder if your big following helped elevate your work. Again, not downplaying your writing but sometimes agents want to see that you have a following.

I was wondering that, too. Because if they saw it, they'd know how hard you work and generally what a good bet you are.
I'm guessing it factored into the marketability of her book. They definitely know.

Love the loops, too. I have three pair of them. Two pair for concerts and work (one in exchange). And the other pair is for sleeping (loop quiet +).
You totally deserve what you got, Christy
While watching the video i kept thinking what will happened to project spiegeltent but when i got to th Q&A i got my answer.

Alexa Donne is such a good resource! I found Save the Cat thanks to her, and her word count guide is amazing.
I miss Adelaide so much! It was so lovely to see lofty 🥹

We're so proud of you, you are utterly deserving of this after so many years of hard work and effort ❤️
Heartwarming cup of tea ready ❤!!

i'm so very proud of you! 🥰
Just graved a coffee! Perfect timing 😊
When you told us about the romance storyline, the first image in my had was accually that Greta Gerwig's scene!
I enjoyed this video a lot but my favourite bit was the handbrake 😂😂😂
I like your channel, something making youtube interesting.
I've been waiting since morning
😊💛💛
Yay! New video! And I'm early. ✨️🌸
I’m so excited but I have a question! When will we get to know the title? 🙃
if I'm lucky enough to get a publishing deal then it would be as soon as I know for sure the publisher doesn't want to change it 💛
yaaay new video 🫂
Welcome to Morocco ❤🇲🇦
How many agents should you query before giving up on particular story.
On average how many agents to query?
Omg I did not realise Australia in general doesn't have much support for spec fic. That makes so much sense now.
It has basically none! The idea of going in an editing threads throughout a story seems so intimidating. Will you talk more on that maybe when you are done with draft 6?
Realmente, 😮 arranjar um agente literário é o mais difícil, depois de escrever a obra 😊
Have you done a video about your desk setup?
In this video, from around 1:43-ish ruclips.net/video/dwWO63cuH80/видео.html 😊
Soul infusion. Amazing and very rare.
Is there a specific amount of drafts you do before you consider it ready to be published?
I'm here!

Hello there hey there hey
Could you from your kindness and courtesy share with me some agents contacts or links as I am an author too ? Thank you Christy.
