First off, congrats on finishing your dialog draft, that’s so exciting! I had never heard of one before you, but it sounds super interesting. Writing on,y the dialog, who said it and how, and maybe a few sentences of scene description in between sounds like a fantastic way to not get bogged down in excessive detail and just get to the core of a story. I’m editing my mystery/thriller novel right now, using a truly impressive amount of color-coded index cards, post-its, and page flags, lol. I put them all on a tri fold poster board instead of on the wall or floor because seeing it 24/7 will make me want to work on it all the time, which isn’t great for me. This way, I fold it away and so I literally can’t work on it until I open it again. That, plus only doing it for like three or four thirty-minute sprints at a time before a longer break has really helped me not get burnt out. I’m actually excited to edit, which has never happened. Your dialog draft is totally a draft! Every draft of a story improves it, there’s no ‘oh, it’s just a [insert type of draft]’. I also have a hard time with blurbs. I am so long winded in general, plus I just get so excited about the story I end up including major spoilers when I try to write one. I have to learn to majorly pare back and be mysterious, lol. When you do 0 drafts do you do mostly dialogue and action tags(barely description or introspection)? I feel like that's my strategy.
yes! sometimes I will insert a description if it comes to me vividly, but a lot of the time it's super bare bones
