  • DIY Workbench build on rolling casters. DIY How to build a strong & solid workbench, but keeping it fairly simple to build. This woodworking work bench is the focal point of your workshop. This bench is made of glued up standard 2 x 4 lumber for the frame. The Lap joints make for a very strong and sturdy frame. They're also glued and screwed. My top was a reclaimed Oak Table from Habitat for Humanity. It's mobile, very strong, not overly large. I've made it to allow for a tail or end vise which I've completed along with adding rows of bench dog holes.
Cherry wood plugs are added just cause they look good! And I don't like the look of raw Oak so used a tinted Danish Oil in Walnut for the top and shelf. Shop furniture doesn't have to be ugly. If you prefer a face vise, you'll need to alter the top to accommodate one. I have a second bench with a face vise already, so don't plan on adding an additional one.
    1 YEAR UPDATE:
This workbench has been excellent! Only a couple issues. 1. It's not that heavy so when planing it can slide, I've added rubber to the bottom which has helped a lot. 2. The wheels are a bit cumbersome, but when you get the hang of them, they work well! 3. People want to use it as a kitchen island!

I built a similar workbench, but afterwards I put the casters inside because they always got in the way when I had to walk around and bumped into them.

That’s a great point. I did consider that and they are an obstruction that took me awhile to get used to. Eventually this bench will end up in my garage so I kept the design. The casters really are handy, thanks for commenting

Do you have build plans for the workbench? It looks like the size I want and I also picked up a butcher block the also appears about same size...

Sorry I don’t, I roughed it out on paper, then kinda winged it. No real plan. 😊 The location of the lap joints did get confusing.

Love the look, design and functionality of this workbench. I have the same jobsite DeWalt table saw as you and I love it. Do you have any dimensional plans for this bench? Thank you for your time and effort in providing us with excellent quality videos. Happy New Year.

The workbench looks great. The choices of wood species and finishes make for a nice contrast in colors.
