Giants were selling out every game for a couple decades and by n large it was legit. The problem now besides a bad gm and crappy team is no one wants to go into San Francisco because of crime, junkies, lack of restaurants and businesses, etc. SF has tanked since the lockdowns
The two biggest factors in the Giants decline in attendance are both pandemic related. One is the huge number of folks in the Bay Area [not just in SF, but the bubble around it] retired during the pandemic, sold their homes for a massive profit and moved out of state. This included a lot of longtime season ticket holders who were diehard fans. The other is just the sheer amount of companies that switched to remote work and abandoned their downtown office space. Many of these companies would give out tickets for their employees to have something to do after work. I could give a crap about the latter because they would show up to hang out and could care less about baseball. It has a lot less to do with the on field product, Farhan and homeless people than people try to claim.
The astronomical cost of living increases in the past 3 years is one reason why there's a decrease nationwide. Who has the cash to go to these games on a regular basis?
The Braves had a higher attendance than last season but they had two rain outs and also had one 12 pm game. Even with that, they are third in attendance per game average. Braves will probably finish second in attendance and pass the Yankees. They would possibly have the highest attendance, but Truist Park holds nowhere what LA stadium holds.
Cubs fan here. I've had 3 season ticket holders tell me they canceled because of the current economy. 2 of the 3 told me it wasn't in the budget this year. I wonder if this will become a issue with other teams?
That’s cause baseball is so boring. on Average, NFL games last around 30 - 40 minutes longer and the have no attendance problems. Believe it or not, the nfl average viewer rate has gone up since ticktock was made
I'm from St. Louis. In Mid July, there is hardly any nice weather there. UGH! The humidity is off the charts. They should have built a retractable dome.
You are absolutely right about the White Sox. They are rapidly becoming the next A's, and they deserve to be similarly shunned. I would bet my life savings on the attendance numbers tanking further this year. Horrible team, horrible owner, horrible manager, mediocre stadium in the bad side of town, the loss of Jason Benetti. I know I won't be going to any Sox games this year. Probably drive up to Milwaukee and hopefully check out at least one or two other stadiums in the Midwest this year instead.
Have not been out to a game since 2018. Got tired of the rude fans and people in general. Tired of the higher ticket prices, and now don’t really like the DH. Would have preferred they did something a bit different to keep the NL style of play. Used to be a season ticket holder and dropped them in 17.
The 2023 numbers don't match ESPN's final attendance numbers, are these supposed to be an apple to apples comparison? i.e. 2023 through 12-14 games vs 2024 through 12-14 games?
Is there a better outfield district / wall / bullpen configuration than Rogers Centre? I don't think so. I'd rather be in that Outfield District than anywhere else in the ballpark, maybe with the exception of the three new clubs that will be completed around the infield.
Cleveland has had pretty bad weather the first couple of games. We’ve had a good start but idk how well we’re gonna do against better teams. If we continue like this, Cleveland’s attendance is probably going to be like it was last year. And we’ve only had 3 home games, one was canceled due to heavy rain.
Back in the day, baseball started in mid April. Now it starts in late March. Maybe if they went back to opening in mid April, weather wouldn't be such a big factor as it is now. But with the modern day expanded playoffs, that's not going to happen of course.
White Sox have been terrible. Only 2 wins so far. And yet they are beating Cleveland and KC in attendance despite the fact that the Guardians and Royals are playing well. Who really should relocate?
Don't count on Baltimore seeing a huge lift. They absolutely dominated the AL east last year and still only averaged 22.7k. sure they may sell out a few games, but those mid week games that draw 12-18k is really going to impact average attendance big time for time.
@@Daniel.Salvatierra I can see that happening. Actually the mid April start of the season goes back to before expansion when the season was 154 games and the 2, 8 team leagues (it went to 162 games in 1961 for the AL and 1962 for the NL when they went to 10 teams each, it was already 162 games in 1969 when they went to divisions, they simply went to an unbalanced schedule then and had to tweak it in order to make it balanced by cutting back on the number of games against teams in the same division)
