Back in the sixties when the motown stars came to London they were considered posh... We dressed up in our best suit to go see them. They weren't considered your average entertainers they were way beyond that. Closest thing we got to American royalty....

As an elementary school kid in the 60s I didn't understand these songs in an adult way though I can still sing the lyrics from memory 50 years later. Those Motown songs pervaded the old neighborhoods before the neighborhood lost its collective mind. Weekends and summers were glorious before gangs and drugs destroyed things.

Yeah..... "Ain't That Peculiar". Mosogotam passed on a ton of great music. A lyric like "I know flowers grow from rain, but how can love grow from pain? " sure does mean more to me at 62 than 7 years old, and I remember it from an AM radio.

David Rose Marie......Mmm - yes, Mr Gaye was an amazing multi-talented artiste and an exceptional [if reluctant] singer.....but the 'greatest'? A greater vocalist than Levi Stubbs?
And aren't you forgetting the singer that single-handedly made Berry Gordy [and Motown] the powerhouse producer and record company they became. I'm speaking of course, of the TRUE 'greatest singer' ever - Jackie Wilson.
As Berry Gordy famously said of the late and [very great] Mr Wilson - 'He was so good, he could sing anything'. A more fitting tribute you will never hear.

Classic!!! MARVIN GAYE WAS ONE OF THE MOST HANDSOME, TALENTED ARTISTS EVER TO THE VOCALIZE LYRICS. I met him once at "THE WHITE HALL HOTEL, DOWNTOWN HOUSTON, TX. I ALMOST CRIED WHEN I LOOKED UP INTO HIS FACE; I'M QUITE SHORT. BY THE WAY, MY THIRD SON'S NAME IS MARVIN; SO WAS HIS Father's!!! INCREDIBLE TALENT.😂😙😍😙😚😎😎

I felt the same way when I came face to face with Whitney Houston in a shopping mall in New Jersey. I know Marvin was great with Tammy Terrell, but could you image Marvin collaborating with Whitney?

No one in THIS day and age has literally seen Jesus Christ!!! HOWEVER, those who had the opportunity to see & FOLLOW him WERE privileged to write about how we could see him. By taking in knowledge of him and his Father. ❤❤❤ John 17:3; PS. 83:18: Isa.12:2; 26:4; Ex.6:3 K.J. jw.org

Marvin Gaye was so superb its unfair to compare 95% pct of the other singers to him, it would have to be someone like the immortal Aretha Franklin to measure up to him....In a word he was UNREAL

I love Marvin, and proud to be from the same city (D.C.) , but to me Sam Cooke is this greatest. But that's just opinion right?

Who remembers the motor / Motown review downtown at the Fox.
When you could see all the stars together singing dancing, and having a good ass time.
And not one person got hurt!! Damn I miss those good times
