Barry Gordy, Funk Brothers, and all of the Mowtown stable of artist....The greatest to come out of Detroit Michigan.....Stretching the songs, only makes it better.
Your mixes are amazing ,to hear Earl van Dykes key board genius then The Detroit symphony orchestra .Followed by The tortured genius that was the late Marvin Gaye. Thanks a million 👍🇬🇧.London Paul.
David Rose Marie......Mmm - yes, Mr Gaye was an amazing multi-talented artiste and an exceptional [if reluctant] singer.....but the 'greatest'? A greater vocalist than Levi Stubbs? And aren't you forgetting the singer that single-handedly made Berry Gordy [and Motown] the powerhouse producer and record company they became. I'm speaking of course, of the TRUE 'greatest singer' ever - Jackie Wilson. As Berry Gordy famously said of the late and [very great] Mr Wilson - 'He was so good, he could sing anything'. A more fitting tribute you will never hear.
Back in the sixties when the motown stars came to London they were considered posh... We dressed up in our best suit to go see them. They weren't considered your average entertainers they were way beyond that. Closest thing we got to American royalty....
I was at work when it was announced that Marvin Gaye had been shot and killed by his father. I was depressed the rest of that day with grief. I remember this song, Ain't That Peculiar. And another great song, Can I Get A Witness. RIP Marvin. You were one of a kind. Smooth as silk.
At 75 years age these stunning remixes remind me why my generation fell in love with Tamla Motown. To take these classic numbers apart to reveal the majesty of the Funk Brothers in their pomp is a wonderful tribute to these great musicians and singers. Awesome!
Barry you are so right The Funk Brothers, an ever changing group of musicians, are so responsible for Motown’s success. Unsung deeply. They created the sound backing our favorite singers, from Smokey and all.
The Peculiar happening Marvin Gaye landed in our lifetime A peculiar happening yes parents gave birth to a magnificent Talent like him thank you to the Gaye family you blessed us with a magnificent singer like Marvin Gaye we still love you thank you so much God bless you
As an elementary school kid in the 60s I didn't understand these songs in an adult way though I can still sing the lyrics from memory 50 years later. Those Motown songs pervaded the old neighborhoods before the neighborhood lost its collective mind. Weekends and summers were glorious before gangs and drugs destroyed things.
Yeah..... "Ain't That Peculiar". Mosogotam passed on a ton of great music. A lyric like "I know flowers grow from rain, but how can love grow from pain? " sure does mean more to me at 62 than 7 years old, and I remember it from an AM radio.

So much HOPE in the music. Feel like me and my brother are rollin down Flatbush Ave with my grandpa in the olive green Plymouth Fury heading for a Saturday in the city. If we behave it’s a night game at Shea Stadium with the mighty Yankees. Sweet emotion
What a fabulous time to grow up in . I was born in 1950 and arriving in the sixties as a young teen we were treated to the most fabulous music. I wonder if teens now will be listening to such relevant and still exciting music in 60 years time!!
When Smokey wrote this all he gave it to Marvin and said do something with this when he heard what Marvin did to it he couldn't believe it he just said Marvin made it in his own special way Marvin Gaye the greatest of all time

One of the best. Remember this from fine days in JHS.
It's terribly bittersweet how this kind of music is gone and most of the musicians who created it, are gone with it. It truly is peculiar.

I couldn’t agree more that’s this type of music is gone and maybe the artist too But this music will live forever
