There’s this level on World of Light where you fight a team of jigglypuffs. All they did was that they all huddled around you, instantly put you to sleep, repeat.

Oh yeah, I did that level. Of course, I also had the sleep immunity support spirits. Support spirits help a loooot.
Metal Face trivializes like 90% of spirit battles. Couple it with a good support and World of Light is a complete cakewalk.
Oh...yeah. That one was horrible. I hadn't unlocked many characters I was good with then, so I just had to spam up b with kirby to try and keep them away XD

@Leivve The CPU are pretty biased in ultimate. Just play a 4v4 team smash with all cpus and set the match rules to like 10 stock or something. By the end, you will see that your teammates will have barely lost stocks because everyone in the opposing team will target YOU
@@Navman_ it was even worse in brawl, they would focus the human player so hard and ignore other CPUs it just made no sense to play free for all.
I don't have such a problem in ultimate, I don't play 10 stock matches tho.

Real talk: Ultimate's level 7/8 CPUs are like Brawl's level 16 CPUs (the highest possible with Gecko Code IIRC) which is incredible how far we've come.
Level 9s in Ultimate are so good it feel almost surreal.
I have more trouble with brawl level 9 cpus than ultimate level 9's
They literally just input read and respond appropriately. That's how most fighting game ai is so good at the high difficulties

Unlike smash 4, this game's ai is actually challenging.
I noticed that already. This also counts towards Amiibo as well, even exceeding the Lv 9 again . They are now insane when trained properly. I have to 2vs1 to win against my female Mii-Swordfighter (remember bottom Tier!! ) and even then she bodies us 2-3 Stocks of 5. I get 5 stocked 1v1

It's a good strategy although it's bad to receive the stuff from the offense. If you're invincible, you go on the offense and forget the defense. CPUs can be brutal and merciless. Lol.

Jigglypuff's AI scares me because if you are sent flying and Jiggs is below you it will follow your landing like a homing missile.
I've been Up-Air'd to Rest and I've been RESTED trying to shield grab several times already because of the 1 frame reaction. It's insane.
It reminds me of that scene in the Hannibal series where Will meets Hannibal in prison, and when he walks left Hannibal does it almost at the exact same time.
Replace Snake's Nikita missles to a Jigglypuff missles,top-tier instantly.

Toughest A.I in this game I would say are Pokemon Trainer, Zero Suit Samus and Cloud.
Imo, i think Chrom, Palutena, Roy, Wolf, Snake, and Ganondorf are the toughest motherfuckers in AI mode

From what I’ve heard, apparently Amsa and Ranai helped code the AI in Smash Ultimate? Which, if that’s true, it explains a lot
Idk what exactly they did for the development but I'm pretty sure they had to sign a contract saying they wouldnt compete for 1 year in ultimate.

We're not sure if they helped with the actual coding. They're listed under "Testing and Quality Assurance" in the game credits though, so they definetly had some input in the game.
@Cel I believe that's just a rumor. Apparently, Amsa said he won't be competing for a while, and people took it as "oh it must be 'cause he helped with development". Or at least that's what I'm aware of.

I cruised through most of it until the last 10 or so. Lucas killed me twice and Mewtwo took 4 tries because either he spikes me or combos me into up smash

I found it weird how, even in the new SSB game, some of the CPU range from pushover to mind readers. Especially when you're unlocking them for the first time

Pre-patch AI unlocked ranged from "we start by self-destructing" to "Teching fully charged smash attacks at 999%" and there was no in between.

1 vs 1 aren't so bad but 1 vs 3 and you basically got to play almost perfect. This is lvl 9 ofc.
The worst thing's still seeing how you always win at the beginning and then suddenly go zero to death for no reason, that's just absurd how CPU's level grew up

I wouldn't consider b reverses to be a sign of AI competency, after fighting Fox AI for a while it started happening that every laser he fired in midair was b reversed. I've also seen them do really quick dash dancing, and both of those are things I noticed in Smash 4.
I'm not sure whether they're better or if it's just that most people aren't used to the better 3DS AI from 4, and from my perspective I'm having a hard time getting used to Joycons again, but they will actually punish Rest properly in this game, while Wii U AI will just jump around. Not sure about 3DS, I didn't play Jiggs much at all.
Edit: they also use Rest, that one's major.
I remember beating the CPUs within 24 hours of the game's release (so before the patch) and I just had to keep cheesing them in any possible way with the most brain-dead characters I had at the time.
Now I want to see some mods that challenge players to fully embrace a.i. learning custom cpus vs humans hahaha. No limitations, no whining, just good old fashioned trying to beat a frame perfect god who slowly learns to counter human cheese. What comes next? So on.

Something similar happened to me as well, was playing someone I was sort of unfamiliar with and I fought Zero Suit Samus...I don't even think I did over 20% damage. I questioned why I play the game after getting destroyed like that.

To be fair, some CPU's had some help with items...
You missed the key words. They’re high level smash players. (Pros, elite, veterans) They items was part of the game rule. The players could have just as easily gotten the items dropped in the map.

This happened to me once in Ultimate.
Was playing infront my family, and had just recently 3 stocked a lv.9 Pokemon Trainer. Man, getting 0 to death by Ice Climbers isn't really fun.
I was getting my butt kicked by Challenger Approaching Ike, and suddenly he did an Aether recovery, and when he landed he clipped through the colosseum floor and died. It was pretty freaking funny!

These stronger NPC's really pushed me to get better at the game, I kinda like it in hindsight. In the beginning it was frustrating for a casual player like me to get my ass kicked, but it felt so good when I practised and got better so I could finally unlock them.

At 2:04 I love how that Jigglypuff owned him after he taunted.
People have to remember that for the first time with Smash Wii U/3DS that Sakurai had more opportunity to patch and refine the character balance and the AI, so therefore, he had a really refined template to enhance and advance the strategies further in Smash Ultimate. You could really tell the intelligence of the AI has come a long way because of development resources being the most accomodating in history for him. So many testers, so many co-development studios helping out, it's amazing how far he has come with refining the mechanics. Given also the Switch was practically the easiest console for him to develop for as well, possibly the easiest in history for the company for making their own games, he had more opportune time to truly master the mechanics and balance. And now the update system for Switch is even easier, he could easily update the game further to master refinements ha.
This reminds me of how some of the events in melee are just stupid hard for no reason, even the damn target tests are rage inducing
