Awwww! Can never get enough of watching this beautiful movie over and over again. My cousins and my siblings were the same ages as the children when the movie first came out and we would act out scenes, entertaining and singing for our parents, grand parents, aunts and uncles. This movie is very close to our hearts.
. Never tire of this film! the music score actors. Altho I ve read it s portrayal was not accurate to the real story behind the film. I still think at the time it was sort of ground breaking for all the reasons people say they loved this film. R. I. P. all the actors who have passed who acted in this great Musical of it s time!.
I heard that Christopher Plummer called this movie "The Sound of Mucus". Terrible attitude because I loved his character. Maybe, he should've stuck to playing that Klingon in "Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country" (dead).
I was born in 2000, and I’m so lucky that my parents kept the DVD for me to watch at age 5-6 because it remains a vital part of my childhood. I’m so glad Julie didn’t end up turning down the role, I really can’t imagine anyone else playing Maria
my grandma treated Eleanor Parker (The Baroness) before she passed away in 2013 in December in Palm Springs, California. she was such a sweet lady !!! 💛💛💛
The Sound Of Music is my all time favourite movie. I was 7 years old when it was released in 1965 and remember going with Mum and Dad to see it at The Cinema. I now have The Sound Of Music on DVD and can watch it anytime I like.
@Judas_X It was sooooo much freer than life today - I was born in the fifties but had my childhood in the sixties. We used to spend hours on end unsupervised in town or countryside, going miles from home without any interference from parents. Traffic was very light and everything was glamorous compared to nowadays. People dressed up to go to the capital (my mother wore a hat) and everyone saw the same things on TV because there were only about 2 channels and so we'd all be on the same page, so to speak. Could go on...

It’s just like going to see a play in live theater. This was very popular in the 60s for big production movies such as West Side Story, Lawrence of Arabia, Cleopatra, Doctor Zhivago etc. People may not know about this these days because they stopped that long ago.
I also remember seeing this in 1965 at age 11. We were lucky though, went to the theater on a Saturday evening showing and there just happened to be two seats in the front orchestra. I remember buying a souvenir program book for $1.00 and I still have it.
I was 25 when Charmaine Carr came to the opening of the film The Sound of Music at the Gaumont cinema in Manchester …..I presented her with flowers and spent some time with her alone….she was very nice but of course she was well Older than 16. …I still have the photograph of us….unfortunately she is no longer with us …The Sound Of Music was shown for two years at the Gaumont Manchester…..Now most of those beautiful cinemas have been pulled down …ITS VERY SAD AND NO LONGER THE NICE WORLD I USED TO LIVE IN….
I can remember her visit being written about in the Manhester Evening News and on Granada/ITV News. There was also a story I recall about a lady who saw every screening at the Gaumont, she became so familiar to the staff that they arranged for her to get a free pass. Some staff claimed she was there more than them. I haven't lived in the UK for 48 years, It was a shock when I tried to find the Gaumont several years ago and learned it no longer existed. The last movie I think I saw at the Gaumont was Hello Dolly!
I love the sound of music...my mom was from Austria and I was so lucky to visit their many times thru my early life...I still watch the blu ray I have and sing the songs like a little girl...Adelvise of course is my favorite as it is Austria's song...

I went on the Sound of Music tour in Austria with my mother in law who is also related to the Von Trapp family. Actually most of the Austrians didn't know much about this movie and most of it was not filmed there . I like the movie but do fast forward most of the singing.... but being in the church where the wedding took place was a highlight. Austria is also beautiful 😊

Yes but the german film from 1956 was more to the true story of the family. Not so much romantic, fantasy or funny. Infact quite a boring film in comparison to the famous version with Julue Andrews. The Austrians have never shown the Julie Andrews version till this day so the people don't really understand why the tourists flock to Salzburg and Gmünden sight-seeing. It's only been about 20 years since Salzburg has realized that there's money to be earned by selling Sound of Music merchandise.

The movie is only 56 years old. It would be pretty reasonable to assume that most of the kids from the cast are at least still alive today (and all but two of them are). Of course a lot of the cast members who were already adults back then would have passed by now. But the lovely Julie Andrews is still alive and going strong! Turning 87 years old this year, I believe.

I am glad that the family was complete yet when they went on Ophra Winfrey show .

Man, I assumed everyone from this film had passed...good to see some cast members still living...
The movie is only 56 years old. It would be pretty reasonable to assume that most of the kids from the cast are at least still alive today (and all but two of them are). Of course a lot of the cast members who were already adults back then would have passed by now. But the lovely Julie Andrews is still alive and going strong! Turning 87 years old this year, I believe.
