RS is full of shit - for soul, playing, mastery of the instrument, multiple genres, influence, longevity.... I could go on, no one touches Clapton - period. I mean how many people soloed guitar on a Beatles track - and wrote with George Harrison regularly - Badge just one example. And speaking of Cream, they effectively invented heavy rock / metal. And R&B / Soul - in the late 60's whilst on tour in America with Cream, producer Ahmet Ertegun dismissed 5 top session guitarists for Aretha Franklin including Bobby Womack who was hot at the time on the back of Sam Cooke and Otis Reading. He called in Eric Clapton from his hotel to complete the session.... cold. Eric has been an incredible influence on rock, blues and R&B music or over 50 years . Anyone who cannot see this needs to read a book and educate themselves beyond RUclips and Alexa.

In 1999 my dad I and were watching this concert on VHS. I was in 3rd grade and after seeing Clapton play I begged my parents to get me a guitar. I wanted one just like Clapton. After a month of begging, my parents got me a $179 Fender Squire (black and white of course like Claptons) 23 years later I'm still playing and tomorrow (6-2-23) I am receiving Eric Claptons signature Blackie guitar. RIP dad and thank you for introducing me to music, specifically this tribute concert.

I remember watching this concert when they did the live TV broadcast. EC was/is my #1 favorite guitarist of all time and I was anxiously awaiting his performance that night. I was watching with a couple of friends who liked Clapton, but weren't huge fans of his. During the later part of this song, when Clapton goes on a tear during his two solos, all I heard was one of my friends quietly and slowly say "HOLY SH*T....". He got two new fans after that song. EC is a legend, no matter what anyone says.

My dad was no expert. He was not a kind man. He was a fan of music. He procured several cabinet speakers and would ROCK the neighborhood with this song. I remember how excited he was to hear and play this and the look that would overcome him was absolutely tranquil, at a volume that would cause harm. I learned at a very young age, there isn't a maximum volume for some songs.

@@brentonchattin Exactly. Both may cross musically at some point, but the best thing is that both contributed in different areas. Hendrix was the starting point in experimental guitar, removing the established limits and making noise and distortion something wonderful. Clapton contributed to the blues by being the bridge that led us to it. His voice and musical ability have influenced more musicians than you can think of and he brought a dark area of music to life, transforming it into pure light.

Eric love all your styles and your own touch on them this is so good and i would love to be able to have a concert of live requests but unfortunate it would take at least a month for that to happen all the songs i missed because I was to drunk to remember. Pre 1999. I prefer to purchase my music ftom the artists and i do. However i do use you tube. ❤Forever Fan ♥

I like to think that all of the artists playing in the 30th anniversary concert are playing even harder because Bob is watching and they want him to approve and enjoy of their interpretation of the song even tho it's been rehearsed and approved way before the concert
