I am a close friend of Paul and can tell you he moved from New Jersey to the west coast he has a career in the communications technology field. He met a wonderful girl, they wed, and they now have a son & daughter He plays golf now and then and has played in league softball. He drives like an ace, because he had plenty of practice in New Jersy first, if he were here, I'm sure he would thank you for your support.
This was hysterically funny and is the kind of segment that is much too expensive to do today. This is what made Dave's "Late Show" great. Thanks for sharing.
OMG Biff with the gun! LMAO. Also, this kid is just the sweetest. How brave to do this on Dave's show! Any chance you all could track him down now and see how his driving is these days?!? And Dave critiquing every step given his own driving record is "chef's kiss". Also, in PA when I took my test in the 80s, we had to make a left turn into a stall, get our passenger door < 1 ft. from the rt wall, and then K turn out and exit. I didn't get within the required foot on my first try, and the STATE TROOPER I tested with just opened his door and left me there. A bit much on the shame scale for a 16 year old, don't ya think?!?!?
@@sarkissyen OMG you are the best to take the time to reply! Truly. Just as kind as you were in this bit. ; ) I hope life has treated you well since your courageous driving test on national tv. I think Dave and Barbara Gaines ought to fly you out to be on their new podcast....

Poor kid. All that added pressure with the cameras and producers around. There is no way he would have actually passed but all the production value was already contributed to the finish. Hilarious. Also nice to reminded of Gov. Christie. She was certainly a governor for the people.
@@MattTee1975 Former NJ Gov. Christine Todd Whitman. Oops. Stuck in the 90s! She was often referred as Governor Christy (at least back then and in my circles in PA & NJ). @Paul Fiore no cones in vid, funny answer. Must have been a great experience, I hope the kids at your school treated you kindly afterwards, you were a good sport and it is a classic tv segment. Best wishes to you.
I really like watching clips like this. And all of this stuff is evergreen comedy, which is great. Jimmy, Jimmy & Stephen have become so political that I doubt I'll watch their shows in the future.
It's amazing how captivated I was by this video. Letterman easily found solid humor in the most basic gags. Hell of a lot more entertaining than Colbert's vaccine dance.
I never missed Colberts Comedy Central show, loved it, but can't stand his network show. I never liked the others, Kimmel is OK, but I have never watched a whole show. Theres nobody near as good as Dave was.
I don't mind some political humor, and to be fair, 1999 was a comparatively innocent time when people of all stripes were far less anxious about the state of their country. But overall I think you're right. I once loved Late Night TV and now I barely watch it as it is less about comedy an entertainment as it is about "clapter" and soap-box monologues. I mean, I get why they are doing it, but they are mostly preaching to the choir and it doesn't really change anything. We need to bring actual comedy back into late night.
Sorry but you even don’t know in the slightest of what „political comedy means“ You have no Journalist that ask tough questions. And you are picking one of the fun parts of Dave and comparing it to the Politik soft parts of the others. You could not do such a show today. These show where like social media in their days. And hardly people knew of what was going on. That’s why we revisit them today. Now everything is instant. And this is a big difference.

They actually test drivers in Jersey? Can't tell by the way they drive... Stopping so far from the line, he musta' be practicing being on his phone in traffic. Dead-on giveaway.
