Glad you didn’t cut out the “oops” 😅. So cute. Also great video! I am literally following your step by step refinishing process on my 100+ year old stairs. Thanks!
What a difference before and after. Polyurethane Min wax gives a nice shine and protection. Its time consuming to sand the sides by hand but I say. Sanding goes best with good music and ganja.
Thanks, great video. I am 58 y/o haven't used an edger since high school. Our oak stairs have deep grooves in the wood pattern I believe they were never sanded.
I want to do this as well for my stairs. I’m glad I found your video, very helpful. We have what I believe is golden oak. I would like to make them more of a Smokey grey look, do you think that’s possible? Thank you in advance.
It may be possible. Make sure to sand down any previous stain and apply the right stain that matches the color you're going for. Make sure to test a small area first and let it dry to see if you like it before doing all the stairs.
@@tavonb6478 I recommend doing th 2nd or 3rd coat of polyurethane before you walk on them. I waited 24 hours after my final coat before walking on them.
Great video. Simple step by step instructions! Doing every other step is a great trick - thanks!!! I need to do my indoor steps and this helps a lot ❤❤❤
Thanks for a great, straight-to-the-point video. I just subscribed! I am planning to make my stairs darker. When do I apply the stain and when do I go in with the polyurethane step?
Hey! After you sand and clean the steps very well, you will then apply your stain and let it dry according to the instructions on the can. After that you will add 2 coats of polyurethane. Make sure the polyurethane dries between coats.
What finish do you recommend if you wanted to keep the natural color after you sanded it? I did this to my stairs and want to keep the light tone just protect it with a finish but keep the color.
The best option I could think of is using a water based polyurethane instead of an oil based one. Oiled based polyurethane tends to yellow a lot more than the water based ones.
Hi Akeem, I used the following material and tools: - A sander with 80, 120 & 150 grit sand paper - Paint multi-tool scraper - Shopvac - Paintbrush - Sime-Gloss polyurethane - Paint edger
This may be a stupid question, but you said you apply the polyurethane and then sand and then apply a 2nd coat...you let it dry in between right? And if so, about how long does that take?
Hey that's a good question. I do let the polyurethane dry between coats. It takes 4 to 6 hours to dry before you can sand it and apply a second coat. Make sure to wipe the stairs after you sand it and before applying another coat.
At first I thought you were doing piano stairs... I didn't like that. now I see... you're just smort. I'd have done all of the stairs and then just.... Not gone upstairs for a day...
Great video! Doing every other stair is BRILLIANT! Thanks for sharing.

Great informative video tutorial You've inspired me to give it a go myself! Thanks for the tips 🙏
I'm glad I could help!

No definitely no ganja or if you want bad results.
@@HB-yq8gynope. Need the ganja to make time go by faster😂
LMAO ! Great stuff
That is beautiful!!! I think I may try that in my home!! Looks very clean!

We have the same stone floor. Did you ever get rid of it? I hate mine. It's from the 70s
I believe these floors were installed by the previous owner. They're still there for now.
Doing every other step was a great idea. How long do you have to wait before you can walk on the steps the after the first coating?

What paint beside white can use is brown good???
You can use any color you want. Lighter colors are more common.
How long did it take for
Sanding?
Poly to dry for the whole stairs?
It took about an hour and a half to sand all the steps. The poly dried after 45 minutes between coats
I have black painted stairs can lite sand reapply polyurethane stairs with multiple coats
What tool did you use to paint the white steps?
It's called an edger paint brush
Thanks for a great, straight-to-the-point video.

Hi, i just came across your channel. I have a question. You just applied 2 coats of the polyurethane and didn't stain them.
I want to remove the carpet and remodel the stairs.
@@msaadkhan2709 Correct, I didn't stain them I wanted them to have a natural look.
nice job

@@renoforless was there any stain used ? or is it natural Red Oak ?
@@satishleo No stain was used just added polyurethane for protection.
Hello sir, what type of stain you used? Could you please tell me bcoz i don't know the name.
Thanks
Hi, I didn't put any stain. I only used Minwax Polyurethane.
@@renoforless Thanks sir
Why do stairs have grits after applying polyurethane? It felt smooth before applying polyurethane.
You have to gently sand with 220 grit sand paper over each coat of polyurethane. There should be instructions on the can.
Looks awesome! How long did this take you in total?
Sorry for the late reply I believe it took me a whole weekend.
Hi there, loved the result. The Polyurethane is water or oil based? Thanks
The polyurethane I used was oil based
Well done, friend….looks great.👍
Thanks!
“Two seconds later”😂😂
What type of brush did you use for the white paint?
I used a paint edger. You can find them at home hardware stores for a decent price.
