My vote is for a session on stacking for exposure and focus in LR. As well, sometimes landscape photography is like wildlife photography where we keep thinking we will find the animal "just over the next hill" rather than doing research, as you did, and hunkering down in one spot and waiting for things to develop. Thanks!
I really like to see the post processing of the exposure / focus stacking on the shot of the tree/lake/mountain @ 9:22.
Thanks for the honest video Nigel ! Not everyone will admit there mistakes, but that's where we also learn a lot. ;)
Your cinematography got so good that I find myself watching these videos just for the relaxing effect. I do understand you have to setup the camera for every shot, even the ones where you are in the distance, all by yourself. You are doing an amazing job. I send these videos to my friends and my girlfriend just so they could look at the beautiful scenery. Just wanted to let you know that it pays off. :)
What happened was completely understandable. The conditions were almost perfect for you, and you got excited. Your mind was focused on multiple amazing shots all at the same time, forgetting about how things can & will change from moment to moment. In other words, you got caught up in the moment.
And to be honest, most of us would have done the same thing. But you still not only got some amazing shots, but you also were able to 'experience' them, and that's just as important. So don't be disappointed. Time has a way of sometimes repeating itself.
BTW, that scene at about 7:44 (of the camera on the tripod out of focus in the foreground) for me is one of the shots I liked as well.
Keep up the amazing work. We all appreciate it.
Always interested in seeing how you stack images Nigel , something I need to think about in the field and then have the confidence to process back home
I tried to wake up early a few times to catch the fog. Mist.
I want to learn to photostsack. I also believe woodland is my biggest struggle. Unless there is a waterfall or foreground, I find woodland hard to find composition. Fog is always amazing. I love watching you grow man as a photographer. Your videos are so uplifting.
To be out on mornings like this are just a blessing!
Another great video! I appreciate you sharing the “less successful” shoots as well as the successful ones too. Honestly I don’t know how you record video, get the drone up, and shoot stills. Lastly, I’d love to see a video of your exposure blend with focus stacking process.
I really appreciate that you not only include the shots you don't think quite work, but highlight what specifically you think don't work compositionally about them. I struggle with composition and I find seeing the what-not-to-do immensely helpful. Thanks for all the great content!
I did exactly the same at Rydal Water yesterday! Running around rather than sticking it out! Good to hear that even the best do this from time to time! Makes me feel better about it! Lol! Great video as always Nigel! All the best
I loved the shots you got Nigel, particularly the one with the fence in the water. You and Thomas Heaton are masters of what you do and I personally have learned so much from you. You also create incredible broadcast quality documentaries.
It's so nice to see how much you enjoy your time in the field, whether you're getting the shots or not. The rich man is the one who is happy with his lot. And the wise man in you then learns from the experience.
I'd like to see the focus and exposure stacking processing in LR.
And Congrats on 250K Nigel.
Really enjoyed this weeks episode Nigel, the drone footage was great along with the b-roll in addition to the lovely images. Been brilliant being part of your channel for a long time and to see it grow and long may it continue
Big fan of seeing the photos you weren't happy with, and the specifics as to why you didn't like them. Biggest learning tool for me personally.
Yes, seeing your focus and exposure stacking procedures would be great. Thanks for asking!
Massive congrats Nigel on reaching 250k here on the tube. Always a joy to watch your films and see your fantastic photography. Here's to the next 250k, take care.
Love the drone view, your photos generally, your instructive comments, your enthusiasm and your honesty... and your engagement with Pebbles. Thank you.
Love your video Nigel. As a new photographer I can completely relate to your panic feeling. Patience is not my strong suit and it means so much to see that someone as talented as you makes mistakes also. Thanks for putting that out there.
Always a pleasure...thanks Nigel. We are all human. See u next week😊🍂🍂🍂
What a magnificent location you share with us Nigel. Unfortunately here in Western Australia we don’t know what fog/ ice or snow is. Beautiful location you show us today is very special. Thank you. Neville.
Your work is always good to watch! Thank you for taking your time made this amazing video mate! Keep smashing it 💯💪🏽
I'd love to see a focus stacking tutorial for a situation like that. It's one I find myself in all the time and I know there are millions of focus stacking videos out there but I think your calm, knowledgeable and enthusiastic approach would be brilliant! Thanks for the awesome content
"The Aura of the Fog".... Loved it alot Sir Danson.. Take a bow 🙏
You have only gone and done it. 250k subs. Congratulations. Your content is the best. Inspirational and honest. It's helped me to develop own skills as a photographer. Which I can't thank u enough for as it's been a rough year for us all. Keep it up and all the best for the future.
I’ve been feeling like I’ve been chasing recently, it really makes it hard to focus and be present. Thank you for sharing, its helpful and encouraging to know it’s not just me :)
8:39 I love this picture. So simple, but the colours are amazing. Good job!
Great production values Nigel. Your short videos are, in themselves, works of art. And yes please, bring on the stacking lesson.
Hello Nigel, I completely understand your thinking pattern and how you feel about it! When I'm out in the morning (or another moment) trying to catch something that I thought would be there, but isn't, I also feel the need to move on and try to get a "better" image somewhere else - even if I didn't go to that other place before, which means I might not even have a "better" image in the end.
At those moments I try to remember your advice and try to adapt to the circumstances.
Thank you, Nigel, for another great video!
Hey Nigel, i absolutely love all your your videos. i've been shooting seriously now for only a few month but you've helped me tremendously. Just wanted to say thanks. cheers!
I’m sitting in my conservatory watching your video the sun is bright outside interspersed with rain and I miss being in the Lake District and you took me right back to some of the best photography I’ve done looking forward to going back again it’s a long way from Norfolk keep up the good work Mick G
It's like you're somehow reading my mind recently. Just yesterday I was out for longer than usual and was considering a second location. But then I remembered what happened last time I tried it so I stayed put for the entire afternoon. It's definitely more rewarding to stick with one idea for a session I think.
You earned my sub, it's clear how much effort you put in to these videos just after the first few scenes, keep it up.
Great video and great to see what works and what doesn't...congratulations on the viewers too. Well deserved. Great channel with great content!
I learn a lot from your videos, especially if you talk about "failures" (which would be great shots for me) and why you prefer one composition over another. Also, the videos are just fun to watch: relaxing, inspiring. I wonder how you manage to take the drone footage and still focus on your photos.
Nigel, love your work and your videos.
I learn so much and really really enjoy them.
Thanks so much.
You still got stunning footage and images. The lakes are stunning and light/conditions constantly changing.
I really respect you sir for you contribution to the photographers. Too much to learn and still never enough. It inspires me to see your dedication to the camera. I hope I could be a good photographer someday. Thank you so much.
Excellent video's Nigel, well presented and very informative. Nothing is predictable with the great UK weather wherever you are :) Great work and look forward to watching and catching up on many I have missed too, VWD
Sending congratulations a little early, you deserve every follower. You share your trials and tribulations as well as your images. Thanks!
Nigel where have you left the great friend of all viewers?
It was another inspiring video. On to the next educational video.
Thank you for your efforts.
Yes please, Nigel, regards your info on stacking images.
Your videos are always interesting, whatever you do.
I always look forward to watching them.
Thanks for all you do. Your weekly video is a highlight of my Sunday. I am learning so much from you, as a hobbyist photographer it helps me alot. Don't be so hard on yourself, I really connect with the experience of learning through mistakes. Though your wonder and positivity encourages me to keep pushing myself. Thanks.
Thanks Paul
I appreciate everything you are teaching is Nigel. I look forward to more great lessons in the near future!
Always enjoy seeing your work and listening to your commentary, Keep doing and sharing what you do. Thanks,
All the drone shots are amazing. I really enjoyed this video and yes, it would be really nice to learn to stack focus and exposure.
Thank you for all your tips and advice. You really inspire me to continue to improve my landscape photography.
A mistake I will make more than I’d care to admit patience and commitment are things I struggle with. Thanks for the video, a great discussion on this. Thanks!!
Yes, please show us how you do focus and exposure stacking.
Thanks again, Nigel. Yes, definitely interested in seeing your technique for stacking exposure and focus in Lightroom. Keep up the great work, we will all be with you well past the 250,000 milestone.
Brilliant Video Nigel, great to see a persistent Landscape photographer at work - superb
Thank you for your candor and honesty about going out and trying to chase the fog. I would like to see a video on how/when you choose go focus stack -vs- using hyperfocal distance focusing. And, how you process it in PS or LR. Thanks again.
Mega excited now.....the trees are changing .. bring it on ......love it love it love it
I found your RUclips vids during lockdown. I've never been a landscape photographer but I'm getting out there and doing a bit now. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you so much for yet again a stunning video and an honest story on what seemed to go wrong on that epic morning. I learn so much more from you telling what you would do differently next time! You probably don't realise but your words resonate in my head when I am in the field and will hopefully keep me next time from running around from one spot to another.... something I always seem to do :-).
As always, another very informative video! Loved it, Nigel
Amazing video Nigel! Yes, stacking sounds very interesting. Fabulous drone imagery. Thanks, always such good learning from your experience.
Nigel, even though you felt like you were "chasing your tail" looking for the perfect spot to photograph, you came away with many beautiful images. I think it's important to be flexible when you are in a location, and you were flexible, and I think it paid off. Yes, would love to see a video on focus stacking. Also, looking forward to the opportunity to win something...I'm feeling lucky : ) Congrats on the number of subscribers!
The shot at 11.28 with trees and mountains in the background is beautiful! With a little mist it would be epic
Love what you are doing. Keep up the great work. Thank you for sharing.
Good advice Nigel well it’s warming up here now so little chance of mist I do think it’s a great bonus for your images the reflected light in the mist too looks really interesting.
Great video! I don't usually scramble to change locations....but I do oftentimes run around chasing compositions in a single location. It's not "slow down" relaxing, but getting into that flow state is still enjoyable.
Like many others here, I'm definitely interested in seeing how that exposure+focus stacked image came to life in lightroom!
Very reassuring to hear that even great photographers like you also still make mistakes. I had wonderful misty conditions this morning but messed up almost all images because of some bad camera settings..
If you would make a video about focus and exposure stacking I would definitely like to watch that one!
Quite late today seeing this weeks video. Great as usual and I've shared it with my Group. Missed Pebbles, no fair. Got the new calendar a few days ago and love it. Stay well & stay healthy. Cheers from Florida, Rod
Very interesting Nigel, thanks for sharing. Yes, of course, I'm interested in exposure/focus Stacking
Yes please to focus and exposure stacking! Love your work
What a beautiful morning you had in the fog ✨🤩
Great video and thanks for sharing! Especially this one hits very close to home for me! When the conditions are good and you know a few good spots, we want to get them all but in the end, we get to miss them all. Just like me, for the next few months, you will have learned and stayed in one area. I found it very hard to stay put on those awesome conditions. I'm still working on that one! Great video and amazing shots.
I am terrible for chasing conditions! I so rarely get out in fantastic conditions. So when I do, I run around like a mad thing and always feel like I’ve missed out on the best composition (as you say, probably the one I had in mind in the first place!) Great video and advice as always 👍
I really love the lake photos and I am sure you will get there again for the perfect fog. Great location... Ohhhh and yes I would love to see the stacking...
A great video as always. Pays to stay in one spot. It’s a mistake that is so easy to make
The stacking video? Yes please.
Some great photos from that trip Nigel.
Wow, love the aerial footage. I have a favorite lake I visit every winter here in New Zealand where mist is guaranteed on cool clear mornings. Like, unnaturally predictable thanks to a few topographic peculiarities. Getting an elevated shot of the mist hanging in the rainforest treetops is a dream of mine, but no drones allowed. I'm cool with that, but these shots have my imagination running wild!
I was there last week!!! My first time ever in the lake district. I have only one word to describe it: WOW
I've been following you for more than a year and watched previous videos too and I've gotta say your videography has improved a lot. Great editorial with cuts that make your footage look very neat. BTW my background is on film-making.
Love it around Derwentwater, especially when you get conditions like that! I was up in Keswick in August and after the majority of the week being rain we had one day that was glorious, the conditions more than made up for the rest of the weather!
It’s hard to commit to one scene/location when things are that good though - it’s the photographers equivalent of a kid in a sweet shop! I remember that misty morning had me running around chasing the mist towards the end (keeps you fit!) 🤣
I’d be interested in seeing how you focus stack, I’ve followed a few RUclips tutorials, and seen how others do it - but it’s always good to get a wider perspective.
Always good to see how you post p your images Nigel. Looking forward to seeing the exposure/focus stacked tree image.
I would love a video about your focus & exposure stacking technique!!! Lovely video, I so much appreciate the extra effort you put into every video!
hi from Dublin , really enjoy your content , you have inspired me , to take back up my life long hobbie , you have focused me on enjoying nature and the simple beauty that surrounds us everyday . love your photos , great work .
stay safe
Thanks for all your work, very inspiring Nigel!!
Thank you for another fantastic video with superb photos n fantastic advices! I have been learning so much with theese, thank you! Cheers, from Portugal!
Beautiful images as always Nigel.
Yes please Nigel, I'd like a lesson on exposure and focus stacking. Many thanks for your excellent tuition through your videos. A big take-away from your videos for me is how you take the time to scout locations and walk around with no pressure looking for compositions.
I think that we've all been there :)
The conditions on the morning look amazing and if nothing else the drone footage you captured was amazing.
Hello Nigel, I thoroughly enjoyed your still & drone photography which you are a master of! I always learn so much from you. You put the 'Fun into Fotography'. As I watch you I wish I was your best mate, so that I could go out also to enjoy and to learn. Have a Great Day Sir,
I love your drone work and the video compositions.
The stacking video would be great! :) thanks for taking us with you to this amazing place
I'd love to see the exposure and focus stacking process you use in LR! These videos are absolute gold!
Another beautiful video...and yes, I'd love to see your stacking technique especially for the exposure.
Great Video Nigel, I stayed in Silloth on a cheap break 2 weeks ago ( not the nicest of places ) and spent the day in Keswick. Started up at Ashness Bridge where I took what must be my best Landscape shot ever, especially as I’m mainly a Street Photographer. We went in to Keswick for lunch with a plan of going around Derwentwater afterwards but the weather had other ideas.
As usual it was so interesting to watch
Always enjoyable and informative. The cinematique b-roll was especially beautiful this time.
This was a great inspirational video Nigel and gave me lots ideas. Thank you :)
Thank you for sharing all your experience. It's wonderful. Would love to have a video on stacking.
I really enjoy your use of the Mavic in your videos. Really adds something and you get some great video footage! This time you used it for some scouting, which is a great idea. I'd like to see that Lightroom processing as I thought focus and exposure stacking would be a Photoshop task. I have no idea how to combine focus and exposure in a stack.
Thanks for this Nigel. Another excellent video and very different from the 'run of the mill'. Some practical and valuable learning points. Great!
Really well done video Nigel. It takes some courage to display your errors via the interweb. Hat's off to you. But it did make for some things to consider when we go out there to find that shot.
Yes please Nigel, more processing tips!
The Lake District is amazing during autumn!! Was there last year and hopefully, I can be there again next year.
A great way to get going today your video and I received your great calendar yesterday thanks 😎
Great video Nigel, loved some of the drone footage, we were due to go to the Lakes this week but unfortunately caught COVID so had to cancel 😞which is a shame as without doubt it is my favourite time of the year to be there.
