I am 73 years old and just venturing into drawing and oils. I was a primary and elementary school teacher for 35 years and I can say with confidence that you are a wonderful instructor! Thank you for your insightful lessons, hints, and explanations! Much appreciated!
Your videos are so important to me as a beginner because they are guiding me in the right direction. It is like going to art school and learn from a very professional and experienced teachers. I truly thank you for all these fabulous lessons 💖
I was getting stuck with getting the proportions right on my drawings from reference; this video gave me a new way to look at the problem and a method for fixing it. Thank you so much!
I have come back to art after the longest gap and want to sharpen my skills. I just stumbled upon your video and now I'm hooked. You explain these tough things so easily that the whole process starts to feel fun again. Thank you so much for these beautifully explained lessons🙏😊
Dear Florent, Thank you for your great turorials and the training in the Atelier technique! I find it far more helpful than any other drawing tutorial found on RUclips. I wis the best for you and your family in 2022 and that you continue your successful and beautiful drawings and paintings!
I really like this channel, and Im a not English speaker, I might have a hard time understanding some words, but I will rewatch it, and practice again and again to improve myself. Thank you so much
I've tried several times to teach myself to draw in perspective and to draw accurate proportions in perspective! It's SOOO difficult! (at least for me).
I recommend you start learning basic perspective methods like rotating boxes in perspective, before getting into complex “sight size” methods. There is a free course called “Draw A Box” on youtube that really helped me understand perspective. And moderndayjames’s perspective videos. Perspective to me is the most important element of drawing and once you understand it you’ll feel free drawing anything you want, but first you have to start understanding the basic shapes first then mold them into anything you want.
I am very new to oil painting and used to watercolour. I love to paint portraits and want to learn about the face and figure. I found this beginning basic drawing video very helpful and will move onto the next one. I am enjoying watching your videos very much.
I really like the idea of using plumb line, it makes so much easier to get started. if it is possible will you please comment of scaling up and down a drawing from a photo. Thanks
Very useful video, especially the bit about landmarks. I'd love to see how you use the plumbline with 3D models, like a still life in a shadow box or even a live model. Keep up doing these drawing videos, they're excellent.
Thank you so much, Once you explained how to go about measuring points and distances drawing doesn't seem as daunting as I believed. Great, great video, Cheers !!!
Bonjour Florent.
Dear Florent, thank you for these in depth tutorials! Another question occured to me which I couldn´t find an answer to in your videos. What technique do you use when drawing in a different scale than your reference? While some techniques of the sight size method still work, like comparing proportions, others, like comparing dimensions and measuring, do not. So what are possible ways to solve this? I have noticed in some of the videos of your large scale oil painting that you occasionally use some kind of grid, but it seems to me that this is more for the purpose of the composition rather than the scaling..
Draw everything you want from life or not one hour or more every single day once or more during the day. Seriously nothing beats exercise, even the most unorganized one.
Did a copy of a drawing side by side same size and I raised the drawing with something so new drawing paper would have a decent position for theresult. Everything was 1/4 inch lower than original. That’s ok but why?

Art is a wonderful solace during these difficult times. Thanks!
Votre vidéo est très utile. Et votre anglais parfait ! :-) à bientôt sur Patreon.
Again I'm amazed that you can show me more useful information in 11 minutes than I learned in 5 years of art school. Thank you
I haven’t been to art school but how did you even get in without knowing proportions???
Thank you for putting this video together, anchor points make it so much easier.

Inspiring video with some great tips. Thank you!
I started using a “proportional divider”. It largely seems to be unknown but really helps me. I would appreciate your view of it. Thanks.

I think it's incredibly difficult for a vast majority of people :) I am also quite bad, and trying hard to improve but it is quite difficult.

Permenant1, what a great advice! You are so right! Without the basics, it will be very difficult to understand everything else. Blessings and be safe.
Great video. Keep up the inspiring work.
Very helpful I was terrible at proportions especially in the eyes this really helped now it’s time for practice practice practice
It was very helpful to show the paper with the plumb line and anchor points drawn on. That made what you were teaching much clearer. 👍

Hello RUclips, this video is one worth watch. :)

i have a question, is it "too much" to use two or more plumb lines?
You look like a painter...you literally look like it. It's like in you blood and soul
What type of Easel do you recommend to draw on ?
What would you teach a very beginner who has never drawn anything but wants to learn
Proportions! That should be your main goal!
Draw everything you want from life or not one hour or more every single day once or more during the day. Seriously nothing beats exercise, even the most unorganized one.
Drawing basic forms in perspective and values.
HI Sir!new subscriber here!..stay safe!
hello can you put in French subtitles in your video because I want to learn
Did a copy of a drawing side by side same size and I raised the drawing with something so new drawing paper would have a decent position for theresult.
Everything was 1/4 inch lower than original. That’s ok but why?
Nice..i like 👍. Connected
Why not a scale instead of plumb line?
❤️❤️
Why not use a proportional divider ?
Because the drawing is done sight-sight (1:1) and the goal is to train to be able to draw without measuring tools.
Dude I apreciate your videos, but all of these videos sound a bit too sad haha, like the closing music when you ask for support. Cheer up mate
Sir u play guitar
