do i need access to a garage to apply a ceramic coating? and after i've applied it can it be kept outside during the curing period. If yes does the same apply to ceramic spray coatings from say turtle wax or meguiars?
A clarity on this would be extremely helpful. i'm doing a 2 step paint correction on my 11 year old vehicle and i;ve watched your polishing for beginners video and collected all the information required up until that, all i need is what conditions are needed to apply a sealent.

As a prosumer who is only applying coatings to my own vehicles (or occasionally doing coatings for family/friends/neighbors) and who has no intention of starting a business or buying insurance, I really like the idea of either filling out a form/having a discussion with a brand rep and/or signing a waiver in order to purchase a pro grade coating. I like Armour Detail Supply's approach, and I hope Yvan follows through and makes C6 available to consumers with a waiver. Another coating I've been looking at is CCI Advance, it is a pro-grade coating that is easy to use and they make it available to anyone. It is formulated quite differently than most coatings as it is a sediment suspension design with much less solvent (so they can pack more active ingredients in there). They also use much finer grade particle size so it can "fill" more of the voids in the paint surface.
Just like you, I would like to have access to every coating on the market. I can spend $500 on a polisher that will take the paint off my car if used wrong, why can't I buy any coating I want? I'm an engineer who designs 10-50 foot tall retaining walls all day, every day. I can read and understand instructions and I understand that there are risks to everything. If I make a mistake with a product and leave a high spot...that's on me...not the coating company. If I kill it with a chemical that it isn't compatible with, again that's on me. Give me the guidelines/instructions and I'm good to go.

Honestly I wouldn’t get any hopes up. I’m a detailer looking to get into ceramic coatings and previously spoke with c6 and they said that they’re only really targeting detailers with quite a bit of experience and suggested I just use their hydro lite. I’m just going to stick with roar as it seems like their coatings are pretty comparable and their rep seems like a helpful guy which is enough to sell me on it.

Amateur here in SoCal near the beach, I put Adams Advanced (little gold label glass bottle) on my Fiesta 2 years ago and it’s still going very strong in the places I applied it. I also tried the advanced spray on (gold label plastic spray bottle) the spray has since worn off, but the glass bottle is still going strong with super water beading still, and easy car washes. The areas that have worn off I now use different spray on products like the Turtle Wax minute wax.
(I work at a auto shop and we have a little community of car enthusiasts) and a local detail shop brought by a GMC Yukon in black with the CLS they had applied the year before, and the customer did all their own washes. This car was still looking so great, deep deep black with little to no signs of swirls, and still had plenty of resistance to things sticking to it. (PDR glue would not stick at all you could one pinky slide it off)
Thanks Pan for bringing me into the wash and detail world. 🤙

I can completely appreciate having different formulas, at different quality levels. Chevy made the Chevette and the Corvette, completely different vehicles, totally different performance, very different price, the similarity was, I could go and buy whichever I chose. I understand that the results will be totally dependant on what I do to prep and apply the coating. Even if it's hard to apply, it should be me that decides to undertake that if I want to. That being said, I have used coatings that I'm NOT certified to use, with excellent results. You made an excellent point that only very few people even care about detailing, so limiting that even further, to only make a product available to a specific subset that is "certified" seems somewhat silly. Even what Armour Detail Supply is doing, having to fill out some form, and provide a bunch of information, before they will allow me give them $$$ for their product is ridiculous. As a vendor, all you need is my credit card number. The "territories" are just dumb. What about the mobile detailers. If the customer lives outside the territory where the business is registered, they can't take the job? That's insane. Some of the warranty stipulations, just make the warranty itself not worth the paper it's written on. The "support" on the back end some companies offer should be something I can decide if I want to opt into, and pay for. Not get their certification just to be able to buy the product. Let's be honest for a minute, in at least some cases the actual job done by an enthusiast can be better than an actual pro. A detailing professional has to do their work to a price point, and time is very important. A skilled enthusiast doesn't care how much time it takes, or the effort involved, because they were doing what they love in the first place. It's an emotional experience, not a financial one. FWIW I consider myself as a prosumer. I do get paid to detail cars, but it is not my only, or even primary, source of income. BTW I did listen to the end, but don't do the hashtag thing.

Brands that make you go through a vetting process will probably never get me or my clients money simply because there are tons of reputable brands doing the same exact thing. Many of these “Pro Grade” coatings are made by the exact same manufacturer making the exact same formula for a “consumer” brand.
MSDS don’t lie. Check them before getting locked in with one of these brands.

That’s the problem with ceramic coatings. They are not “snake oil” but the companies that are gatekeeping their “pro grade” coatings might as well be “snake oil” salesmen. Genius marketing making the average consumer feel like they didn’t over pay but in reality we both know they did.
Iam the same way will never support another company that sell a “consumer and pro grade” products under the same company name. Speak up with your wallets and don’t support these companies.

Absolutely agree with Pan that there are differences between the consumer grade and pro grade coatings. However, I do believe manufacturers deliberately create the pro grade and consumer grade for understandable marketing reasons and to be able to extract maximum value from the market . Professional detailers want to be able to offer a product that is called "pro-grade" in order to distinguish their offering from the DIY market. And their customers expect a better offering if they are paying a pro to apply it. So they will pay a premium. Also some DIY consumers will also seek out a pro-grade labelled product on the expectation that they can get a better result with that product and will be prepared to pay a premium for it. If the pro-grade product is indeed better, then the brand does well. if it is the same product, this is eventually discovered ... We see this behavior in many industries - you can buy consumer grade paint brushes or pro-grade. You can buy a DIY table saw or a pro-grade one.

I think people who pays close attention to this, may have also watched Chicago Auto Pros professional ceramic coating test and long term tests. Some performed better than others, even though a lot of them are certified installer-only, others failed just like "consumer" coatings. The key is really maintaining with a regular washing cadence or once in awhile perform a decon/restoration and putting on a topper.
Professional coatings tend to just be more durable, but are harder to apply, and come with warranties. The general consumers need to understand ceramic coatings are not a force field, either with a Pro or Consumer coating.

It's marketing. People who are professional marketing agents are following a formula that gains sales. 'Appealing to Ego' was the class, if I'm remembering correctly. Then follow it up by selling a training session with a nice piece of paper titled 'Certified Installer' ready for framing.

The majority of people, including weekend warriors, do themselves a disservice when they incorrectly clean/decontaminate their vehicles. Their agressive approach does more to push contamination into the substrate than to properly clean and prepare it, which is what any coating needs to bond properly, full stop. The coating is one of many tools that a professional uses to get a quality result, not the point of the service. The point of the service is X to Y years of protection (within reason) and less frequent and agressive cleanings, which leads to years of a quality finish. Net/net, remind your clients they're paying for the technician's knowledge and experience that lead to the years of shine and protection, not the name on a bottle.

About the warranty specifically, I don't know that they all provide one. Or maybe that's just the detailer I went with. He's a certified Carpro installer and I got the professional grade coating on my car, and all he said is it's expected to last years but how many that is comes down to how well I take care of the coating. Basically what you said about washing, decon etc. When I looked up Carpro professional grade coatings I couldn't see any guaranteed time frames on their website, either. (Some people have criticised me for getting Carpro professional installed because in my country it's much more common to have detailers who don't tell you what product they use but will advertise "warranty packages", e.g. "2 year coating", "5 year coating" or "10 year coating". Of course, you pay loads more for the ones lasting longer. Personally I didn't like not knowing what product will be used.

I don't worry about overhead and running a business, but really respect the folks that do. Especially the ones that try to help us out with detailing. Great people. Something tells me it would be a very difficult sell using just pro-level coatings. Almost everyone I know doesn't know what a ceramic coating is, and trying to get them to fork over even more money would be a tall order. I could be wrong.

Another great video and hit a lot of what I've felt for a while.. frustration with being denied access to pro coatings. Got a real chuckle in the beginning when Pan pointed out that few people are into this level of detail when it comes to cars..1% if that? "You're probably the only one on your block who cares"!! I love you, Pan! Grounded in reality. But true, it's our thing. That said, now everyone is in the ceramic coating game and things are changing. BTW, we can all forget about "warranty".. it aint happening. So, it's a 5 year coating and water isn't beading at 4 years 3 months? What do you want? Be the mayor of realville. Polish your car and apply a new coating. Yvan, the idea of a phone interview and signing a waiver for access to pro coatings would be fine with most of us. Seriously.. most of us car "nuts" who are going to spend over $100 on a coating are more likely to go through the labor to prep the paint and follow some instructions. High spots?? Awww, gotta break out the polisher or re-apply fresh coating..... not the end of the world. The only time I would have an issue is if a coating actually damaged my paint.. clear coat bubbling and peeling off.. and I've never heard of that happening so.. Come on guys, don't make it that hard for us to spend our hard earned money on your best coatings.

Hey Pan - first of all: GREAT video! Good reasons anyway - but to stress out at first: we have to keep in mind that we're talking about a "luxory problem" for any customer. Especially here in Germany. Automated washes are way cheaper than a full detail anyway and - here you have so many regulations, that just forbid washing your car by hand at your house.
speaking for me - I am a "weekend warrior" but - I do it official as side job to my regular 100% job I am having. I am 10years now in the detailing business, so I'd say I have some experience in applying ceramic coatings. I am also part of the IDA as a certified detailer.
I started with diff. Brands like Geyon, Optimum Tec., CarPro, MaxProtect, GTechniq etc. I am even certified by some brands for their professional coatings. As you said there're pro's n cons in being certified.
My personal opinion on being certified is as follows: for a detailer you have to decide what you want and what you get. Does the certification pay off at the end or do you just want to collect the certificates on your "I love me wall" to impress yor customers? My personal experience here in Germany is, that 90% of the customers just don't give a dime for any kind of certificate when they go to a detailer. They mostly come with horrific and (ad infused) images / expectations on how long coatings last and what they're all good for, but only want to pay 250.-€ for a full detail with the "top notch" coating you offer. 🥱
I personally don't go through certification with brands, where I have to pay a 4 digit number of €uros - just to get into the process of the certification. The costs are just not worth it for my business. I'd have to raise my prices in levels where I will not have customers any more. Often you'll be bound to their line - or you'll be taken out of the "certified detailer map/list". Some even track your results on insta, fb or tictok or even worse - do fake calls ordering a specific treatment, just to see if your price matches the given "minimum" of the brand. If not you even may end up in court due to "breaking the rules of conformity".
I do NOT beleive in any promises made in ads of different brands, as long as I have not personally tested the coating(s) myself. So I only offer coatings to my customers that I know that work well and the brands promises are realizable to a 90% security.
Touching the "warranty" topic - I have made only positive experience with the brand I use, that offers the warranty for the coating. Other than that I always tell the customers, that there's NO warranty on the coating behaviour itself, due to the fact that after handing over the car to the customer I have absolutely NO IDEA HOW they treat their freshly coated vehicle. If they keep to the maintenance cycle and I see the car regulary to be able to tell the health of the coating - everything's fine. If not - I just can't help them due to the lack of knowledge how they treated their car - simple as that.
Thx again for this good and informative video!

Pan thank you for having the difficult conversation about coatings. When I first got back into detailing the coating world felt like a clique and you were either in or out. I was talking to my SEO person and he was telling me how many professional shops use DIY coatings for their consumers because their coatings are better than a lot of the professional only coatings. Phoenix EOD Kronos and Blue Collar 7 are also stout coatings anyone can buy which are better than some professional coatings out there. The Armour Detail coatings look stout and I believe Ethos is going to soon make their professional grade coating available. In my shop I sell warranties from one year, theee year, five year, and a lifetime warranty. C6 ceramics is my lifetime coating and they are amazing. Their product is outstanding along with their customer service. Like a Roar coating they cost more and are worth it.
If your a shop and you depend on the manufacturer to finance warranty claims then your customer service is terrible. I will first polish the car and then repost the car to support the warranty. Then I will contact the manufacturer just as a courtesy there may or may not be a problem.

Great insight to the difference between a professional and consumer ceramic coating , for me there are so many different ceramic coatings to buy we need videos that you make to show us what we are actually buying and is it worth it . From Carpro c quartz 3 to Gtechnig crystal serum it's a mind field out there and price wise as well matters .
If one bottle costs over £120 and one bottle is £60 i would be inclined to buy cheap knowing i still will get up to 2 years protection .
Still waiting for Cerakote to bring version 2 out and if it cures within 2 hours that will be the a game changer for everyone .

I've always been leery of these captive "certified installer" places. It turns places into captive shops because these agreements often have a non-compete type clause in these contracts. New, improved, cheaper, or better value products come along all the time. Why would a shop lock itself into an agreement like this and exclude the entire universe of better products? At the end of the day, if I'm paying for professional service, I don't care what they used. I only care about outcomes.
These agreements also have exclusionary criteria, and anti-competitive features. Such as you can't be a certified installer if there's another installer within X distance from you. Or you have to have a shop that meets specific criteria. Again, if the work is quality, I don't care if it's in someone's home garage, a rented space, or a full service shop with a fancy coffee maker in it. I just want the work done well.

There is a difference but in reading many instructions for the pro grade stuff, the application is nearly the same. The one difference I usually see is that working time has a bit more flexibility in consumer grade. Take Gyeon for example. They literally tell you now in their pro coatings that you don't even need cross hatch, that you can apply in any pattern you wish. In my personal opinion, they do pro only so that their commercial clients stay with them and don't scream at them. It also allows them to continue to claim that their a professional brand. Btw yes id love to watch interviews with various certified installers, though i dont think they would be comfortable talking poorly about any aspect of what they use. #coating

Thank you Pan for this. This topic was always on my mind when I started coating. I do understand that brands have to make money. So it is quite difficult to meet both prosumer and brand needs. I do believe that there should be a middle ground that would satisfy both sides and if the consumer wants to be certified it’s up to them at the end. My uncle owns a mk4 Supra and I’ve wanted to give him a strong and durable coating that’ll last him for a while. I ended up just giving him a 3 year coating due to me not having access to any professional grade coatings. I would love to try multiple prograde coatings but being certified in order to use it turns me off. I do respect brand businesses and have nothing against them I understand it’s a business at the end of the day. #coating

Would a product like ADS Amplify, used right after applying a newly applied ceramic, graphine, nano diamond coating as its curing. Do like a protectant? OR is therr a better product you would recommend?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  Месяц назад

I wouldn’t expose a coating to water or rain before the recommended curing time for your specific coating, even if you were applying a topper on top. The topper is more to protect the coating for the first weeks as all coatings continue their curing and hardening process for the first weeks after the application.
There are now coatings that only require 1 hour of curing before exposing to water or rain. See a video where I used one of the more advanced ones here: ruclips.net/video/4Kznrg3Z31o/видео.html

Can you tell if its possible to layer (different) ceramic coatings over another? Like first layer carpro over that Gyon? I know thats not what they ment for but i would like to know if its possible and if there would be a benefit or disadvantage. Because i got the Gyon Mohs right now on my car but still have a cerakote. And since cerakote will send anyways a "new one" i thought i could use the "old one" to top off the Gyon.
I know there was a video from Yvan Lacroix where he said it doesnt help to apply spray sealants over and over again since the new layer will remove the old layer. (Video was 3 years old tho).
Is it the same with true ceramic coatings?
Also im not sure if you know this but the turtlewax scratch remover has a clear coat in it right? Is it an issue if i apply a ceramic coating over it? (Solved Wise)
Would be nice to have a test where everything is tested with wax on spray sealant, spray sealants over ceramic coating, ceramic over ceramic, ceramic over turtlewax clear coat.
And if the turtlewax clear coat has no issues can you apply it over the whole car Like a coating? Thought would be more clear coat would make like an magnifying glass and over that an ceramic. Should make more gloss?
    Sorry i ask to much😅

I currently use the Gyeon range but I have considered swapping to another brand or even running two brands as we have two cars. It's hard to get a clear brand comparison as most are individual product comparisons. I like to stick with a single brand and have all products in their range. I.e Car pro, Gyeon? P&S? No ceramic coating is designed to protect against swirls, scratches or stone chips unfortunately. At best, they provide light marring protection from when you are washing and towel drying your car. PPF is what protects the paint against stone chips and scratches.
So MOHS EVO is an amazing coating, but not for the reasons you stated here. Coatings are meant to provide the following features:
      - self-cleaning properties, meaning the car is much easier to clean
      - gloss
      - slickness
      - chemical resistance
      - UV protection
      - protect the paint from bird droppings, acid rain, fallout, tree sap, etc
So you already have a great coating there. If you use safe washing and drying methods, you shouldn't get swirls or scratches. I had my 911 Turbo S for three years, and it was still pristine after those three years.
Here's a video I made with a Gyeon expert talking about all their paint coatings and the differences between them: ruclips.net/video/w_dpnJH_Mz0/видео.htmlsi=tl4dqP6byXTfW8W4

That's why it's important to use a quick detail spray or a drying aid when using a microfiber towel for drying. A drying aid acts as a lubricant between the towel and paint, helping to reduce marring (also known as "love marks").

Thanks! I don't have an opinion, as at one point, you have to trust and rely on what the brand tells you. Time will tell how long their stack lasts, but I tend to prefer 1 layer solutions. Their 8 year is so good on its own, I don't see the need for the stack.
I applied the 8 year on a car in this video: ruclips.net/video/L5SQ0ZIJCj0/видео.htmlsi=-U4nhbwYDTrwxl0R
But even better than any DIY Detail coating is the new C6 Ceramics Hydro Lite (sister company of DIY Detail). This coating: bit.ly/3yeW0Wh
I will have a few videos with that soon. ;)

#Coating Pan, how do you feel about applying a ceramic coating to a car that may still be in need of some paint correction? My old '98 Nissan really needs a completely new paint job, but that is not in the budget just now. The paint on it now is OK, but not great.

Pan, do you have a hookup for CarPro professional coatings? Looking for the pro Dquartz for my Ford Lightning. I reached out to them and they said they wouldn't sell to me. I'm just an enthusiast and have done several coatings in the past. Located in USA.
