  • As a tribute to Joe Meek's pioneering genius, I have uploaded this long lost Scopitone film footage to celebrate today's 50th anniversary of Telstar's release. Featured are Alan Caddy, Roger LaVern, Clem Cattini and Heinz. It also marks the lesser anniversary of about three years since the screening of the film of the same name and my extraction of a settlement over its intellectual property infringement of my book 'The Legendary Joe Meek'.
    Uploaded to public view 17.8.12.

Many thanks for posting this ULTRA RARE video, it is truly mesmerising.
I was toally unaware of it's existance but a friend in the British Legion yesterday was talking about seeing it 50 years ago so I did a lot of searching - it did not come up on basic searches.
Many thanks for your efforts in posting this treasure on the 50th Anniversary of the Telstar record, Wonderful.

Well done John for setting this up on RUclips, now the whole world can see it and know that Moran did indeed get his just rewards for infringing your wonderful book TLJM.I to had been searching for this Scopitone footage along with `Farewell Performance',with no luck whatsoever. You really deserved to find it first, and it was your bookTLJM,that inspired me and my wifeTegwen to join The Joe Meek Appreciation Society back in 94, you have done so much to keep the name of Joe Meek alive.Brilliant !!

Wow, thanks *so* much for uploading this. I'm such a huge fan of this song. PS: Don't listen to those who're asking for better audio, I love its purity. Again, many thanks!

I've seen this video before, in the 60's. Maybe on TV but I did play video jukeboxes (cinebox, scopitone) when on holiday, remember also seeing Acker Bilk's "Stranger On The Shore".

Nice to see the originals on film. Thanks John.Still wonder what it would sound like if it was played on the Vox Continental keyboard. This track the original clavioline one.

Thanks John. Pity the Telstar film was a poor reflection of Joe's pioneering spirit plus all the hard work you did over many years reflected in such a shabby way by Moran and his sidekicks. I think they thought they were going to make a lot of money but at an estimated cost of Five million pounds and a return of only 65,000 pounds they got their just deserts. Why they chose to stretch the boundaries of truth for titilation will always remain a mystery to me. The real story had more than enough !

John, This is a very nice video. Thank you very much for posting it. However, I am curious about it being classified as a Scopitone. The only version of Telstar listed in available Scopitone archival material is Scopitone A-140 made in France and featuring the late Eddie Vartan (Sylvie's brother). Is there an intersting back-story here?

Love it but dub in better audio and that'll do it!
