You have a big job! I live on the Beara Peninsula of Western Ireland. Everyone needs to do two, three, even four jobs to make a living. Farming, fishing and construction take precedence. But, people still manage to do creative things. Which is what you are doing. Go for it! There is only one life to live; fill it up with meaningful acts! Be happy.
Thanks for posting. Just found your channel very informative. I'm currently looking for a Westsail 32. Something in good shape but don't mind doing some work. Live in southern Spain so looking in Europe but wouldn't mind a crossing if I found a good deal.
That’s great. Thanks for watching. You wouldn’t go wrong with a Westsail. Depends on your future sailing grounds, but there are a few 28’s I know coming to the market that are fully refitted.
@@Even_Keeled well I'm interested if they are for sale. I can come back to the states for a few weeks. But would want to be sailing her across shortly after buying it. So it would have to c complete boat if I buy in the US.
@@Even_Keeled yep I've been watching this one. Looks like it's in great shape. Theres also one closer to me in Faro Portugal that I'm waiting to see. Owner is traveling right now waiting for him to get back. I haven't actually seen a westsail 32 in person. So thought I would check out the one closer to me first. Have a Merry Christmas.
I don't plan to drastically change it. A lot of owners try to modernize the interior, which I am sure would look great, but I am leaning towards maintaining the wood and will recondition it with varnish or some other process.
Just found your site. Now I have to go back in time to find episode #1. Looking forward to that. Good luck with the refit and repairs but you appear to have good bones to work with. I wish you fair winds and the occasional squall just to make things interesting.
Thanks for watching. Soon, I'll have another video of recent updates. I've been through a few squalls in the past with this sailboat, and it is reassuring to have such a thick hull, heavy displacement of a WS32!
Hey, nice boat! Where did you find it and for what price? Any tipps for someone searching for a boat like this, who is willing to save it, but can’t pay a lot up front?
I sailed on this boat with the previous owner. So I knew the boat. When it was damaged and insurance totaled it, I was the highest bidder for the salvage auction. For most, salvage isn’t the way to go. Most boats are truly destroyed. If you can not pay for a lot up front, then a full refit project might not be the best direction. You would be better off saving and getting a boat that you can make changes to as you have the funds. You would have something that is more or less ready to go but will need the upgrades over time. I’ll have a video later with cost breakdowns. For close to $5,000 USD I won the auction and shipped it from the coast to my farm.
Depending on the country I’m heading to, I pre-exchange a certain amount of USD to the local currency before I leave. I can also use a card accepted worldwide and with fraud protection. There’s plenty of blogs and cruiser guidebooks that have port/marina/anchorage/tide guides for most destinations.
@@Even_Keeled thanks. I am looking for a WS. Planning on something. Not sure what. I am enjoying your videos. Thanks and best of luck in all your endeavors.
Was there shower facility. Like pull out shower head. Just can't get any response on this even westsail owners association. I guess no water heater or water pump for pressure.
Routed in the engine bay on my Westsail was a pump for a cockpit shower. I have also seen a setup with a shower grate in between the saloon and v-berth, with cabin doors closed, which drains to bilge. Nothing else is mentioned about showers aboard per westsail.com/servman2.htm

Definitely good advice. It is a balance. That is for sure. I want to sail to Ireland at some point. Rounding the Fastnet Rock is on the list.
@@Even_Keeled Choose your season wisely!
@@nick.caffrey Most definitely.
Big project, but huge potential!
Agreed. It helps to have it sitting in the backyard. Now I only need the time.
@@Even_Keeled You'll get there! You seem determined.

@@Jyock There is a Westsail already in Ireland. I'd keep an eye out for listings here: www.yachtworld.com/boats-for-sale/?makeModel=westsail

Looks in decent shape inside and out .. Usually owners over the years hack and butcher the insides up and you end up with a mess....

No water in sight, just beeeeeeees!
Plenty of wind and nostalgia.

Thanks for answering! I appreciate your detailed answer. So maybe I will save a bit more : )
Good luck. There are a few websites that match up crew. That might be a way to go sailing now and learn while using someone else’s boat.

How do you deal with money when sailing long distances. Card, cash, ?????

Wetsnail 32. They like to bury their bow at slow speeds if she isn't load balanced.
