This song makes me remember when I was in high school ! I loved this song by that time in 1998, last week I heard it in a SuperMarket and I bought it on iTunes! Lovely Suzanne Vega
Susanne Vega is a very special singer and also a brillant songwriter : she has her particular artistic personality, she belongs to no one trend, she is always herself, she's very smart and also a really classy woman!
I have always loved this song because I can relate to the lyrics. All my life I have suffered from an anxiety/depressive disorder, which I feel people pick up on, and so treat me like some kind of outcast. Suzanne's song really addresses this issue, how people in general tend to judge a person on outward appearance alone, and not seeing the person within. The world of the depressed person can appear to the sufferer as a bit topsy-turvy just like her video depicts. Thank you Suzanne for addressing this issue in a wonderful thought provoking song.
Have you listened to her song Solitude Standing? That song resonates with me so much because my depression makes me extremely lonely at its worst, among other things.
***** Yes I am a long time fan of Suzanne's music, and "Solitude Standing" is another song that I am very familiar with. Suzanne has always wrote songs about issues that other songwriters would never consider writing about. "Luka" being a prime example, being a song about a child living with domestic violence. This song also applies to me, because I grew up in that kind of environment, and could be a factor in me being the person I am now.
I'm just now getting into Suzanne Vega's music and I love her songwriting. It's so unique, and it blends beautifully with what goes on harmonically in her songs. That must have been really hard to go through. We are definitely all affected by our pasts, but we don't have to be defined by them. I'm currently trying really hard to overcome who I was, and it's difficult.
***** There are a few other songs by Suzanne that I can personally relate to. One is "Night Vision" a song about a person trying to find his/her way in a world of darkness. "Small Blue thing" perfectly describes the way I often feel, fragile like china or glass. And "Private goes Public" describes the way I feel when I have to go out, and interact with people socially.
To my knowledge she has never recorded a live version of this song. Although she did do a live version of it for BBC radio way back in the late 90's. I recorded it as it went on air, and have it on an old tape somewhere. I have seen her perform "live" twice in the last 10 years, and she never included it in her set, which was a shame.
Suzanne is soooooo beautiful!!!! I've had the pleasure of seeing her 3 x's. All the way back to '86. This vid. GORGEOUS!!!!! Her and Joan Jett my fav female artists. Oh, yeah...I'm aguy.....SV. Most profound lyrics I would love to ask where the inspiration comes from A
Left Library feeling sturdy, wise to the story I once discovered, Song lifts me to those words, my judgement for the story left me hoping for an encounter somewhere between A Book and s Cover, want to cover this!
What is in between A Book and a Cover, pages inspiring us to read into it, go figure it out, the story speaks to me, Musically lifting me, past my disfunction, as you sing it seems, worlds part ways, so stay close, I am one of those, as your special beauty, leaves me coming back for more!
What's that they told you About a book & a cover? Don't judge so quickly, Is it too much too remember? 'cause pictures lie, You know. I'll show It's so. Just give it one thought. What's that they taught you? To revere a kind of beauty? To paint on that pretty veneer And try to hide whatever's dirty? Well, faces lie. You'll see No sympathy. Just give it one thought. Come here and I will whisper true About the things I know of you, And you will recognize them, Always... As near to you as breath and bone, So dear to me, and yours alone, And I will love you for them, Always... What's that they tell you About a book & a cover? Don't judge so quickly. What's that they told you
About a book & a cover?
Don't judge so quickly,
Is it too much too remember?
'cause pictures lie,
You know.
I'll show
It's so.
Just give it one thought.
What's that they taught you?
To revere a kind of beauty?
To paint on that pretty veneer
And try to hide whatever's dirty?
Well, faces lie.
You'll see
No sympathy.
Just give it one thought.
Come here and I will whisper true
About the things I know of you,
And you will recognize them,
Always...
As near to you as breath and bone,
So dear to me, and yours alone,
And I will love you for them,

They'll tell you one thing and then another.
But see what lies
Within,
Under the skin.
Just give it one thought.

9 - 11 WTC references? 1998?
Si, hay demasiadas referencias sobre el 9 11 desde el inicio de la cancion
Shut up
Many say so. Al Carly Simon and Breakfast in America supertramp
"Timeless!!!"
@CryptoDah2 so how can it be pure 9/11 symbolism if 9/11 attacks were in 2001?
happy christmas to you New York

Vive Le Roy vive la France
nice pop song! who plays e. guitar? nice tone!
She looks so young here. Yet because it was shot in 1998, she would have been 39......
She has a Timeless Elegance about her.
0:59 Bruno Mars???
Sim
Or Lenny Kravitz? Bruno Mars was about 13 when this song was released
❤
9 11
Where can I buy this track? Is it on a compilation?
It is on "Tried and true the best of Suzanne Vega"
Referencias al 911
Asi es pero como dice la cancion , te diran una cosa y otra, para que pienses que nada tiene que ver con el 11s
Pure 9-11 symbolism.
This was before that
Exactly, that's the main purpose!
1:41 Holy moly
Check out sade (cherish the day) 1993 music video is 9/11 witchcraft at its finest

This woman is one of the great American artists. It's appalling that I mention her name and the kiddies look at me with a blank stare.

Sunny Stayed Home
Sunny stayed Home
on a rainy day in Texas
to honor the arrival
of Her eternal nexus
Love and joy
peace and happiness
a new lover boy
and a daughter to bless
a new reason to sing
and an urge to undress
for an eternal fling
a new blessing to bring
to Her eternal Home
riches and glory
infinite aplomb
and a handwritten love story
Sunny Stayed Home
to celebrate
stayed Home for kisses
to be waited on in bed
to be hand fed
by true love
Sunny stayed in bed
for a back rub she said
Oh darlin'
why would I ever leave
You 'know' Me so well
My beloved Candlekin
I love You can't You tell
Sunny stayed Home
with all Her cosmic kin
who wondered where she went
something about a fire a circus tent
and messages heaven sent
Sunny stayed Home
to listen and receive
closed the book
put away Her box of tools
swore off fools
Sunny stayed Home
to hear Her dream tale told
about eternity and glory
how everyone watched
Her origami story unfold
Sunny stayed Home
cause that's where Her love is
that's where Her nirvana
and bliss exists
stayed Home to be kissed
Sunny stayed Home
to celebrate
and to open Her presents
grace love sacred fate
without precedence
Sunny stayed Home
to await
the arrival of Her
dream date
She was nervous so
She hid in the garage
and when she heard that name
She 'knew' true love
is not a mirage
and nothin' burns down
no high wires to walk
not when Sunny
stays Home
to count the years
and share Her tears
with Michelle
Sunny stays Home
together they count the years
now they 'know'
that they always
'knew' it
end
Quantum kisses for You forever from everywhere darling blessed sacred eternal soul Shawn Colvin
