The valedictorian, who I don’t believe was shown on camera (you could follow up), had the only sensible answer: the issue is overblown and schools shouldn’t be even involved in the debate.
The whole thing is a way for politicians to distract us and give people a "them" to be afraid of and to blame for their problems. It's othering a group...nothing more.

Very good. Make whatever lifestyle changes necessary. I did a couple of years ago and am seeing the good results of it. It's tough, but there's always support from homeschool co-ops. Dig around and you'll find at least one in your area.

Kids shouldn't have to be worried about their gender at such a young age. This is absolutely ridiculous.
Here's a thought...if you don't want your child to worry about it...foster an environment of acceptance and encouragement with your child and don't put them in a situation where they don't trust you enough for them to be open and honest with you about themselves.
If I'm ever told something like that from a teacher and I was not already aware of it...I would feel like I failed as a parent. It means my child didn't trust me to come to me with questions.

@@ryant115here's a thought, if the teacher manages to influence a child about transitioning or gender related, would that mean other way around about what you said? And perhaps you are confused between ABUSED AND PARENTING. Now a days disciplinary actions by parents is considered abused. And to add up, the parents have all the rights to see fit on what decisions on their child, it ain't you who raising, taking care, feeding and for most the PARENT of the child.
But how about the child's right? How about their feelings? They are CHILD, they meant to have different feeling, they tend to be FLUID ON EVERYTHING, and they don't have certainty on everything, that's why they meant to be parenting by their actual parents, not other way around.

I was the only in my entire school who was trans and I had to restrict so one day I could have some resemblance of who I was and one day attempt a transition. This is a medical issue.

She hit it for me because she was afraid I wouldn’t love her anymore because she didn’t know why she felt the way that she did and this was about 10 years ago, but she wanted me to know the truth because this is how she felt inside and didn’t know why didn’t even like it. She tried to fight it numerous times even after coming out to me and you wanna know why? because she knew that people like you all hate people like her. So she tried to change her. She was in the mood to be transgender. She try to fight it all because she knew that people like you exist in this world and she was afraid for her life transgender people can’t change their who they are or what they are anymore than you can make yourself gay or transgender people on this thread should be ashamed of themselves. If a child is in danger of the parent in any other capacity the school is empowered to act to protect that child by calling the authorities. However, keeping secrets and supporting confusion of a child from the parent is unacceptable. Damaging a parent child relationship is unacceptable for the purposes of carrying out an agenda.
I agree. Honestly I doubt many trans kids would be abused or neglected by their parents. Their parents may not affirm their gender or allow them to transition but I don't think they would be abused. I think there would be very few cases of that happening.
I could care less about how a person identifies and their path on sexual identity. I am more concerned if a teacher sees a child having a drug issue violence issue

Let's talk about the real elephant in the room. Mental illness, gender dysmorphia illness. And it's a disservice not to help the kids with this illness instead of catering to it and mutilating them. Look into who owns and makes money off the horomones, surgeries,ect. I'm curious what these schools get for handing these kids up as trans. As the schools can initiate surgery without parent consent in this state. So your darn right parents have a right to know. The public school teachers in Calif are nothing more than paid groomers at this point. They are our kids not the states. The school is trying to determine if the kid is trans for it. They don't want to tell the parents so they can't intervene. Wtf is really going on in our schools.schools should just be for regular studies. BTW I have no issue with adults being tans. Tbh this should not be allowed in schools. If the kids and teens of this new generation want to be a part of the LGBT community they should do at their choosing once they become legal adults not when they are young and supposed to be discovering life and having fun not stressing out because they're confused on what gender they should be.
The "LGBT community" isn't a social club with weekly meetings...people don't just suddenly decide to join up like they would a local YMCA.

Ithough i do think kids should not be concerned about this kind of stuff until they are an adult to which they start to understand it better, i also think its a very bad idea to make it a requirement for schools to tell parents about this. It puts the kid at risk of domestic abuse if the parents are against it. Imagine if your parents were very anti lgbt and homophobic and the school learns you're gay and tell your parents, who knows what they would do to you. Abuse, disowned, kicked out of the house, etc. Out of all the other issues facing schools they choose to act on something thats not even a problem. Bullying? Schools shootings? Nah, telling the parents that their child says they are trams is there top priority, pathetic

I don't believe a teacher should have to tell a parent if their child is transgender as long as the child behavior is not being effected by being trans.
In short unless they are treating to harm themselves or others or acting out or having problems then there no reason why teacher should get involved.
However if behavior issues arise and is disrupting class or effecting the child in some one then a teacher should be obligated to tell the child's parents.
Maybe the school should out the kid to the parent with a sit down. If the adolescent wants a medical transition, the parent has a week and a half to get on board. Then there is a final sit down, where adolescent is asked if they were rather be pulled from the house and allowed to medical transition or stay in this abusive environment. If medical transition is requested, the adolescent doesn't have to go home and is raised by the state following the standards of care for medical transition. Best medical practices for a patient is treatment and to deny someone appropriate care is abuse. No apology!

If an adolescent needs medical treatment and that person can tell you in their own words the limitations of treatment and the consequences of inaction, they have the ability to reason. By denying medicine to someone who has that ability is injustice and leads to mental distress.
You've never been in this situation but I have. I survived through restricting protein to 15g and calories to 1200/daily and sealed the growth plates long before I entered high school. I had no other choice if I wanted a transition or some resemblance of myself.

@@KimmminemWest Well the goal posts get moved everyday and with you even within the same sentence. If a 16 year old commits a violent crime, he won't be tried as a juvenile. In Iowa and Arkansas, legislators argued a week after the anti-trans bill that minors should be allowed to legally serve alcohol to drunken adults who come on to them and want to take them home. I know the hospitality industry is hard up for workers but arguments that children were not able to make similar decisions about their bodies were reversed just based on the issue.
Maybe males shouldn't register for the draft at 18 or go into the army at 17 with parental consent. Better yet how about getting the military the hell out of our schools. They are the original groomers who offer no male autonomy by shaving heads and proselytizing anti LGBT rhetoric.
