- Learn how to digitally remove a tattoo or unwanted object inside Adobe Premiere Pro with the Mocha Pro plugin from Boris FX.
Product specialist, Mary Poplin shows how video editors can remove unwanted objects (like tattoos) without jumping over to After Effects! Mocha Pro's powerful Remove Module combined with Adobe Photoshop can simplify this common digital makeup challenge in post-production.
The object to remove is tracked with Mocha's planar tracker and the clean frame is linked in the Remove Module to seamlessly match lighting and color changes.

Finally, mocha tutorials for Premiere Pro users like myself 🙏🏽, thank you
No problem. We hope to do more showing how you can do quite a lot with Mocha + Premiere for those that do not like to jump to After Effects. ;)
@@BorisFXco YES PLEASE. This would be a great Playlist to continue on
@@BorisFXco Thank you Mary. Definitely, need to break it down further like this Tut. In the past two years, many of your Tuts have whizzed through/overlooked much of the basic stuff WAY too fast, or the really, really basic stuff was never revisited from 3-4 years ago. Please don't forget with each new version there are new people coming on board who quite likely only ever used the AEX tracker or Mocha AE thus a vertical learning curve when finally invested in Pro. Going back over the past few years, you'd pretty much forgotten the new folks coming in and just focused on the vets who were only interested in the new features each year. A new "official" Playlist every version of say 10 Basic Tuts would be very much welcomed by many, rather than trying to piece it all together from multiple stakeholders on RUclips. Thanks for listening.
How about a new free 40+ tutorial series? We gotchu : borisfx.com/free-training/mocha-essentials/
Thank you.. excellent tutorial. Helped me tremendously. I am slowly understanding the basic workings of this tool.
Thanks so much. And thanks for spending the time to learn the software properly.
Mocha is the greatest gift to video editing world
Loves From India
Amazing tip! I came for the tutorial and found our footage being used as an example lol
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing your clip on Pexels. It's really nicely shot.
Спасибо,как всегда все четко и по делу
Thank you for the kind comment. Glad you liked the video!
thank you for a very nice video
Thank you too
Pls do include more tutorials for premiere pro
Definitely. We have so many hosts that Mocha supports it's always a challenge to find the right balance.
Could this also work inside Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, with the Mocha Pro OFX plugin?
Yes. We recommend using the Fusion page inside of Resolve. Mocha Pro in works in other pages may work, but performance can be unpredictable with certain modules and is not supported.
When push "Apply matte" then whole footage dissapeared and we can see only the mask of the removed area.. it is not working like in your video... do i miss something ?
great content hi mam can these like paint the tatoo in skin , effect also being applying by powermesh for add a tatoo to any chacrecter skin ?? Please any suggestion mam hi there myself Rony a VFX CG student from India
How about this one : borisfx.com/videos/add-tattoos-with-powermesh-and-mocha-pro-in-vegas-pro/
Pretty useful Tutorial
Thanks!
Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!
You are very welcome.
I'm trying to render the project in premiere pro but when I check the render box nothing happens. Do you have any suggestion on how to fix this issue? Thanks :)
Are you using an edited clip? If so, the best thing to do is to nest the clip first and apply Mocha Pro to that nested clip. If you've already done a complex track, you can cut/paste the Mocha Pro effect from the original onto the nested version. You may have to slide the keyframes over in the Mocha Dope Sheet. It's one click and should fix you up.
If you're still having problems, let us know on the forums : forum.borisfx.com/
graciasssssssss
can you do multiple removes in the same mocha ?
Yes, you can. From a workflow point of view many people choose to use a separate instance of Mocha for each remove section. Multiple removes are processed from bottom to top.
how can we use it on premiere pro I Don't get it clearly
What exactly are you trying to do? What happens when you apply the Mocha Pro filter to the clip? You might be better off just posting this on the forums with some screenshots. It will be easier to see then. forum.borisfx.com/
How to cancel or undo after a render operation ?
You don't really need to undo a render as the cached files aren't used back in the host. If you want to see the unaffected clip again, just go to the top of the viewer and change the viewer dropdown from "Remove" to "Selected Layer". To cancel a remove midway through, just hit the Escape key.
What to do when the light dynamically changes at the place of the deleted object ?)
That's when you start exploring the Illumination Model settings in Remove. Exercise 20 of Mocha Essentials gives you a good idea about how these work : borisfx.com/free-training/mocha-essentials/
@@BorisFXco cleanplates works in stereo vr ?
Absolutely. Yes. A great trick is to generate up a few cleanplates along the length of the shot. Then Use Cleanplates Exclusively to really speed up your renders. Very handy if you have a remove that is thousands of frames long!
@@BorisFXco with 3d conpensation in my stereo vr footage, mocha remove object, 1 frame per 1 minute )))
(amd 3990x, 2X3090 gpu, 128 gb ram)
It's the 3D compensation that's increasing the render times and you probably don't need it. That's more suitable for a different type of remove situation. If you are seeing big slippage in the removes, then add another Cleanplate midways between the others.
is the second part published? can you link me please
This second part got lost along the way somehow. I have this one, which shows the same workflow : ruclips.net/video/pvQrvha-DeQ/видео.html It is in VEGAS Pro but only a short amount of time is spent in the VEGAS interface, and all the Mocha options will be exactly the same.
@@BorisFXco Thanks for answering, I'm usually with efffects, I'll see if I can clarify with Vegas.
I have a doubt, in this video the edges are very marked and I have followed step by step, that is, it shows like a "patch"
Add some edge softness and it will help to smooth those edges out. If you have some more questions you're always welcome to join us on the Mocha forums : forum.borisfx.com/
@@BorisFXco edge softtness in smoothness correct?
Really awesome
Thanks a lot 😊
Damn...
Nice & Thanks :)
Thank you for watching.
New to Mocha, it looks incredible, but I'm following this tutorial on some 4k footage and I am doing my first render and it's taking aaaaaaaaages compared to what's shown in the video. I have 40 seconds of footage and it looks like it's going to take hours :( Is it because I'm running at 4K and 50fps? If so is there any way to speed this up? I would expect it's a capable enough PC:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3600 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
32GB RAM
Any advice appreciated.
There are a few things that can really speed up your Removes. Are you using cleanplates? This is the number 1 way to get faster results. Even if you let Mocha create cleanplates for you every 50 frames or so, this will be much much faster. Another thing to do is to turn on Auto Step and reduce the value in # of Frames Before/After. This will tell Mocha not to search through your entire clip to fill in missing details.
If you check out Exercises 19-20 in Mocha Essentials, there is a ton of advice about speeding up the Remove workflow. borisfx.com/free-training/mocha-essentials/
Hope that helps.
try removing a color fingernail and replace it with color of a different fingernail. lol yep. did it
