HOW TO WALK FORWARD IN TANGO- TECHNIQUE TO WALK ELEGANTLY IN ARGENTINE TANGO l Dagny Arizona

  • You walk for years not thinking about it, and then one day you are in an Argentine tango class. The teacher says "okay everyone, let's walk forward normally." And then you realize, do you really know how to walk forward normally? So you try to walk forward elegantly, without looking like you are trying too hard. She rests her head in her hands. "Let's try this again. Just walk normally like you are walking down the street!" she says. You do exactly what you just did, a second time. Your teacher realizes the most basic of human motion may not be so clear after all.... And thus, you begin to study walking for Argentine tango. What did you get yourself into?!
    Jokes aside, I see a lot of confusion about walks in my tango classes! Mastering an elegant walk can be one of the trickiest things we do. But like everything else in life, practice makes perfect. In this video I will give my tips so that you can achieve this elegant walk as well! Next video we will be walking backwards!

    2:50 Extend forward in front on the center line, or extend forward "naturally" in front of you out of the hip socket (like walking normally)? Your choice! I prefer to respect the anatomical front instead of hyper exaggerating towards the center line. Unless there is a time where I am trying to emphasize an extension forward. As a follower I do not experience this as often.
    3:09 I don't hyper exaggerate a turnout, or sickle my foot inwards. I try to maintain the v position of my leg in my extension.
