I appreciate the honest feedback many of the interviewees give about life in the Philippines. I also appreciate the fact that many, if not most, of them come from cultures where INDIVIDUAL SELF-OWNERSHIP AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY are emphasized. While every culture has its pros and cons depending on local conditions, this focus on INDIVIDUAL INITIATIVE is a much welcome contribution to HUMAN CAPITAL in the Philppines. I vlog about the vanishing Filipino middle class and how certain policies led to Pinoy poverty. But one can't underestimate the power of VALUES in producing outcomes. It is my hope that more and more expats come to the Philippines to offset (in a small way) the exodus of the middle class and contribute to the 'values conversation' - don't think for a moment that all Pinoys consider foreigners 'criticizing' the local situation is a bad thing. Many of us need this to focus on what needs to be done.
The lowest point in my life was when I worked in Cincinnati. It was so bad I re-enlisted in the Marine Corps. Got stationed at Eltoro Orange County it was heaven until I deployed to the Philippines. I retired here 18 years ago and never regretted a day.

I’m surprised that a lot of these Newbies aren’t fully aware of the Travel Requirements (One Health Pass) for the Philippines. Sounds like he got scammed for $60 USD . This interview, the man easily moved forward coping with the issue and seems to have a laid back attitude that will serve him very well in the Philippines. Lesson well learned. Great Job. Hello foreign visitors and migrants to the Philippines our beloved country. Sorry if you are experiencing inconveniences from time to time, our country is still regaining back to improve starting 6 years ago, So be patient, we would like to be friends with you too. Enjoy your stay, your stay helps us see what else we need to improve. You can contribute a lot to our improvements through exchange of expertise and experience. Hope to see around when I come home soon. i am currently leaving in Thailand.
Agreed. And I just entered Phils yesterday. I think the Philippines Dept.of Health, who manage the required OneHealthPass, has been hacked. Somebody has stolen foreigner email addresses & is scamming them. I didn't fall for it, like this guy. But I did spend over an hour filling out the legit forms, & fortunately I knew ahead of time what info was required. And you're probably right, many people decide it's not worth the hassle
