- the first weekend of the year, I kept it kind of low key with making a fire in the valley with the two dogs, what a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

Kona's so good - she doesn't seem to mind the cold. But, I do wish you could wear winter dresses - even in your Homeland it gets cold & there's winter - I don't know how you survive that cold! Thanks for the lovely hymn. Happy New Year - it'll soon be Easter, keep well.
Giselle, the lint you clean out of the clothes dryers makes an EXCELLENT firestarter. It catches much more easily than the Doritos did in your video.
Especially if you stuff it in an empty toilet roll, then wrap that with newspaper like a Tootsie roll, ha!! Use them when we go camping!

Several years ago I bought a Hutterie cookbook. I've used it a lot over the years.
I did not wake up knowing that I needed to see you start a fire with a Dorito, but this was the best possible start to my day. Blessings on your Sunday!

I like the peaceful atmosphere of the weekend, your walks in the snow it's real life as well. I love seeing the snow ..you know I live vicariously through your snowy walks, sledding and winter fun. We are actually waiting to see if we are going to get snow, freezing rain, ice or just extreme cold here. Not something we see every year so we always prepare for the worst. Snow plows and ice trucks aren't really something we have!😂😂😂 Happy New Year, may it be filled with many blessings and lots of adventure! ❤❤❤😊
Lovely video Giselle. Where I live, it almost never snows. We’re not even getting snow with this blast of cold coming down from Canada. I grew up with snow and cold and sometimes really miss it when it’s 100 degrees. I hope you have a blessed Sunday and time with your family.

The trick with fires is to have lots of small bits of wood to catch the flame, they will make the big stuff burn :-)
When I teach little children how to light campfires, I use tiny candles, like you get for a cake, so they can hold the flame for a long time without getting their fingers burnt. 🔥

Hi Giselle, how do you keep warm ? I get shivers seeing you and your friends in minus 20 walking around as if there is nothing to it. Isn't Kona a girl ? Lighting a fire with the help of Doritos, never heard or seen that before. If that's the case, Doritos can't be any good for you. Take care, Doug.
Hi. An alternative handy fire starter is dryer lint. I usually save some in a small plastic bag after drying laundry. It catches very quickly and I don’t have to sacrifice any yummy nachos or corn chips! I don’t think that my dog could resist them if he was nearby. Kona is so well behaved!

Also are there any recipes in it that are your favourites?.....and is the cookbook for big batch cooking like you do for your community?I'd love to buy a cookbook if it contains some of the meals you've shown us before as they all look delicious.I cook for 100+ people every day at my job and would really like some new recipes.I think our residents and staff tire of the same repetitive menus we offer.It would be nice to switch it up once in a while.Thanks for your videos.I look forward to them.

They say cotton balls with petroleum jelly make a good fire starter.
Fritos make better fire starters, I make fire starter from cotton make up remover pads I dip them in candle wax. I warm up my candle warmer till the candle is all melted and dip away, easy and no mess, I lay them on paper plates till they dry and I carry five in a baggy with a lighter in my coat pocket at all times. This was played at my mother’s funeral. She was the epitome of someone who led a Christlike life. She was kind to everyone and made quite the legacy for herself just being kind. She died with no worldly riches as she was continually helping other people that no one knew about. She never disrespected anyone’s denominations or personal beliefs. Yes it does, but it burns very quickly. You have to be ready.
Stuff the dryer lint into cardboard toilet paper tubes.

I think your fire making skills are ok, but those matches aren't very good. If you can find some that are made of wood instead of paper/cardboard those will burn a little better. Or you can totally just use a lighter : ) An easy DIY fire starter is dryer lint/fluff mixed with melted wax or cooking oil. Just be careful with them because they are VERY easy to catch on fire. Don't leave them near a sunny window.
