Years later, when I see my neighbours scraping it off and me with my Luke warm water (it don’t take long) and the first one whose in the car ready to leave lol

  • @richardschofield2201

    Why go through the complication?
Provided it's no colder than say -2C, just fill a kettle with warm water, pour it in the windscreen, check your wipers are free, then put them on immediately to remove the water and prevent re-freezing.
    Done.
It doesn't really work at colder temperature as it re-freezes too quickly and you have to do it several times, at which point it's easier to just scrape.
The bag method surely wont work, as what you've melted will just re-freeze. You can't do it quick enough to remove the water with the wipers.
Oh and thermal cracking is only a concern if you have an already damaged windscreen.

I think the glass cracking from hot water mostly does damage, if you windscreen has a slight crack already whereupon the water enters the crack and freeze, causing expansion.

Yes it works with a very thin "ice" but if it's 2-3 mm thick then the water bag is not enough. It loses it's energy faster then you unfreeze even 1 window.

best to just get an auto-starter that you can turn on a few minutes before going to the car.
