  • As with our last forgotten and cut content piece, there was SO MUCH that was left out of the original World of Warcraft Vanilla launch in late 2004. Previously, I spoke on continents, factions and quests, this time we'll dive into classes, races, and abilities that should have made it into Vanilla in some capacity. Time for Lost and Forgotten, round 2!
    Ancient Warcraft Lore is a RUclips series where we discuss all things old Lore and Story in the Warcraft Universe. From the truly dilapidated corners of game manuals and obscure unit statistics to observable and documentable in game lore, this is all about bringing back the glory of ancient lore of Warcraft.
    Ancient Lore is a followup to the long forgotten podcast Ancient of Lore from WoW Radio. Starting back in mid 2005, Ancient of Lore was the first lore and story discussion broadcast on the subject of World of Warcraft. We continue that legacy of critical thinking and analysis here.

    The tauren got done so dirty- and they’ve still remained my most favourite race of all time. It says a lot about how awesome I think Plains Running is, that despite mounts being my main goal throughout everything I do in WoW and am constantly flexing my collection: I would undoubtably use Plains Running as one of my most frequent ‘mounts’ assuming it worked in largely the same manner as mounting up on anything else.
    How cool would it be to see someone travelling down a road on their 60% speed wolf, only for a Tauren to OUTRUN them on foot and just like wave to the other person 😂😂😂

    • @TheDanNation
      @TheDanNation  Год назад +2

      Right? It wouldn't be as efficient, and there'd be drawbacks sure, but I'd use Plainsrunning EVERYWHERE.

    Worgan should have been like the Dracthyr, it a total Werewolf autonomy race/class mix. Tank should be model after the "Incredible Hulk" more u beat on them, they get angry rage shape-shift into a Worgan form , DPS could have been a Pack Leader with a Hunter's Pet , Healer's could have been a Druid healer Ripoff ,which isn't a bad idea , seeing the Night Elves Druids played a roll on helping Worgans .

  • @phantom0456
    @phantom0456 11 месяцев назад +5

    Plainsrunning should have been implemented in the same way that the Worgen’s running ability was, where there was just a cast time to engage it and it otherwise functioned like a mount would.

    • @TheDanNation
      @TheDanNation  11 месяцев назад +1

      There's SO MANY ways it could have been properly implemented, unfortunately it never got to see any real development light of day.

  • @JohnRengo-h4w
    @JohnRengo-h4w 8 месяцев назад +2

    Mounted combat would only be exclusive to a few classes if it ever was implemented. Those being the warrior, paladin and death knight classes. These were all the melee armored classes we've ever got, and it makes perfect sense for these too.
    I can hardly imagine mages or rogues sitting on horses/wolves though. Its sometimes contradictory even to gameplay, not just lore, as assassins would want to be stealthy in combat.
    On the armors part, I never understood why did the different cloth types exist outside of lore reasons, in my opinion it further limited character building with no real benefits. Making it the same as Dark Souls would have been too much, but I would be interested in a system that allowed more flexibility and unique ways of playing.

    • @TheDanNation
      @TheDanNation  8 месяцев назад +1

      I can imagine mages on horseback or otherwise, Archmages in Warcraft 3 had them and besides Blink I don't think there'd be much conflict. Rogues wise, you're absolutely right, them in mounted combat would make zero sense.

    If we wanna go absolutely hog wild with Classic, let’s get playable neutral factions. Goblins, non-faction pirates, and maybe Dragons/Dragonkin? They can have neutral hubs as a capital and are neutral to both factions and can party up with them but are locked out of faction-specific quests and stuff. For PvP they can be “mercenaries” for either side and are treated as such for the duration of their “contract” which would be some set of hours for world pvp and the duration of the BG for instanced pvp content

    • @TheDanNation
      @TheDanNation  Год назад

      I agree with all of this except for Dragons/Dragonkin, replace them with Ogres and I think you have a SOLID idea here. Great thinking!

    • @doubtingtom92
      @doubtingtom92 Год назад +1

      I've been playing with a head canon of potential 3rd faction races. It makes me think of how EverQuest reputation worked. Like, I bet an Ogre wouldn't be allowed near Stormwind, but a Goblin might with the riiiiight reputation.
      I mean, in WC3 all races did business with the Goblins at some point with Merchants and Laboratories.
      And I never understood why Tauren and Night Elf Druids in the Cenarion Circle couldn't communicate.

    I love that you're willing to expand your speculation to adding the Naga. I know, i know, it'd be a nightmare to implement with mounts, armor and such, but huuuuu ff, imagine the lore 😖

    • @TheDanNation
      @TheDanNation  Год назад +1

      Back in the mid 2000s it was an immensely popular rumor, speculation ran wild about the Naga being included as a possible choice for both factions or one or the other, it was rampant. It was ridiculous but also incredibly fascinating.

      Naga , Murloc, Gnolls ,Centaurs etc should have a "LOTRO Monster Play PVP Mode" in Desolace and Badlands ... be a sorta like a 3rd faction

  • @IvyTinwe
    @IvyTinwe Год назад +2

    About the missing leg and feet-slot for Naga: Mechagnomes do too! So, it wouldn't be such a big steppy step.
    I do get that you miss certain classes and aspects. But imagine Mountain Kings or Chieftains as classes: you'd have 500 standing around in the current main hub, which is weird. I would wish for certain hero levels for classes with long quest chains (like in Legion) that unlocks new abilities or changes some.

    • @TheDanNation
      @TheDanNation  Год назад

      In the same vein though, it's VERY weird to have a warlock just standing out in plain sight with a succubus or fel hound, or every 60 priest with the same glowstick attached to their back. It'd be weird to see more than a few chieftains or mountain kings around, but for chieftains, at least there's some lore to back up the idea that there's a group of them. We do know Mountain Kings were leaders of the Dwarves, but otherwise we know next to nothing sadly.
      As for the nechagnomes, very very interesting! I very much gave up on retail after BFA and haven't played Shadowlands or Dragonflight, so I'm not always caught up with all that, how did they balance not having those equipment slots?

    • @IvyTinwe
      @IvyTinwe Год назад +1

      @@TheDanNationThey still have equipment slots, but no legplates are showing. They just have their weird mechanical legs and arms, it's just not customizable. All you can see from the leg slots are the textures covering their hips, but everything that goes into thigh and legs is mechanical.
      And YES, a hundred times yes. It doesn't feel special anymore, and I wish for it to come back so I can really identify with my overpowered glowstick!

    (Since you asked our opinions) I think WoW should have always been class-less. Similar to the alpha talent system characters could have built any combination of proficiencies and skills. Blademasters were beloved in the RTS games, but since many signature abilities were given to warrior and mage we'll never see them. But being class-less would allow you to make one (same with Shadowhunters, Spellbreakers, and more)

    • @TheDanNation

      This is a really wonderful idea, and something a lot of people think so as well. There's a private classless server that I'd strongly recommend you check it if you get the time. Here's a link: ascension.gg/

    What Blizzard done to tauren is sad to me. On top of stripping their uniqur indentity once you leave their own lands, you are no different to any other race. If tauren could fight with totems or halberds and wear totems as their unique spice(and like wise for other races, like shamans or witch doctors for trolls) they would more unique.
    First and last time people saw a proper tauren fighting with a totem was in the WoW vanilla cinematic intro...
    They made them less like minotaurs visually, for some reason made them make and sell guns which should be a goblin specialty.
    They made the kodos in last second as silliest mounts due to illogical speed and animations. I wish all races could keep both their unique classes or at least cosmeticly class variants/equivalents and aesthetic with armour and weapons they can craft use and wear. Shamans to have wolf or other animal pelts as their visual look and predisposition for hand weapons like claws they uses in Warcraft 3.
    Even creep races are affected, like quilboar using ...crossbows? It was their native ability to shoot quil darts in wc3... with their weapon of choice being simple flails, none of which are in wow too...

      Vehicle combat was NOT mounted combat, and also very much was nothing like Knights, Wolf Riders, Paladins, Death Knights, Archmages, Shamans, Priestess of the Moon, or other units fighting WHILE mounted.
      Any other idiotic snarky and incorrect remarks you have ready to go, or were you done making an idiot of yourself?

    • @ShellworldGames
      @ShellworldGames 11 месяцев назад +1

      My idea for mounted combat would work much like how you described in the video. They are essentially speed buffs, so a short quest chain that adds and alters what buffs are given would have been (and still would be) very much appreciated. I think it's likely that true, not vehicle system based, mounted combat has yet to be added because of the clear implications it would have in PvP, and that it would be clearly superior overall to playing unmounted in most cases. They would need to give me reasons to get off my riding wolf.

      Race/class restrictions are what made the game have such passionate horde/alliance division among players and made pvp much more fun. Paladins and Shamans should've never became available to both factions and I think even more faction specific classes should've existed. Undead being priests was just dumb and conflicts with the original lore but also Death Knights being in the Alliance. Legendary hero classes from Warcraft 3 should've been added to specific factions and races like only Orcs being able to be Blademasters, only Dwarves Mountain Kings etc. Would've been such a flavorful thing and it would make players try both factions to experience certain classes.
