I can still remember the first time hearing one of these live and CRANKED at a gig. Blew my mind! Your demo reminded of that night. Great stuff! God bless and rock on 😎🎸👍
Johan You are always looking at the amps I love.I have a Deluxe Reverb and The Super Reverb is one of my favorites. The Charvel is really getting some great airtime also.
Great sounding amps often overlooked for the earlier silverface or old blackface amps. Seems to have a more hard rock than blues voice. Would love to hear a side by side with an older one. Thanks for the demo and great riffs, Johan, stay safe my friend
As the owner of a 1968 black line super reverb I definitely know why you had the headphones on. When you crank a ceramic speaker Super reverb loud enough to break up like that it can make your ears bleed. Props Johan. I can only imagine how loud it was in that room. At 5-6 mine rattles my whole house. Mine has stock 10L6 oxfords. But I do own a like new quad of 1964 Jensen C10q’s that I’m thinking of swapping out just for experimenting with it.
My 1st real amp. A '65 in mint condition from original owner. He even added casters. Used it for 20+ years. Traded to a friend for a high priced Marshall '59 plexi. Not a good trade.
Don’t ever let a good amp slip through your fingers because it’s not a collectible museum piece. Some of the circuit modifications in the Silverface era were trash, most weren’t. They increased reliability and versatility.
Finally I'm ahead of the curve. My two 1976 Fender Super Reverbs with the master volume and tube rectifiers just went up in value by 50%. Seriously though, my 1st amp is completely original, including the original RCA black plate power tubes, and it is my favorite amp. I will never part with that amp while I'm still breathing. You can turn up the volume to start getting a little breakup and then dial in the master volume level. The 2nd amp has the master volume disengage. Some say it sounds much better with this mode but I don't agree. Running overdrive and distortion into the front end also sounds great. From classic rock to even some metal with the right pedal (Friedman BE-OD Deluxe). But of course as we all know, Johan could plug into anything and make it sound great. Thanks for letting the cat out of the bag (sarcasm)! Cheers.
I recently scored a 1976 Super Reverb and it is near impossible to find out much about it. Mine was made, to the best of my knowledge, January 1976 based on every single part in it dated 1975 except the reverb driver transformer which dates to 2nd week of 1976. I need to go over it and do all the necessary maintenance. The cabinet was water damaged and rotted on the bottom so I put it in a Bandmaster Reverb empty head shell for now. I realize its a 2 ohm speaker load too.
That's an 80's MIJ that Johan did a shootout against a Les Paul and this Guitar really held its own.I think Johan might have been impressed with it .I was.
Hi, Johan! I see, you are sharing your videos in the midnight, so I can catch you in the right time. Great amp. Those guitars are very nice with every amp, because they have very high output. Sometimes I like just to play it, feeling like a metal hero!:-)) See you! Zigfrid
I got to see "Golden State Lone Star Blues Revue" (quite a mouthful!) at the Sellersville Theatre PA, where Ansen Funderburgh and Little Charlie Baty (now sadly passed away) who both where playing Strats into Super Reverb amps, thinking back I believe they were both blackface, however it was a glorious sound on stage that night, just magical
Thank, Johan. I'm not sure what's the gain like, but Josh Smith uses a Super Reverb in pair with AC30. Would try this combination somewhen? 4:15 sounds close to Albert King
Thanks Tyrone! There’s no SV Marshall scheduled for demo I’m afraid. Since 2021 I only demo current production amps in collaboration with the manufacturer. So if Marshall provides me with an SV20 I’d be glad to demo it. Cheers
@@JohanSegeborn what a shame, only insofar as to say, I really look forward to you demoing the amp! But I’m all for your move to create revenue, wish you all the best.
Thanks for all the Videos! I wonder if Plexi clones come anywhere close to the originals, I have two clones. Your choice of 500 series modules makes me wonder too, aren't plugins close enuff? Thanks again bro!! Rock On.
Thanks! I think there are many Plexi clones that come pretty close. In a rig it’s usually the output transformer and speakers that differ the most to the originals. When it comes to outboard it’s especially the mic preamps that are needed. Would be interesting to compare the 525 compressor and 550B EQ to the plugs in a video! Cheers!
Because of the volume and ease of breaking up and some like the 12 inch sound also. The super reverb in a small space or house will even be bordering on too loud with sparkling clean
@@mohamedtlass3842Ok good points. Fender snobs: "You can't get good sounds from an ultra linear Fender amp" Johan: "Hold my beer"
I'd really make them mad, then, because I thought for a second he was playing a Peavey Tracer lol
i love the late ‘70’s Supers. so loud and clear, yet edgy in a good way. there’s something special about the 4x10 configuration as well.

Always grateful for your awesome demos.
Thanks man, I’m glad to hear that!
The super reverb has an awesome sound which is totally different compared to other amps from this era. I like it!
Okay I'm still watching it those sounds you getting are awesome I need one of those

Thanks my friend! This guitar has very hot pickups so it’s pushed into hard rock territory. Stay safe!
Yeah I love that sound for my good old Surf 🏄♂️ Tunes
A Charvel was not the guitar I expected as a pair with this amp... but it sounds great! Awesome job Johan.
Killer combo guitar/ amp, i dig it so much, solid tones Johan!👌🏼
Thanks Vincenzo, I’m glad to hear that!
Conclusion of this video: Yes, whammy bars are a lot of fun to play around with:D

Yeah the headphones very necessary here 😉
The PERFECT club amp.
And the MC5 used them on their "Back In The USA" album.
Endorsement enough for me 😉

Thanks my friend! :-)
May he NEVER lose it:Dr. Evil!
Johan, you are gradually redeeming my opinion of the Silverface era, one amp at a time! :-D
Had a '79 Super Reverb. I had a lot of great memories with that amp. A heavy beast too.
Really GOT those grungy surf vibes going on there Joh! \m/
If Johan ever gets his hands on a Super Six,,,,,,,,RUN !
Hahaha! Those are cool 🤘
The amp and the charvel pair nicely! Great playing as always
Thanks, yeah they worked beautifully together! Cheers
I just played an 1980 at a pawn shop the other day. These get a bad rap because of the master volume but it is pretty handy
Makes me want to go crank my Super Reverb. Fantastic amp. Just soooooo heavy to lug.
Only Johan is allowed to pair a super reverb with.... A CHARVEL!!!

Out of interest, what’s prompted the recent switch to SM57s for close miking? Cheers!
I bet this amp could through some dense mixes! :) But it can also output some great rhythm tones!

What's your favourite Fender amp for a Les Paul? I'm thinking of getting a Super but the Bassman head you've been using sounds really fantastic.
It does not sound like a blues, it's very nasty. I like it.
Sounds awesome, plugged straight in? Always figured these UL amps were total clean machines, even at high volumes!

Sounds like it...🤔
Very nice sounding amp, how much volume were you dialing in?
That's one MEAN sounding guitar............... scary!
Absolute last guitar I would grab to test a Super Reverb, but anyway.....
Having played it, how do you think it compares to a bassman from the same era?
Okay at 3:44 there's a cat in the room,,I heard it
😆
Had a late 70s Twin in the late 80s - early 90s...loud and good tone, but too punchy for metal...sold it & got my 1st Marshall in 95.
So this makes 4 fender amps I'd love to own....
Will never understand why folks prefer the Deluxe Reverb over the Super Reverb or the Vibrolux.
Because of the volume and ease of breaking up and some like the 12 inch sound also. The super reverb in a small space or house will even be bordering on too loud with sparkling clean
