Newcastle totally sat off and let Man Utd have the ball second half, their job was done in 20 minutes or the first half, they just preserved their energy and sat back second half to protect their lead. Outstanding game management from Howe.👏🏼
Probably the biggest put down and embarrassment about the whole situation. Howe and Newcastle never remotely felt like there was a chance of United coming back into the game. To the extent that after half an hour they were already looking to their next game, managing and keeping United at arms length and taking players off in the second half.

Die hard Newcastle fan here and honestly couldn’t believe what I was watching in that first half.. all I can say is if you guys play like you did in that first half there is going to be a lot more pain down the line. I’m in my mid 30’s and have never seen such a poor Man Utd team as I have tonight. Mainoo is your future only 19 and a shame he’s in such a car wreck of a team but he is real quality
He doesn’t have the work rate/legs for a high intensity team. He’ll do ok elsewhere in a less physically demanding system, but not in a Liverpool system, a City system, and of course what Amorim wants to play.
@ take him. He’s technically decent on the ball, but he doesn’t have the defensive work rate or speed, not good when your a team getting transitioned on. It’s horses for courses, just because someone is a decent player in one system, doesn’t mean they will be in another system. I’m not being oblivious to this stuff just because he’s an academy player for years like we were with Rashford and Lingaard, need to judge them to the same standard. If ‘he’s only 19’ then why is he trying to get a bumper contract literally right now? This is literally the sort of stuff the club has messed up with over the years. Its never was simple as ‘he’s a decent player’.
West Ham fan here..the parallels with us are unreal…nothing in the middle of the park…every team needs a pair of athletes in the middle who can put it about a bit…we have a few slow, lumbering lumps in the middle…lose the battle every week and we pay the price And the system…we don’t have the players to fit the system the manager wants to play.. Damage limitation for you lot this season, get it done, weed out the shit, and get the players in that your manager needs and you will be a different side next season
People in the club are losing their jobs just before Christmas and at the same time club paying that group of "players" 200 million per year.... Shocking! Players must take their responsibility for this.
Tony has seen it all. You get it ! We’re old school. We knew there were seats at the back of the Stretford and what the United Road meant. No shame with this squad.
One to blame. Just one: Jim Ratcliffe. Simple as that. Re-sign ETH only to fire him 3 months later. Purchase NUFC TD only to fire him 5/6 months later. Not letting RvN, who thank God was winning (imagine us without those points), finish the season. Want Ruben? Ok let him come when he can get some work in during the Summer… now he lost the locker room as well. Jim Ratcliffe has made a huge mess of this wonderful football club. I am going to leave out the ticket prices and the horrible decisions regarding ex players and current staff. As a former football executive, I can tell you people like Jim will ruin every club. They have no empathy for the culture of the club or those who are truly important and those who are just people passing by… you see them everywhere… Jim is there for his ego and notararity, he could give a rats a$$ about MUFC

I think Amorim knows but he has to convince Ineos and the board the players they signed like Zirkzee are poor and need to go. He needs reinforcements quickly and maybe wanted to showcase this before the transfer window.

The main problem with the squad is that none of those players in the squad are naturally gifted. Every time a player gets the ball, the opponents know what will happen next. None of our midfielders can get the ball, turn, and dribble and do something that makes sense. Each time they get the ball, they pass it anywhere their nose is. None of the players can tackle, they're not smart, and their awareness is in the cemetery. I wish we had committed players. These players are just mercenaries.

"It's Van Gaal, It's Mourinho, It's Moyes, or any player, it's Casemiro, it's Zirkzee, it's Bruno, It's Rashford, etc, etc, etc..." Now go for instance to Madrid and ask fans what they think of Casemiro. The reaction would be 100% positive. Great player, one of the best, etc... How is that possible? Well I know, it's not the manager, it's not an individual player, there is something completely wrong at the club and it's fans. They want to buy success, and then claim the cup with mercenaries and think they did it themselves. It's the soullessness, the attitude without love that is at the club and it's fans that is the problem. Big money destroyed professional football in general, but it's nowhere so obvious as at MU.

I’m expecting a minimum of 20 league defeats and honestly the club deserves to go down, it will be a blessing actually, it’s the reset we need because I’m not seeing any urgency to change our fortunes the way Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal have shown. Get relegated and weed out the overpaid and underperforming mediocrity and play the academy plus some smart purchases of players who want to fight for the badge. Build a winning mentality against weaker opposition and win the championship. Clubs in the toilet right now.
Also hope this reset weeds out all the glory hunters who can’t get behind the team when needed , they find their voices when booing Zerkzee but generally just sit there expecting OUR average team to entertain them, we need our 12th man right now and loyal supporters.
Mag here and always like to see the opposition view of the match. Respect for an honest and genuine review of the game from a proper fan. My personal view of Man U is that the whole structure of the club has changed. Back in the day Man U didn't pay the highest wages because the players were there for the kudos of playing for such a great team. The players now are on crazy money and only signed for ££ not the club the of old ..having players who dont buy into the club are useless no matter how much they earn. No manager can change the culture there in the short term!
Tony, I fully agree with your comments. I was 14 when we were relegated in 1974 and as a young lad that was difficult to accept. The current rubbish is actually much worse and I can’t see it getting better for some time and may as well have thrown my season ticket money down a drain!
@ his behaviour over the whole Ashworth saga should be a warning to Man u fans. He clearly doesn't have a clue about how to run a club. We had a similar issue where Ashley kept stating the previous owners shafted him - when he hadn't done basic DD to assess the debt position of the club. And then once the fans turned on him he became bitter and basically was happy to let the club stagnate. So many warning signs here. Just Ask Rangers fans where Ashley only had a 10% holding and still shafted the club and fans.
Relegation is the big reset Utd needs. The Glazers deserve everything they get. The fanbase is too weak to protest enough by boycotting matches, if it was Barca or Madrid the stadiums would be empty until they get what they want. Ruben is not good enough for the PL, neither are the players. It’s not going to turn around. We all know this. Go down, we can only rely on the players to hurt the Glazers. INEOS are in a mess. The away games would be great for the fans in the Championship, the tourists would stop getting tickets so there will be a spare here and there for the lads again.
Amorim's pick for the 1st half was puzzling and we looked like deers in headlights... Eriksen and Casemiro in midfield with Zirkzee ahead of them was never going to quell the marauding North Easterners and we were lucky not to be 4 or 5 goals in arrears. The first 30 minutes was a new low in a season of new lows (I was sure we were playing with 10 men such was the battering we took.) Amorim made changes and Mainoo's inclusion steadied the rocking ship and on another luckier day we could have found ourselves at 2-2 with a couple of decent chances for Hojlund and Casemiro. Second half we competed but our issue for 2 seasons has been scoring goals. Amorim must pick his best and strongest team to start and not leave us chasing lost causes. Today could have been a 6 goal drubbing by the Geordies. Lets use the 2nd half performance to kick start our season and what better way than to shock Liverpool away? Lol We can but dream. I feel like Man U and Ajax Amsterdam went through the exact same thing. Rested on their laurels while football was getting more professional, went into a downward spiral, wage budget got out of control, players got into the habit of waiting out failing a manager, now every manager fails. Ajax seems a season ahead, they looked in actual danger of relegating last year and are getting their shit together now. I'm a fan of neither team but both clubs are a fascinating watch rn
At the end of the day we were playing in a back 4 under Erik, conceding less goals and creating 10x the chances that we are now. If Amorim is so good then why can’t he come in like Erik did and hit the ground running in the same way. Not to mention the fact he doesn’t seem to rate Mainoo or Garnacho who were exceptional at times under Erik. All we had to do was hold out for the goals to start going in under Erik and instead we’ve bottled it and now we’re playing a back 5 with a manager thats learning about his squad half way through a season. The only reason I can think they didn’t give Erik till the end of the season is because they thought he was going to be successful again come the end of the season and they secretly didn’t want him. Either way it was a brain dead decision and were now exactly where I thought we would be.
I thought the same when he was sacked. Games against palace and West Ham we looked deadly out the blocks, just couldn’t finish. But we were playing football. Once ugarte had been match fit for ETH we would have been some team.
@ I agree and again the fact that Ugarte was such a key position to get sorted for this season yet they didn’t get him in for Erik till very late in the window is also very poor from INEOS. How did they not see we were playing well whilst new singings were still getting up to speed and we’d of become stronger as the season went on.
Last time we were relegated it was fun for the fans and the feel of the club was, let’s get our arses out of this. Keep the players with that mentality and bin the rest!
Fair play to the review and the vast majority of the comments. Lots of people talking rubbish or trying to wind people up about how Man Utd controlled the 2nd half because we never had a shot on goal but as you’ve said we just contained you as we never had to push for more goals. Great game management by Howe and the players
The only uplifting moment was listening to the pre match singing. As long as we can still sing this way, even if we are eventually relegated, there will always be a seed that can regrow, there will always be a Manchester United! Keep singing lads!
Is that the Tony O’Neil of the Red Army and Men in Black? I’m not a Man U fan but I have read his books. Thats a pretty good match summary. He is spot on.
I don't think Zirkzee was being booed, I think they were booing the situation Zirkzee was put in, Amorin messed up and should have started Mainoo, every Utd fan knows it, thats what it was about
Tony spot on as usual. We get outfought, outworked, outrun week in week out. This is 20 years of Glazer mismanagement home to roost. Poor recruitment, no direction, too many square pegs in round holes and above all else, too many not suited to the pace, hard work and physicality of the premier league. Could easily see 6 plus players moved on and we’ve somehow got to replace them and build upon the squad. Monumental work ahead for us as a club.
Imagine English teacher asking a class of kids how to describe Man Utd now? They would soon come up with all the negative adjectives and words in the English languages. If they talk like Mark Goldbridge, poor teacher would faint!
Goldbridge is a dick. No respect for people who don't go to the games. How can you have an opinion if you don't support your team. Watching online and slagging the players off is poor. Spend your money supporting your team then your opinion is worth something
I've been a fan for over 60 years. That first half against Newcastle was an embarrasment. I'm dreading the Liverpool game. We need amirical. Come on United.
You're looking for excuses not to bash Amorim! That's ridiculous, he sent this team onto the field, a weak midfield, De Ligt not central, Amad doesn't know where to go. Two old men in midfield, that's not possible! Once again the system is flawed, fine in Portugal, but the system doesn't work here, you just have to be honest. If you're all happy with it, fine, but then you shouldn't complain about losing almost every match. Amorim has made the players insecure with his system, and you can certainly blame him for that.
Totally agree, does not work with this group,i understand this is not his team and he only arrived at awkward time in the season but now amorim said he won't change his system even in a relegation battle, surely as a manager you must change systems playing against certain teams and play your best 11 to try and stay in the league, i wasn't a fan of ten hag but some of the players played better than they are now for hag, they are collapsing under amorim by the looks of things

He doesn’t have the work rate/legs for a high intensity team. He’ll do ok elsewhere in a less physically demanding system, but not in a Liverpool system, a City system, and of course what Amorim wants to play.
@@wr9209 he's 19 and your saying he doesn't have the work rate or legs? wow. i'd take him at Newcastle in a heartbeat!

It’s horses for courses, just because someone is a decent player in one system, doesn’t mean they will be in another system. I’m not being oblivious to this stuff just because he’s an academy player for years like we were with Rashford and Lingaard, need to judge them to the same standard. Only looking backward in time....they are the most experienced and skilled passers in the squad....we could have picked a different team and the score would have been 0-3....then that would have been the wrong decision too
I think Amorim knows but he has to convince Ineos and the board the players they signed like Zirkzee are poor and need to go. He needs reinforcements quickly and maybe wanted to showcase this before the transfer window.
@nota8386 you forgot garnacho
@nota8386 Who would you've played? Casemiro is our only 6 when Ugarte is out, Mainoo was poor against Wolves, Collier is a kid, Mount is injured, and the manager explained to you why he started Zirkzee. It's easy to play Captain hindsight

Stop living in the past 12 years since u won the premiership league and all other clubs have more money 💰 now it’s over now and it’s Liverpool turn ha great news 🗞️ and delusional fans 😊
Why why why do United think their midfield isn’t much worse than most PL sides? Why are they constantly surprised?
V worrying times , can’t score a goal and don’t look like scoring… we are in deep shit , players look like they’ve given up
Same age group as Tony, his comments are so right. I am scared we could go down , I remember 72/3 and 73/4 went to all home games and about 10 away ones each season, we all thought and so did the pundits, we we were too good to go down Difference is now that we think we are so poor, believe me it can happen, away draws are no good now we need to win and win soon. Keep the faith red fans.
Honestly looking at the fixtures the only hope is we can beat Southampton
What was happening in the 70s and 80s in football?
I'm a liverpool fan. i agree ManU should blood the youngsters and get loan players. As they will be more hungry for the ball and opportunity. ManU first half was quite pitiful. I've no sympathy for these PROFESSIONALS. Ultimate embarrasement and disgrace is for ManU to be relegated. Your coach knows what he was getting into. Spend the rest of the season staying above relegation but playing around with the lineups. Write it off!!!
great ramble.
its happening everywhere in the prem .
Clubs dnt give a toss for true fans .
they get the dosh of the tv rights and shit on the fans that make thee atmosphe and follow their clubs everywhere
Who picked the team .our midfield looked like a oap care home .who the fk signed zirkzee OMG
Total truth there Tony we want 10 players good one's proud to were the shirt, year's ago they would have walked to old Trafford to play for utd, we're a disgrace, amorin should have said before he came,I want players to replace this crap we've got great vid again lads
It’s questionable whether Bruno coming back for the Liverpool game might mean he suddenly gets a mystery illness or injury . His arms will be up more in the 90 mins than the ball at his feet that game !!LFC will probably put Man U to the sword !
