    Hearing Zirzkee being booed off was the most embarassed I've been as a match-going Red in a long time. And don't get me wrong -- I'm hardly a bleeding heart; by all means boo the entire squad after losing 7-0 to Liverpool. But booing an individual kid in his first season who has no support and has had to adapt to two different managers/systems already is just utterly pathetic. I can (barely) tolerate how rotten this club has come but if the fans are going to start behaving like that...I can't stomach that. That is the true death of the club.

      I would have no problem with fans booing Rashford for the interview he gave after being dropped for the first time. What a soft-ass bullshitter he is. But booing Zirkzee seemed a little harsh. Anyway, I think the fans were generally feeling disgusted at the state of the club and squad and took it out on Zirkzee (who has been terrible it must be said...lets not pretend otherwise)

    Zirkzee had a terrible afternoon and bringing him off was 100% the correct decision by Amorim. However, booing an individual as he comes off is wrong. I have no problem if after the final whistle the fans want to cheer or boo the players as a whole then fair enough, but we are NOT Liverpool, we DON'T boo players like they did with McManaman, Owen, Diouf etc. Although we're extremely poor atm, as a fanbase we're better than that. @@Ligerpride Maybe the manager did consider that but decided against it? We just don't know. The key factor here though is that it's down to the 11 on the pitch to give 100% and try and do their bit to influence the game. If you have a player who is consistently giving the ball away when in good positions, you have a decision to make. I watched it live and I was shouting for Amorim to get him off. Whatever issues he had he was simply miles off the pace and that's not always the manager's fault. IF Zirkzee or any of them want to become top players they need to look at themselves first and ask themselves what can they do differently, to help their team mates! GGMU.

    I have to say Andy you are probably the only journalist/commentator I want to listen to.
    And I really hope you read this and say something about it. I think the reason why United players cant perform is due to the non stop scrutiny of players and managers by media and pundits. Ive been a fan for 44 years (since I was 6 years old) and I love all our former players. I love Keano Neville Scholesy Rio Owen and lot. But do you see any other clubs former players giving their former clubs players a hard time. I never see Ian Wright criticizing arsenal excessively, I never see Lamps, Terry Drogba criticizing Chelsea. Or Carra criticizing liverpool players. We live in a time when most of our players are from Gen Z ..all they know is social media. Gen Z cant handle criticism well .. as in any job we all know that. Its easy for Roy to say in our time .. but im from that generation. It was different. We get scolded or shouted at and we buckle down and get on with it. This generation cant take those criticisms. So they cant handle all this media hype. Every other person is a man utd pundit on tv, on youtube etc. So can everybody just shut up and let our players and manager and club get on with it. Except for Andy Mitten. So Andy please say something about this ..

      This is true, but I can assure you the criticism you get at big foreign clubs is as big if not bigger (just listen to Pep on this issue). I follow Portuguese football a bit and it's a madhouse. For example, at Amorim's ex-club, the fans literally invaded the dressing room and beat up the players and coach at the instigation of the owner. Makes United look almost normal..

    • @brianhyland3021

      We don’t see other x players criticising their teams because their teams are doing well. It’s the modern world where every single small detail is scrutinized. If we play well/win it’s discussed exactly the same way if we lose. It’s tough right now for us but we can’t moan about media or x players. They have to be honest- and they are cause we are absolute rubbish right now. However, it will change- I’ve no idea when but it will. Look at city, nobody would have forecast that 4months ago. And as good as Arsenal are they don’t win anything- always fall short in the league. Chelsea- a lot of people talking about them challenging- look at their last 2 results. They’ve no chance now. Things change, and they will for Utd.

      Completely agree with the original post. In an ideal world we want Gen Zers to toughen up and face the hard truth. But let’s be real. That ain’t happening. When the going gets tough, most can’t perform, blame others or just don’t care. That sums up our players and as much as we love our ex legends, they need to realize they are part of the problem with their excessive criticism. Chelsea were crap under potter lamps and most of the season under poch. Did we hear JT lamps drogba slaughter them? No. When Arsenal were crap under emery and artetas initial years, did Ian Wright or any of the invincibles slaughter them? No. Klopp had a few dodgy seasons but did carra Stevie g slam them? No.

    Martinez was very loyal to ETH as are those who have followed him and joined this season. They are shell shocked by the stupidity of INEOS. They bought into ETH’s style of play. Then he gets sacked. At the worse time. New guy comes in pushing a new system without time to train it. As a player… you just think the decision makers above are idiots. Especially when we go a full year without a fit left back in the side. Plus it makes Dalot appear poor because he’s playing out of position. Confuses. Demotivates. Evidences in the results. I don’t agree the players are poor. They’re getting messed about.

      Good point I agree. I suspect the reason Ashworth was sacked is due to differences of oppiniom with him saying something like what you're saying about putting faith in the project which we were building with the manager whose been involved in recruitment, instead of changing mid-stream.
      I recogn INEOS will have pressed him for quick-fix solutions and he will have suggested some unpopular managers who he (rightly) thinks suits the squad we have at the moment, but INEOS were of the opinion that they suited a 343 and somehow thinking that you can just bring in a "style of play" from a proper club just by pinching their manager.
      Now they're probably shocked that they are struggling even more learning a new system mid-season. Meanwhile ETH and Ashworth look like they knew football more than INEOS and their "best in class" experts.

    • @stevejohnson170
      @stevejohnson170 Месяц назад

      @@Ligerpride he’s not had a decent left back to support him… which takes him out of position. He’s been let down more than anyone and I don’t think a back 3 suits him at all. He won the World Cup with Argentina. The team didn’t carry him… he’s top drawer and plays with Roy Keane like passion. Just not at present because he’s lost the manager who brought him and is now in a system that leaves him exposed. Of course he’ll leave if Amorim stays. Most likely is they’ll both go. Once the crescendo of criticism gets onto the back of a manager, at such a high profile club… you’ve forever got a target on your back. The media love it…
      The worse part is Utd don’t have the money (new stadium plans, fair play rules, higher wages than average, lower income than ‘usual’, less sponsorship monies, incoming fees for new management (and aborted costs when they exit)). Glazers still there. INEOS decision making…??

    100% agree with Andy's point on the Zirkzee issue. What possible good can it do to destroy any players confidence? Players need confidence for form, if their form isn't good then we lose. If they arent good enough, let the management move them on without destroying their transfer value even further.
    Any fan who thinks otherwise needs to get a dictionary and check what the words UNITED and SUPPORTER mean.
    Our job is to support our team. To do our best to give the lads energy, to make them know that we are one. Once a player puts on the shirt we expect them to give their all, us supporters should do the same. If they arent doing their job on the pitch, let Amorim sort it out. If you wear the United badge in the stands, do your job and roar all of our boys on. Through thick or thin keep the red flag flying high, united will never die. Live it.

    Unfortunately, it now looks like Amorim is a worse manager than Ten hag. The results don't lie, getting worse every week and he admitted last night he only has one system that he can play. 2 wins in 8 PL games is catastrophic form, and it's only going one way.

    • @ArthurRoss-r9r
      @ArthurRoss-r9r Месяц назад

      He's clearly not worse than his predecessor. There is obvious evidence of a structure being put in place and coaching being done (which wasn't evident under Ten Hag). With so many games, there has not been much time to practice these set ups in training. I said, after the FA Cup, that Ten Hag should have been sacked. Defeating a hungover City changed nothing, in my view. To keep him on AND give him a 12 month extension was nothing short of ludicrous. Not only did it deny his inevitable replacement both a pre season and the opportunity to influence player recruitment but it, also, reduced what little cash was available with even more compensation due. Ineos were supposed to bring in the football knowledge and support that had never been there under just the Glazers. They, too, have been found wanting, massively.

Apparently all insults and rumours and accusations about players and their " lifestyles " is ok and circulating such unsubstantiated and uncredited rumour is an acceptable way to earn a living , while maintaining a privileged position around the club. By now it kinda feels it hard to tell who is and is not an independent voice . For now it is ok to blame individual players .The off field tragedy which is darker than the onfield performances in which 100s have been sacked ,charity funds cut, price rises imposed, club legends cut adrift and even Christmas bonuses cut . Standards we are told are what are important to the success of the club are these the standards .
    At times it seems ,just like when the parasitic worm that eventually gains control of the host animal the online commentators and opinions have taken hold of the life force of the club and that essence has become septic , putrid and rotten. We should all look to our own part in this fiasco noone is clean when shit is hurled around.

    If Man Utds leadership feels buyers remorse thats on them - Amorim has been open about how he wanted to play from the beginning. He's a good coach - things have fallen apart at Sporting and his replacement has already been sacked.
    Switching system midway through the season would always negatively affect performances. But Amorim is not responsible for the catalogue of costly individual errors probably less so set pieces which are being exploited. Ugarte and Bruno missing clearly affected us.

      Often in football when you think I don’t agree with that sacking or that sacking often it turns out to be the right decision as the judgement is a lot more holistic in terms of how the manager is day to day, man management skills, does he get on with staff in general and have the ability to bind a culture, can he manage down as well as up, is he the first to arrive and the last to leave, what do the players really think about him inside the club once all the socials and cameras are out of the way, how does he approach time keeping, discipline, nutrition, does he put his ideas across in ways in which players can understand and a that they actually believe in etc etc. As fans you hardly see any of all of this other stuff and that’s one of the reasons it’s so hard to understand at the time why a manager has gone. Mazraoui better at RCB and looks majorly out of his depth at RWB. Add to that Dalot at LWB and it’s a disaster, time to put Amad back to RWB as he wants to be wide anyway. Can’t be playing two fullbacks in those roles as we can’t get up the pitch. Best performances have come with Amad at RWB but people just remember the little moments at City and think he has to be a #10 now.
    Ugarte and Mainoo have to be the two midfielders going forward and regularly, yes Ugarte was missing last night but it’s suicidal putting Eriksen and Casemiro together.
    Bruno will always play and likely at #10, so he needs legs and a runner next to him on the right, as Dalot on the left side means the left #10 has to be someone wanting to run in behind and to the byline, not another Bruno type player who wants in the pocket, as Dalot just hesitates before going forward and loads of space to attack.
    Got to back the manager, as not one of these are his players, but he’s also got to start making sensible decisions now. We can all see what works and who doesn’t, so time for trialing them has gone, they’ve had their chance.

Dalot is a RIGHT back, Case & Eriksen need more MF support and the only attackers we had that were feared were Garnacho & Rashord. Hoijund & Zirkzee are never will be's.

    You cant copy paste a playing style to the Premier League unless you can spend without a maximum. United need to have their own style, and tell the manager how to play.

I’m pretty sure the Newcastle fans would’ve been happily joining in too. There’s also a video of the manager and players being cheered off and serenaded by the Stretford end as they walked off at the end of the game. Any thoughts on that?

    andy, we all hate the cuts. but the reality of psr is that balance sheets count. united are the only team in the premier league whose accounts are totally transparent so their balance sheet has to be actually truthful. there is a lot or room for creative accounting if your accounts are not going to the united states securities and exchange commission.

    Midfield overrun and it was totally predictable. Are we sure 343 will work? Ruben needs time and more suitable players so we can’t panic but I’d be happier with 2 CDMs or we just get overrun. After the next 2 games we have a decent run of winnable fixtures. By March things will be clearer where we are. Keep the faith and support the team

    United have to sell to buy in January with several players obviously not fitting Amorim's system and with the 2 biggest earners Rashford and Casemiro the obvious ones to get off the wage bills asap. Zirkzee and Garnacho should also be considered. I know United won't get their value when selling because of their wages and maybe have to loan to buy players instead of buying but it's more important to reinforce the team now than keeping more or less unusable players on high wages. If not United could easily be in a relegation battle soon but on the other hand doing business might be enough to win United the Europa League trophy and a Champion's league spot. Anyway, 2024 was terrible so let's hope for a much better 2025 for United. Happy New Year!

    I'm a supporter of Amorim and I think he'll prove himself to be a good and successful manager for the club in the future. This time however I thought he contributed to the defeat in a very significant way by selecting the wrong mix of players. Our backline and midfield are dreadfully slow, which is why Newcastle ran rings around us for the first half an hour. That was an embarrassing performance and we could have been 4 down within that time. Kobbie coming on made a huge difference and I actually thought we were slightly the better team after that, although Newcastle dropping off in intensity probably contributed to that. Martinez has become a liability. He specialises in dumb fouls, yellow cards and not marking up properly. He is also exposed when crosses come in. Zirkzee is just a waste of space and is living up to my extremely low expectations when United was first linked to him. I couldn't believe that United would spend ANY money on getting him. We missed 4 very good chances and if any of those go in the game could have become very interesting again. Unfortunately we couldn't even hit the target with any of them. We can now get ready for another flogging by Liverpool.

    One thing I've noticed is the non-stop media commitments Amorim has had since taking charge. How many interviews has the man had?! The circus around united is nothing new, but surely the hierarchy has to take steps to protect the managers time, if anything else. How are you supposed to get things done if media takes precedence over planning and training?
