Brass is better! Charles, I am with you 100% on the classic look and feel of items made from brass. This bad boy will outlast us. It will likely develop a nice patina and our descendants might sell the old "antique" for many times what we paid for it. On the practical side, there are no batteries to self-discharge in storage, and no circuit boards to fry in a man-made or natural EMP event. The fuel is renewable for those who know how. The candles do double duty to toast stubborn kindling into action. I will take that any day as opposed to cracking a bulb from your flashlight to start a fire with the filament. The flashlight bulb trick is a one-shot, one-fire deal. That is why many of us pack a tea light, birthday, or another small candle in our small kits. The UCO lantern or homemade copy is a winner in my book. Great video man.

@@charlesartificer2158 Yes, it is 02:30 as I type this reply. I do not want to disturb my "pattern" on weekends. My "retirement career" is trading the US stock and options markets. I take some rest in the late afternoon time and generally wake up between 8:00 to 8:30 PM to look over the premarket and plan what I may do for the night and scan for new trades. If needed, I brew up some Whicked Blends coffee to get the blood moving. In the summertime, we have a twelve (12-hour time difference with the US east coast. That changes one hour in the winter when US clocks change. We are over the international date line so we start the new week way ahead of the pack. We are literally on the other side of the earth from my original home base.
Good review.The way I clean mine is simply take apart lantern an put items into pot of hot water.The wax melts and flats to the top where you can skim the wax with a spoon, let dry and wipe down as normal and reassemble😊
I have one I bought in early 1980s. Also got the oil lamp insert. I like it and stays in an emergency kit in my car. I find it a bit heavy for backpacking camping. There I use the Uco mini and the Uco Lechsi single AA battery combination flashlight and area light. Peace
@@charlesartificer2158 you can get the ones for laboratory, they fit just look at the measurements, when you’re done just take the insert out and put the cap on ( doesn’t fit with the cap) but the good part is that the liquid inside will not evaporate, specially since I use 96% alcohol because I burn inside sometimes and don’t want toxic fumes. The insert has silicone inside the cap preventing it from evaporating. I still like the tea candle ones better though.
I've wanted a brass one of these for along time too. I finally bit the bullet and ordered it. Should be here in the next 18 hours, not that I'm counting or anything. I have an older model in red that I've loved. I noticed the sticker was different and just says Candle Lantern on it. Wait... I know it's a UCO. On the bottom cover it says made in USA, UCO Inc. Redmond WA. I guess I'll find out if the quality is the same. I really enjoy this thing and use it camping and during power outages. Just can't beat old school tech in the long run. The new Chinese ones are not quality like the American ones. I tried several and found the spring too weak to continiously push the candle up. Oh well, I have pleantly of the vintage ones.
The outer body is brass. The inner peace that holds the candle is aluminum. The top plate and the handle is stainless steel. I hope that clears this up. Thanks for commenting I hope you stick around and have a great night.

Plus the retainer that holds the candle is a slightly different shape.
