  • It's December 7 (ish, depending where you are), the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbour. Good opportunity (thanks, comments) to review one of the more unfortunate ships in port that day.

    My first premium ship ever obtained in Blitz! It was a major jump from a teir 4 cruiser to a teir 6 battleship. Arizona was the main reason I kept playing the game all those years ago.
    Arizona and Utah are still at the bottom of Pearl Harbor.

    Thank you Terry. I appreciate the review as a commentating thing to Pearl Harbor. I personally like the Arizona but the thing that kills me is the speed. It’s hard to ddodge torpedoes. BTW that person who said in the comments we should do this was me

      I generally remember that someone mentioned something, but not who it was :) My pleasure.
      It's certainly easier to dodge torps in a NM, but it's not impossible. T6 can still be pretty lenient in terms of enemy DD skill. Although I did get a bit lucky with some of my dodges :)

      That’s true…I kinda play her as you’d play a Colorado. Just be a sniper and when the time is right, for me typically with no DDS, that’s when I enter battering ram mode and clear a path for my team

    I haven’t been to the memorial but apparently you can still see to this day, oil leaking out of the wreckage. Still I would like the see her as well as the Missouri and the sub that is stationed there (that I can’t remember the name )
    Oh and at 9:36 don’t worry if there are some bots in the matchmaker, some players just behave similarly to them :D

      At 1:53, there appears to be an oil slick emanating from just above the Arizona wreck and heading towards the shore.

    What’s funny is when watching a match those consumables, perks and guns reload a hell of a lot faster then they do while actually playing the game. Lol guess it’s the stress that makes it seem longer.

    • @FunandGameswithTerry
      @FunandGameswithTerry  2 года назад

      yes, but the consumables are also the same for everyone, so in the end, the difference is still there. I think in terms of total salvos it doesn't make a great difference, but it's the situational factor. A faster reload on a BB for me isn't so much about getting more shots off, but having the guns reloaded when I need them to be, to take advantage of opportunities, or defend against enemy ships. With a slow reload, you've got to be a lot more calculating.

    Yeah I tend to treat USN BBs up to t7 as really angry Islands.

    • @HighlanderNorth1

      Yeah, and you definitely don't want to take your cruisers out on fishing trips anywhere near those "angry islands". Chances are you'll soon be swimming. Just cast from afar!

    Good review Terry. Arizona definitely had a storied history and a tragic end. When I first got her I too noticed that she isn’t quite as good as the New Mexico. She has the exact same 14 inch guns as the preceding New York and Nevada classes but has twelve of them instead of ten. Overall she is a good ship but definitely not great one.

      @@jcwoodman5285 I own the Warspite and I can say that it is one powerful reliable ship. It’s AP hits really hard, it’s very manoeuvrable so you can dodge torps easily. I took advantage of its turning time to dodge shells by firing onto the enemy ship and turning perpendicularly to avoid showing broadside, then I turn back parallelly with the enemy ship to unleash its power then repeat. With this you can counter tier 7s but it does suffer against German bbs especially scharnhorsts.

    When I do play at tier 6, I play Prinz Eitel. I dread seeing Arizona in a match against me. I know the protection stats are the same with NM, but Arizona is a harder kill then NM. NM is tanky, but Arizona is a harder kill with Eitel.

    • @FunandGameswithTerry

      The stats we can see may not be 100% of the stats that are in effect. I don't really see Arizonas all that often in battle, hard to tell if they're tankier than NM.

    0:44 is partially inaccurate. The arizona was built before the New Mexico and 356mm is 14” not 15”. Not intending to be offensive in any way.

    • @FunandGameswithTerry
      @FunandGameswithTerry  2 года назад

      Yep, 14 inch - 356mm, 15 would be 380, 16 = 406, and 305 would be ... 12? I think. Inches are hard.

    I wonder if the modern Mk.84 bomb were the same weight as the IJN 16" AP shell that sunk the Arizona.
    Can you share some light for us mate? Anyone?

    • @FunandGameswithTerry
      @FunandGameswithTerry  2 года назад +1

      According to what I found about the type 99 (the converted Nagato shell), it weighed between 744 and 796kg (depending on if you counted the tail fins or not), and would carry 66 pounds / 30kg of trinitroanisol as a payload.
      The BLU 117 (Mk. 84) weighs, depending on configuration, between 894 and 945kg, but carries a whopping 945lb / 429kg of explosives. So while the Nagato shells were in a similar ballpark weight-wise, the more modern gravity bomb carries about 15x as much explosive (just mass, not accounting for improved material). The type 99 was certainly heavy enough though to punch right through the armoured deck plating, and blow up in or near the magazine, and it's the secondary explosions that took out the Arizona.

    • @FunandGameswithTerry
      @FunandGameswithTerry  2 года назад +2

      another interesting side note, the Japanese actually removed the penetrator cap from the AP shell during bomb conversion. You can imagine the power these shells had, if a ship like Nagato could have brought them on target.

    • @hansenkho3835
      @hansenkho3835 2 года назад

      Wow, that mean the MK84 still far heavier, since it almost close to the weight of American 16 inch HE shell for both the Mk.6 and Mk.7 gun (since their AP weight were more heavier a bit than the bomb itself).
      Anyway, nice review and answer mate, its always fascinating to have some knowledge from you. Thanks very much

      I'm using bot games for footage nowadays, just don't really have a choice. Hopefully they'll fix it at some point - the old MM was also erring on the long side sometimes, I've had games where I had to way in excess of 3m to play for 7m, and still ended up with bots. We need something in the middle :)

  • @HighlanderNorth1
    @HighlanderNorth1 2 года назад

    I almost bought Arizone during the recent sale. Glad i didnt. There's nothing more frustrating than taking out a SLOW mid tier battleship, with competent teammates in MUCH faster ships cruising way ahead of you, who are able to quickly delete the 1-2 enemy ships they run into, but before you can get in range of accurate fire. Then they flex to the next area of the map that's still occupied by enemy ships, as you SLOWLY try to catch up(while subconsciously yelling at your ship, "come on, get there already").
    But alas, the game ends and all enemy ships are killed while you're still playing catchup. You finish with 6,200 damage and 0 kills. That's why out of my 53 ships, only 1 is an American battleship(North Carolina). But I've got 5 French battleships, Dunkerque and all tier 7-10 tech tree BBs.

    • @FunandGameswithTerry
      @FunandGameswithTerry  2 года назад

      There's a way to play the slow BBs - effectively, you need to pick a position that allows you to cover the important angles without having to move a lot.

    • @HighlanderNorth1

      @@FunandGameswithTerry
      Yeah, being stuck desperately trying to catch up with the action in a slow American(or British) mid tier battleship isnt extremely common. But when it happens, its usually in one of those large domination maps with 4 bases in a square pattern, where the teams spawn split up in in 2 groups on either side, and you start out heading straight to the base directly in front of you.
