The saddest thing for me has been surviving a near point of dying back in 2010 and then becoming a 'long-term non progressor'. I survived and everyone would tell me how lucky I am for that... And I have come to appreciate surviving beyond that point where I had accepted I wasn't going to survive. It's an odd thing when you keep living when you weren't supposed to...
And when I say sad what I mean specifically is that it is sad knowing that I lived while may others have not. Even in these modern days of medicine I have known many that didn't make it. And scientists keep making the same medicine over and over and over again and nobody cares about studying the non-progressors. Do you know how depressing that is that the doctors scientist s don't care to study the anomalies. The individuals that survive without medicine the doctors don't care to look into their bio and figure out why some live and some don't. That's what has been the saddest thing of all this...

I’m watching this four years after it was made and I am in a bit of shock. She’s talking about me everything she saying,,It’s all hit me like a Ton of bricks. I guess because I thought I was the only one of the long termers who struggle. I am 60 years old and I have had aids all my adult life. I’m finding it hard to believe that there’s actually people out there that know what I’ve been through and what I’m going through. I guess that’s all I can say for right now.

Apart from people with HIV. They need a platform for people who are affected, dealing with loved ones who are positive. Stigma is not our problem, alot of the time its coping with our loved ones and the pressures therein. Most of us are burdened by the pressure to love them which we may or may not do. Nonetheless they add to the challenges we face with them by compounding other issues and blaming it on the disease.

What's scary to me is having to take a pill every day to stay alive. What's scary to me is being reminded that I have it. That would no doubt cause psychological struggles.

Maybe I missed something but I really didn't get your talk at all I thought it was supposed to be aimed at people that have been as a term long-term survivors like myself I was diagnosed in 1997 but probably contracted HIV in 1986 it has been a very difficult journey but I managed to change my life around and also saved my life but it has come with the price as a consequence of taking early medication I have chronic lipodystrophy which I find Almost unbearable to look at and live with yeah I think the news all round is great for people these days with HIV but I do feel that people like myself I've been overlooked and just pushed to one side as nobody wants to look at the negative side of the outcome I was taking some very toxic first medication drugs

Me too,have lived with the virus for 30 years now but i'm thankful for the meds despite side effects because when i tested positive early 90's no doctor wanted me around.meds weren't available and even purchasing some sustaining drugs was done as though "hiding".
I got used to be myself and love the meds.
My only wish then was to see my 2 kids grow(were less than 10 yrs then),today i got 4 grandchildren.

The meds are working the hardest thing is meeting new people that ask about you i just started getting social and i find myself wanting to just be alone the day before yesterday my Doctor took me too UCSF to speak too twenty med students. They wanted too know how i felt about my diagnosis it was hard and it brought back so much pain. Im now undetectable but im positive hiv i look foward too speaking again. I think the best thing for someone getting back out in the world is too introduce them too others with hiv so we can learn how too be social again and not being afraid too talk about our past it would make us feel more like survivors instead of the walking dead. Im not talking about these hiv women groups that ive been too its depressing. I would like too see people like me meeting up and going out and having some fun! I just havent found that yet. Maybe i can get something like that going because those groups feel like your sitting in AA depressing

I don't quite understand you're asking please help me someone please help me ok so you're HIV positive so ideally you should be getting support from your medical team and if I think it's appropriate you should start a course of medication which bus stop the virus from multiplying annual quality of life will improve I have been HIV since 1986 diagnosed in 1997 critically ill but I'm still here I take my medication devotedly everyday and yes I know it's not an ideal way to live but it keeps me alive fibrosis suggests that maybe you go and see a counsellor or psychologist to discuss the way you feel about your diagnosis as I feel this will help if medication is offered please do not refuse it as it will prevent the virus from becoming fatal ok I hope this is made you feel a bit better and I wish you luck with that

Please do consult with SDA missionary worker around your area before taking those drugs. I am not taking Meds and opted to follow a healthy diet ever since I was diagnosed, a Gen 1:29 diet from God. God loves you don't worry, Trust in Him only 😘

It doesn't need treatment because a retrovirus is not capable of causing a specific disease, and HIV can't kill T cells.

If your boyfriend's viral load been been undectable for straight 6 months then he can't transmit it to you sexually. You can read more about undectable = untransmitable.
But there's also a combination of drugs you can take to provide additional safety to you.

Good point. I have a feeling that with enough money (like magic Johnson has) or other low stress lifestyle that nurtures community bonds (such as living in a non cultish intentional community based on farming) that our body's immune system is less taxed and therefore able to allocate it's focus on the hiv. Stress affects our immune system strongly and sometimes we are quite stressed and don't realize it, because we are used to the sensations and it's our normal.

Justina Musyoka AIDS is not a virus it’s the medication for AIDS that causes your body to slowly die off because of the powerful chemicals, they eventually shut down your imune system. HIV itself exists but it is harmless. The HIV testing kit doesn’t even test for the virus itself, it tests for antibodies that could have been made by other viruses. There’s a documentary by Stephen Allen explaining all this and there are Phd medicine doctors attesting to this fact. It’s one of the biggest Big Pharma deceptions. The best treatment is to not take the drugs at all

@@oroboros4858 thank you,i appreciate that advice but i'm a long term Hiv survivor. This is my 30th year with the virus and the 9th on ARV's.
My first years were lived just as you explained,avoiding all medications except suppliments but after 20 years with Hiv,i felt my end had come,almost to be hit by stroke or paralysis,had bad headaches,and my body was itching .
When i started on ARV's some effects were restored and i feel relieved.Others like dizziness remained.
So,from that far i've gone i know if i stop meds ,my life will be over,though i am at peace with my days on earth ,no regrets.
If there was another option i would take but if its stopping medication,i know how the body weakens and its very bad.
