My 27mm F2.8 R WR lives on my X-T30 II full-time due to its versatility and size. But when I travel, I bring along my 16mm F2.8 R WR (wide/architecture/landscape) and my 50mm F2 R WR (focus/intimate/people shots). I find these 3 lenses allows me to capture 95% of whatever comes to my mind, while keeping my travel kit extremely small and light. I sold my X-T5 and picked up the X-T30 II specifically to keep my travel kit small and light.
Thanks. I just ordered the 27. Had the old one and sold it less than a yr ago. Had sellers remorse especially now that I'm traveling. I also think the 16 2.8 would be really good and am highly considering taking the 18-55. Do you like the 50 better than the 35 for the intimate people shots you mentioned?
I have kit lens 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0 and prime 35mm f/2.0. I tried bringing both lens on each travel, but finally I ended up only using the 18-55mm kit lens. It’s pretty compact, enough zoom range, and has descent low light performance and bokeh. Often when I travel, I want to take photos of my wife and child that also shows enough background. 35mm have larger background compression so not enough background showed. But sometimes I also want to zoom all the way in to 55m. So yeah, now I only bring my kit lens for travel.
My requirements for a good lens are that it‘s sharp in the middle wide open and across the frame when stopped down! And my copy of the 18-55 fulfilled these criteria at wide and tele ends!
I recently came back from a trip where I brought the 16mm 2.8 and 27mm 2.8 WR for a WR setup with my X-T5. I used the 16mm 99% of the time. It was just so fun to use. I was lucky to pick one up used in like new condition 4 hours before my flight.
Great minds think alike! ; ). Over my Fuji years (starting with the X100T, then the X-T30, more recentlly the X-T5) and a great deal of contemplation to come up with the perfect travel / everyday combination, I made the right buying decisions (mostly), for me. I started with the 35 1.4 and the 15-45 (as the X-T30 kit lens for just $50 extra). Now I carry the 15-45 as a backup spare lens, but have pretty much moved on from it. It's not a bad lens (nor great lens), practical, but just not fun to use. Its photos lack 'character', for lack of a better word. I bought the 35 1.4 prior to the 33 1.4 release and I have no regrets. I love that lens. Then I bought the 16 2.8. No regrets. I have the 55-200 for the rare times I need it but rarely carry it when traveling, unless it's appropriate. Too big and heavy. I made the mistake of buying the Viltrox 56 1.4. It's a good lens but never use it. Most recenly I bought the 23 2.0. It's a solid lens, a joy to use. I fell in love with the focal length using the X100T, which I still have. The only problem...it's a struggle to decide whether to attach the 35 or 23 when on the streets. So that's it. When traveling I carry the 16, 23, and 35 1.4. I wish there was a perfect zoom travel lens in the 16/18-55 range for those times I don't have time to change lenses. I was never excited about the current 18-55. Maybe version 2 will be more attractive. But then, I'd miss using my primes.
For me it's the 23mm f2. I have almost all the "must have for travel lenses" (ie 27mm f2.8, 18-55mm kitlens, 35mm f2) but ultimately if I had to pick one and one only it's always the 23mm f2.
I personally like the Zeiss Tout 32mm f1.8 and Fuji 16mm f2.8 with my Fuji X-S20. The Zeiss takes some stunning photos rich in character. The 16mm doesn’t disappoint. A truly a great travel combo.
I always have the 50-140mm on my travels. It is perfect for nearly everything. I also have the 27mm f2.8 on my X-Pro 3, which is very portable and discreet.
I would love to see a Mk ii of the 18mm F2 lens. I love how small the original is. And if they can just update it with weather sealing, and maybe better auto focus, it would be a perfect lens for me.
Thanks for sharing ! You help me a lot to find my first prime lens. I bought a xt5 with xf 18-55 but I felt in love with the rendering of the last xf 1.4 series. But I had to compose with my budget. So after some weeks of thinking, i sold the 18-50 and I bought a xf 33 and xf 16mmf28 to compose my kit, I think it will by a nice combo between quality and compactness
I found the 16mm too wide for my taste; I sold mine because I rarely used it. I use the Fuji 27mm pancake lens the most, it's so small and is great for all kinds of shooting, especially street photography. I also love vintage lenses and the whole process of manual focusing, it's such fun. I have a vintage Pentax 50mm f1.7; it is really sharp and I love the colour it produces (although I mostly shoot B&W); it's probably my favourite lens. I also picked up a mint vintage Minolta 58mm f1.4 which I use for portraits, very nice bokeh. I paid way too much for it but it had never been used previously, so I had to have it.
hi, my current combo is Fujifilm 16mm 2.8 and Fujifilm 18-55mm 2.8-4 and sometimes a viltrox 85mm 1.8 is included. sometimes I go out with a pair of vintage lenses 😅
My current setup is the 23mm f1.4 wr and the 56mm f1.4 wr for Photography and for fun I have a bunch of Vintage Lenses adapted. The ones I enjoy must are the Pentax Super Takumar, Nikkor, Helios Konica, and Zeiss.
Great video! I’m eyeing the 16mm f2.8 as my next lens. I have a Sony 16-50mm f2.8 that I adapt to my xs10 but it’s very unwieldy so I would like something lightweight and easy to carry. I just have the Fuji 35mm f2.0 XC right now. It’s a fantastic little lens. I’m blown away how beautiful images taken with native lenses look. Can’t wait to shoot with the 16mm f2.8!
@@AndreiDimaReviewsI had a dilemma after exploring other lens options and immediately came back to this video. I was eyeing the 13mm f1.4 from Viltrox instead of the 16mm f2.8. Your words at the end about selecting the 16mm over the 13mm when you go out to take pictures for fun helped cement my original decision. Thank you! The images from the Viltrox one look pretty sweet though . . .
For fun and a light carry: 16 2.8 and 30 2.8, Samyang 75 1.8 Ultimate combo: 18 1.4, 33 1.4, 90 f2. Wild card teo-lens fun combo: 18 1.4 WR, 56 1.2 WR One and done: 23 1.4 WR And I've got the Viltrox 27 1.2 (maybe selling) and 75 1.2 trying to edge their way in, but i don't like travelling with either.
Mines are the new viltrox 27f1.2 and the 16mmf2.8, yes the 27 is a bit heavy but the results are worth it, it’s ultra sharp and still has this beautiful swirly bokeh like a modern helios
X-T5 + 16mm F1.4 + 35mm F1.4 and X-T50 + 16mm F1.4 + 35mm F2 are my preferred prime combos. But I would just go with the Tamron 17-70 F2.8 and the Voigtlander 27mm F2 for trips.
I have an x-t30 and my most recent travel combo was the 16 1.4 and the 35 1.4. They are my favorite focal lengths. I didn’t love stopping and switching lessons so I think I will try just one lens next time. Most often it’d be the 16 if tourist and the 35 if bumming around. I adore the 16 1.4 but it’s heavy; I haven’t tried the 2.8 - have you used both? I wonder about that 2.8, it would be nice to have a smaller fun 16. …. I just got the Viltrox 13 and like it so far but am still getting used to it; it’s not like it’s heavier than the fuji 16 1.4 but I don’t know yet if it is as easy to compose with for me. Last up is a cheap fun manual focus 35, it’s charming but I am slow at manual focusing and tge fuji 35 1.4 already has character.
Great video Andrei!!! I have the dilemma of which one of them bring to Prague ,the Fujifilm 16mm f 2.8 or the Viltrox 13mm f 1.4 ... I packed also my Fujifilm 35mm f 2 and the Fujifilm 90mm f 2, and if those lenses were not enough I took the Minolta 50mm f 1.7 manual lens. Wich do you think would be the perfect combo to take to Prague? Thans in aThankse
Thank you! Last time I was in Prague, I was using a full-frame camera. The focal length I used most of the time was 24mm (16mm on APS-C), but there are some areas where you would need something wider. You can get the Viltrox and crop if you need to. Also, Prague is beautiful at night, so a brighter lens is better. The 35mm is perfect for street photography and capturing parts of the city from above.
Hello. Great video and photos. I use one XE2 and one XT2 paired with XF 27/2.8 and XF 35/2. 16/2.8 and 35/1.4 are the lenses I wanted to try! Your video makes me want to but them ! 😉👌
I really enjoyed your video i clicked because the topic interested me but somewhere in the video i got lost in your wonderful shots. The 35mm 1.4 can produce beautiful photos its autofocus is its only real down fall but honestly an all time favorite. I also like 27mm really sharp and compact.
Hi - When I'm not lugging around my XH-2 with either the XF23mm F1.4 (WR), or XF16-55mm F2.8, I'd always grab my old (bought new in 2012) X-Pro1, and until 12 months ago my similarly old XF35mm F1.4 lens, which sadly I needed to replace when after 11 years hard use the autofocus died. I could not justify the cost of repair or replacement of the XF35mm F1.4, which I only used as a secondary lens. However I was offered an excellent used, "plastic/fantastic" XC 35mm F/2 for much less than the cost of repair or replacement of the original XF35mm F/1.4 lens. This cheap & light lens exceeded all my expectations, based on my previous and limited experience of the XF 35mm F2 version. On the whole I've never got on with the so called "Fujicron" F2 lenses. However as you say the XF16mm f/2.8 is a different, and much better proposition, and I would probably have purchased this lens if I didn't already possess another similarly unrecognised Fujinon lens, namely the original XF18mm F/2 lens, which always accompanies my outings with the X-Pro1 & XC35mm F2 lens. Like you, my only wish is that Fuji would bring out a weather proof mk2 version of the 18mm lens, whilst retaining the "pancake" format!
If im going really light, ill just take the 16mm 2.8 and nothing else. Its quite an immersive focal length, and its perfect in cities with narrow streets and large buildings. I love the size of the 27mm, but if traveling with just that, i often found myself craving more width. Together though they make a great lightweight pair.
When it comes to video, yes the 23mm f2 is an underrated lens. When it comes to photography I don't think so, most Fujifilm X users I know have one and love it.
Thank you Andrei so much for sharing your favorite compact travel lenses, so glad we share the same favorite lenses to travel even when we have better and more perfect lenses.
XT30 + XF 35mm 1.4 for size/ weight/ fun/ image feel = my best combo ever, I think I made a mistake selling them and getting the XS20 + XF 33mm 1.4 though everything is better now, I sure miss that combo
Great video! For my work I am using the Viltorox 13mm 1.4 and the Sigma Contemporary 30mm 1.4. But I might be looking at the XF 35mm to switch with the Sigma soon!
I have the 13mm I would probably take the 35 1.4... this gives me a proper landscape lens but there's so many great options with Fujifilm and many of the lenses are affordable
@@AndreiDimaReviews I have done some street photography with it also and then just crop a little bit. It's probably a little bit too wide in some circumstances but you can definitely put it in portrait mode and shoot straight Photography with it and crop a little bit especially with the XT5 it's such a versatile lens and it's so sharp.
Hello , thank you for the video and for work that you do , as allways enjoyed watching ! My favorite setup x-s10 /fringer adapter + sigma 18-35 art / 50-230 fuji Just couldnt stop using sigma when step away from nikon dslr... also i love the 50-230 fuji it has amazing results and easy to carry on speatialy after sigma heh.. Currently thinking about upgrading pack with 10-24 fuji
Hello Andrei, I love the 35, too. But I am still thinking if the 14mm 2.8 would be the option, instead of the 16mm (wr is not an that important). Have you never took the 14mm into consideration? If, yes, what made you to decide for the 16 instead? Tks and have a good day.
Great video. Thanks for creating content Andrei. Struggling at the moment. If I should sell my x100v and replace with an xt3 + 23mm I.4 & 35mm 1.4. Decisions decisions.
hey andrei, would going from an original xt30 to an xt5 be a huge jump in size? i love the size of my xt30 but am considering a second body. i have and love both of these lenses. but also have the 18 1.4, 56 1.2 90 f2 as well as 16-55 and 55-200....
I really enjoy your videos. I feel the same way about the 35mm 1.4, I’ve been thinking about the 16 f/2.8 - since I have the Viltrox 13mm 1.4 which I mainly use for talking head RUclips videos in studio. But I agree the Viltrox is a bit heavy to carry around for a fun day shooting outside.
How about 14/2.8 and 35/1.4? I ask because so many fuji users say 14 is a much better lens. I want to add a wide prime to my current kit (X-T1 + 35/1.4), i don’t care for the WR and faster AF.
I believe it refers to the unique look. I've been able to tell which lens took certain images just from the looks of the image. Not necessarily the focal length or the depth of field but from how the image comes out.
Hello, I used the Fujifilm X-H2S and Tamron 17-70mm f2.8. No filter, I used Dehancer to edit the video like that. Get 10% off your purchase of Dehancer using the code ANDREIDIMA: www.dehancer.com/
My current setup is the Fujifilm X-S20 with the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 zoom which worked really well on a recent trip. The only thing I wished for while on the trip was a wider lens so I am currently considering the Sigma 11-18mm f2.8 zoom as well as some other options including the Fujifilm 16mm f2.8. At this point I just feel that zooms work better for how I shoot.
Personally i hated the sigma 18-50mm. Dont get me wrong, IQ was great and the weight was insane. But weather sealing was just abysmal. After 1 week it was full of dust, after 2 weeks an actual dog hair managed to infiltrate the inner parts. Got a new one from the store, same thing happened. So i went for the expensive fuji one instead.
Well, 23/1.4 only my xt4 almost all the time since most of my time I would photograph things/people within 3m. 35/2 if I am walking on the street for people, but fall back to 23/1.4 if I want to have more environment perspective with people in it (used to be 18/2). 50-140 for outdoor landscape/portraits since its convenience, 150-600 for birds/landscape.
Thanks for the good video. I started with the 18-55mm and bought the 35mm f2 2months ago. So glad I did, I just love using a prime, the focal length is perfect for me (kid, portrait, walk around, close up, etc) I have so much fun and love the look it renders. 16mm f2 is on my list.
When I travel, I will always have a zoom lens 16-80) with me and a couple of primes. If I have to pick a prime combo for travel then I would take the 2 pancake lenses 18 f2 and 27 f2.8
A true man takes his 8-16mm, 16-50 and 50-140 on trips 😎 just kidding, but your set up is awesome! I always play this scenario in my head and for me I would take the 23mm f/1.4 and 50mm f/2. It is the most logical for me, but then my 27mm is calling my name and saying that it is so compact and small...
Hey Guys, which would be your best Lens choice for a "Very Low Profile" and a little Zoom? something like 28-140mm? Will Travel to Latin America and my Backpack is 35L, so just 1 Lens i will bring with me Please Help

Hello. Great video and photos. I use one XE2 and one XT2 paired with XF 27/2.8 and XF 35/2. 16/2.8 and 35/1.4 are the lenses I wanted to try! Your video makes me want to but them ! 😉👌
Thanks for sharing!
I really enjoyed your video i clicked because the topic interested me but somewhere in the video i got lost in your wonderful shots. The 35mm 1.4 can produce beautiful photos its autofocus is its only real down fall but honestly an all time favorite. I also like 27mm really sharp and compact.
Thank you! The 27mm is such an underrated lens.
The 18mm f/2 is an underrated lens in the Fujifilm lineup and deserves an update.
Cool!
In my opinion one of the most underated lens from Fuji is 23mm F2 i love his character in filmmaking
Yes, I remember these are your favourite lenses. Perfection sometimes is boring.
XT30 + XF 35mm 1.4
for size/ weight/ fun/ image feel = my best combo ever, I think I made a mistake selling them and getting the XS20 + XF 33mm 1.4
though everything is better now, I sure miss that combo
The X-T30 and the XF 35mm f1.4 is a compact combo, great for travel. The X-T30 is such an underrated camera.
Why didnt you like the xs20?
My favorite Combos are
23mm/50mm f2
16mm 2.8/ 35mm f2
Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 / Viltrox 85mm f1.8 II
Nice combos!
great combos!
Great video! For my work I am using the Viltorox 13mm 1.4 and the Sigma Contemporary 30mm 1.4. But I might be looking at the XF 35mm to switch with the Sigma soon!
Thank you! You are going to love the XF 35mm.
I love the XF 23mm f/2
It's a great lens.
My personal favorite 3-lens Fuji setup is:
16mm f/1.4 Fujinon
23mm f/1.4 Fujinon
56mm f/1.2 Fujinon
My favorite lightweight prime 3-lens Fuji travel kit:
12mm f/2 Rokinon manual focus
55mm f/1.8 adapted Fujinon M42 screw mount manual focus lens
135mm f/2.8 adapted manual focus lens
My favorite zoom 3-lens Fuji travel kit:
16-55mm f/2.8 Fujinon
50-140mm f/2.8 Fujinon
12mm f/2.8 Zeiss Touit auto focus lens
Nice combos!
I have the 13mm I would probably take the 35 1.4... this gives me a proper landscape lens but there's so many great options with Fujifilm and many of the lenses are affordable
True, the Viltrox 13mm is a great option for landscape.
My favorite setup x-s10 /fringer adapter + sigma 18-35 art / 50-230 fuji
Just couldnt stop using sigma when step away from nikon dslr... also i love the 50-230 fuji it has amazing results and easy to carry on speatialy after sigma heh..
Currently thinking about upgrading pack with 10-24 fuji
Thank you! The Sigma 10-18mm is a better option in my opinion.
X-pro1 with the Brightin star 35 F0.95 …. So good
Hello Andrei, I love the 35, too. But I am still thinking if the 14mm 2.8 would be the option, instead of the 16mm (wr is not an that important). Have you never took the 14mm into consideration? If, yes, what made you to decide for the 16 instead? Tks and have a good day.
Hello! I like the 14mm f2.8, but the 16mm wins for me because of weight and size.
@@AndreiDimaReviews thanks a lot Andrei for your kind reply. Cheers
Great video. Thanks for creating content Andrei.
Struggling at the moment. If I should sell my x100v and replace with an xt3 + 23mm I.4 & 35mm 1.4.
Decisions decisions.
Thank you!
hey andrei, would going from an original xt30 to an xt5 be a huge jump in size? i love the size of my xt30 but am considering a second body.
i have and love both of these lenses. but also have the 18 1.4, 56 1.2 90 f2 as well as 16-55 and 55-200....
It is a jump in size but that big.
I'd say your opinions on the 35 have some value for video but would drive me nuts for stills..espescially DOF 10ft and less...just my opinion.
The haze/bloom in the 35mm video footage is lovely.
Glad you like it!
Thank you! You have a nice channel as well, keep it up!
I decided to "rebuy" my 35mm f1.4. Should never have sold it..the new one will be here tomorrow. Won't make that mistake again.
It's an amazing lens.
How about 14/2.8 and 35/1.4?
I ask because so many fuji users say 14 is a much better lens.
I want to add a wide prime to my current kit (X-T1 + 35/1.4), i don’t care for the WR and faster AF.
That is a good combo if you don't care about AF speed. The 14mm is bigger and slower.
I kinda agree, but for me I swap them to being the XF16/1.4 and the Touit 32/1.8.
That is a nice combo. I saw your video about the Touit 32mm f1.8. It's true, not too many people use that lens. If I find one, I will give it a try.
Yep. 16/2.8, 35/1.4, anddddd 50mm/2 if you have an pocket.
Yes, the 50mm f2 would be a great addition to this combo.
So what is lens "character"? Does it have any objective meaning in terms of lenses?
I believe it refers to the unique look. I've been able to tell which lens took certain images just from the looks of the image. Not necessarily the focal length or the depth of field but from how the image comes out.
I'm not professional photographer and I want a one lens for my travel trip photography , pls suggest one :)
@@ashishfugat704 Sigma 18-50mm f2.8
what camera, lens and filtr is this video shoot with, pleas? thanks!
The new Sigma 11-18mm looks like a great lens, good image quality and pretty compact.
Thank you for sharing!
Great review Andrei 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for the good video. I started with the 18-55mm and bought the 35mm f2 2months ago. So glad I did, I just love using a prime, the focal length is perfect for me (kid, portrait, walk around, close up, etc) I have so much fun and love the look it renders. 16mm f2 is on my list.
I am glad you liked it!
When I travel, I will always have a zoom lens 16-80) with me and a couple of primes. If I have to pick a prime combo for travel then I would take the 2 pancake lenses 18 f2 and 27 f2.8
I hope they will make an 18mm f2 MKII.
This is my favourite combo, but when I want an even smaller setup, I use the X-E4 with the 27mm f2.8.
I love the video with this lens ❤😊
Thank you!
Arggggh this lens constantly tempts me 😅😅😅😅
The 16mm or the 35mm? Thx for stopping by!
The 16 2.8 is such an underrated lens.
Yes, it is. So many people avoid it because it has soft corners.
How did 35mm f2 disappointed you?
Autofocus, I missed some important shots because of it. It's a good lens, but it doesn't have the best AF.
@@AndreiDimaReviews 35mm f1.4 has better autofocus??
@@garra3504 dont think so
16mm F/2.8, 27mm F/2.8, 35mm F/2.
Thank you for sharing!
I like the 23mm F2 I have been watching the 16mm F2.8 and one day I might get one if I can do so my wife tends to get in the way haha
Does this lens use real glass like sigma?
I think so.
Greetings
