I really like the "every man" approach that you use. So many channels are put together like they are talking to people who walk around with $100,000 in their pocket and turn everything into a "restomod". I really hate that. It ruins the true nature of honest vehicle hunting and self repair or restoration.

Me 4! For reasons of both want and need, I’m looking for a truck. my BF is tellin me as new as possible = good, old=bad. I just can’t take that as gospel and I’m still trying to understand it all. He means well and is very practical and wise but he don’t really know what he’s talking bout. Neither do I, that’s why I’m here, but I think his tendency to like bells and whistles is clouding/ making a biased opinion. I know there’s an argument to be made for the value and dependability in an older truck. And I’m not one to mind not keepin up with the Jones’s, I don’t mind rust and cracks as long as it’s got good guts and does it’s job, I mean don’t get me wrong I love shiny things but equally, I love patina. I’m trying to find a balance between affordability dependability, satisfying my desire for the aesthetics of an older truck but not one too beat up n “ugly” to save my people the secondhand embarrassment.

Love your philosophy! I received two free older motorcycles that didn’t run. Got one running good enough to freeway and daily drive, kinda lol. Enjoyed it for a bit and sold it for still cheap but made money and got to enjoy a time capsule of 80s motorcycles. The other one I got to turn over but not actually start, but sold cheap to an Australian guy who had literally seen the world. Enjoy the journey!

I like your cardboard list. I do the same.
A little rust is just weight reduction. Gets better gas mileage.
On an old beater. Who cares.

Factory is good.. Who am I to second guess the design engineers. If I didn't like the design I wouldn't have bought it. A factory radio in the dash is nice, but more often than not it will be off so I can listen to the vehicle. If the truck runs and drives safely and dependably then I'm happy.

Some guy trying to sell me an '87 chevy step van says it doesn't need a title in the state of Maine since it's so old. IDK what happened to the title, but my state also has a rule like that. What do you think? I guess if I see it again I'll check the vin# he gave me with what's on the van.
