  • We are back on our land after our vacation to the beautiful Dominican Republic. It was so nice to get away and take a bit of a much needed break! We are back on the land to freezing temperatures and since we had to winterize our RV (before leaving) we now have to connect and get everything back to speed. That includes installing our water pump to our well, heating our trailer and continuing our DIY trailer renovation and connecting both our trailers so we can heat our trailers with a wood stove. We still have plenty to do so join as we share our journey living off grid in the Canadian Wilderness in the hopes to build our future home!

You can buy 4 inch and 6 inch heat duct fans , may work for getting more hot air into your other trailer I’d suggest starting at room like you say and then put the ducting going down to the floor in your other trailer , , I’d also recommend 1 or 2 eco stove fans for on top the wood stove , as for under your trailer if your skirting don’t work you could always put a diesel heater to blow heat under there as well , but if you didn’t freeze up at -27 I think you will be good , was also gonna say snow is a good insulator so instead of shoveling it away from your trailer , shovel it up against your trailer skirting will help insulate big time ,

Fun fact for you. When you clear land of trees it opens new wind stress on existing trees. More often than not you will experience new blow downs in the following years. Mind the trees still standing around your homestead

adding underpinning will add just a little more heat retention to cut down on burning wood. it really will be helpful when its windy. But it can wait for a year or two.

I'm in Ontario, not sure when you were talking about Barrie being hit, but in the last 2 weeks they have virtually no snow, but north of there Gravenhurst and Port Severn we got hammered. Hwy 11 was shut with people stranded and wide spread power outages. Port Severn areas have 12 feet in the last two weeks and 5 feet in a 30 hr period just Friday.

The sun sets here in New Brunswick around 4:30 pm as well and the days begin getting longer on the 21st of December 🙂 Lots of jobs getting accomplished since returning from your vacation. Very good idea to reinforce the floor with that heavy tote. You may want to consider using a steel beam to run underneath from one side to the other, instead of wood. Great work Thi 👍Great to have all the family back together

For sure I would have a water heater on the wood stove and heat at least one of the totes by heating the water then sending it to the trailer to a radiator then return it (while cooler) to the tote as the tote would not keep water at a high temperature. Solves two problems keeps the trailer warm and keeps the tote from freezing.

  • @beccapike9260

I live off grid too. I also use a water tote for house water. I built it into my kitchen and had to pour a 10 inch high density concrete pad under it for support. Just something to consider when your tote is in a travel trailer. Water is 8lbs a gallon a full tote of 350 gallons is 2,800 lbs.

Luckily, Max is feeling so much better now after he took it easy. But I always worry about these pups... especially Maxi and his back legs. Nice work! One way to improve the Vevor's efficiency is to run the exhaust through some metal pipes within the envelope of your home before venting it outside so the heat from the exhaust air can also transfer into your home. You'll see a great drop in fuel usage!
