When I lived year round in my Jayco trailer I built a garage type enclosure for it just for the winter months, I used 2x4's and clear tarps and manufactured a chimney out of sheetmetal. It lowered my heating costs greatly.
use pool noodles for your piping and hoses to help keep from freezing. you can also use heating tape with the pool noodles .. its a awesome hack to help keep pipes and hoses from freezing. also inexpensive.

Should have used something more solid like pink insulation board or the silver enerfoil you used up front to withstand wind and large amounts of snow and you’ll need heat tape around your pipes to keep from freezing. They use it on mobile homes. It plugs into electric and wraps around your pipes so they don’t freeze. Very important and not that expensive. It’s not actually tape. It’s several feet long. Pool noodles around your hose and pipes also. You should also put pink insulation board on inside walls of both your trailers because the walls are paper thin. And build a roof over top of both
I ran my reflectix vertical so I just cut the tape seams and retape, for your door a coat hanger frame on both pieces then tape the cut with tuck tape, I only cut my way in 6 times last year, battery upgrade, check , add heater and forgotten tools lol.
@memykidsandi it might be a bit different there... so I'm not aware of the rules... I hope you figure it out... I would ask neighbors and people with land for some help and guidance ... that's how we got most of our information
Skirting is ok. But my advice? See if you cannot find enough square straw bales that can go all the way around the perimeter. Let the front of the trailer down to get them set around the back side, and jack it up and cram them under the front.
We used straw last year. It worked well, it cost me close to $400.00 cad. This year, I'm gonna try this foil bubble wrap, but if I notice it's not working, I will have to try something else. Thank you for watching.

You can create and store a ton of energy with solar if you want. In something as simple as 45 gallon steel drum and an insulated enclosure.
May I suggest facing both campers together so the doors face each other and make a common mudroom between them and get a kick-ass wood stove to put there Skirting definitely helps

Dude im in ontario too looking to do the same thing. A woodstove is a life saver. I got a 1200 sq ft rated wood stove for my trailer. Humidity inside wont be an issue with wood. Underneath it may be. I plan to spray foam the bottom of my trailer. With a wood stove youll likely be cracking windows itll be so warm.
@canuck7268 did you have the stove inside the trailer? We've put the same size stove in a shed that's attached to the camper...hoping it will warm it enough? We have a 27' trailer (no "all seasons" package options.)
I skirted my RV like you did and I ended up with major humidity in the RV. Hope you don't have the same problem. Looks like you have lots of wood on your lot. In my case I didn't have any dry wood, so I used two diesel heaters for the last two years. They needed 12 volt power, but the nice thing is you can control the heat better. Vevor has them on sale for about $100 dollars. I tried my propane furnace and it burnt through a 30 pound tank in about two days.
I got a diesel heater in my small cabin too, they are great. Cheap and very efficient, they sip diesel and electricity, 10L last me all winter but I only visit on weekends.
Watching Blue dig brings back memories of a beautiful young husky I once owned. He destroyed my back yard and I had to find him a new home. The last straw came when I caught him undermining my above ground pool. What disaster that would have been.
Ugh, yeah, they can be very destructive if left alone for too long... add 2 to the mix... things can get crazy. Now they are closer to 2 years old they are less destructive but Gina also works from home and does Homeschooling with the kids so they are rarely alone and if they do stay home it's in their cages... they can be quite the handful!
Great job! Just make sure you seal bottom to the ground or weight the edges. I've had trouble keeping critters from digging under and setting up house keeping. Skunks and possums. Good luck.

keep your stump from trees and if your planing a garden patch to grow food chop the roots put that down first the straw waste veg peel. then top soil, it help you growing food a lot better, you could do polly tunnel to help with cold weather with a heater in side. just a thought, love watching

Tip; better to debark your logs first. This will prevent them from rotting so fast and growing mold. They will harden as well. And last you for more years.
If you can I would make flaps for all of you cut outs. And if you have enough of the bobble insulation double as much as you van. It will only HELP you later as it keeps getting colder.
You will need to put that installation also under your mattress bc that storage area will keep your mattress and bedroom cold. We finally just sealed it off for the winter bc it’s so drafty

Hey guys that's cute that's a really nice video lots of good comments and I think you should really read it some of the really good ones now for the things you've done right you put gravel down really important but you can put enough and you didn't compact it that's one of your biggest problems if you put gravel down first before you put anything down there 2 in then run a compactor over it to compact gravel really tightly it almost makes it like cement keeps plants from growing and it allows the water when it rains too percolate through that's the main thing and in the winter the gravel helps a little bit for the first few inches of snow and ice. Remember you're in Northern Ontario and it gets mighty cold mighty like in January or before so your idea is kind of good but you still need to back up wood stove in your other RV a smaller one in the middle someplace. Now remember burning wood keeps you warm but you have to keep your wood stove clean keep the creosote down you don't want to have a fire in your chimney you will burn your house down. That's the other problem right now I'll tell you personally the thing about the trees you were saying this is the time it's been one half of the day dropping all those trees you want to drop and letting them season till next year to dry out. Don't get me wrong I love what you're doing but you're an RVs and I don't know about you but most of those RVs or not usually rated to minus 30 C and it doesn't matter how much heat you have it's going to lose that RV fast. I would listen to one of the people that left a comment and you should definitely have one a winner Arctic tent preset up with a stove in there and enough wood for a week just in case you need it like if you find out those RVs are not cutting it on Arctic tent are designed for really cold weather. You can look on other RUclips videos there are people that have used them for long term living and I'm very comfortable living well I hope everything goes okay. cool hand San Pedro California

Never cozy in an rv in winter . It's best too build a type of garage over and around so air moves freely . Will help with moisture build up that will cause mold . Wood stove helps but having it in the garage is better. Then small one in rv or heater.
Thank you for the tip, I ran a drain cycle with rv antifreeze inside. It worked out last year, and it stayed the whole winter in freezing temperatures. I'm hoping to have a warm place to store it soon. Thank you for watching!
One thing I would suggest is to get bigger propane tanks. When it's cold you go through alot more. If you can put a small electic heater underto keep water from freezing.😊

At 69 I would hate to have to spend the whole winter in my fifth wheel. If you have to it would take and help to greatly prepare. I would think a structure surrounding would be the best way. Moisture would be the biggest problem.
I’m in Vermont USA I’m in a 40 foot quad slide toy hauler. My RV is skirted with 3 inch of compressed insulation boards 4 x 8 sheets. I also skirted with 4 x 8 sheets cut to fit of course so I could have a medium to attach my cut to fit insulation boards With propane heat yes you do have moisture with wood heat no. I have 120 gallon propane bottle that runs my RV I do have city water I do have landline power. I have landline Internet, though I could run my entire RV off of my batteries, my solar and my propane heater, regardless, if you run diesel or propane for heat you’re going to get moisture unless you have extra ventilation in the Rv. The local building supply as well as Home Depot and Lowe’s sells those insulation boards for anywhere from $45-$60 each I drive one hour south of me. There’s a distributor on the New York Vermont line that I buy my insulation from. I’ve never had a freeze up I have 220 gallons of freshwater, 120 gallons of black and 80 gallons of gray. I am hooked up to sewer so I don’t have an issue but I do not let my system flow. I keep the tanks filled then every 234 weeks I’ll drain the tanks only an idiot with an RV, keeps their valves open and just lets everything flow that’s not how it’s done, it looks like the product that you’re using is 1/2 inch thick. What benefit are you going to get for that? Why didn’t you use a solid insulation foam board anyways keep a pad and pen close by and as you go through your first winter you take notes of how to improve it good luck.

We'll be posting videos on how it performs... and if it doesn't perform well, we might need to switch to the foam boards. Last winter, we used straw. However, we didn't spend the winter there. How did you seal the skirting insulation to the trailer? I would have concern that water or moisture will give you grief keeping the top sealed to the retailer? Youve done lots of hard work getting this far. Im hoping you cans stay warm,dry and trouble free through the winter!!!

We do have a physical address ... and would use the one on our drivers license... it just looks different... for example, it would start with something like Lot 80 Con. 20 Carlington Township... we use our address for multiple things... if you want 911 number you can apply for one and maybe get in contact with your nearest fire department for next steps ... and then you can also still get a PO Box for mail .. hope this helps

There are too many clothes in the washer. Makes me cry to see it work so hard. Won't last long. Then you can hook it to a bicycle and you all can get exercise this winter.
why your solar array has such a bad angle? For winter sun angle must be more vertical than horizontal may be 60-70 degrees depending on your property latitude ... google: "10 deg away from facing the sun directly results in over 98% of the output. 45 deg away and it is still about 89%. More than 45 deg it falls off rapidly"
@DimitarDimitrovBG135 we explain this in our videos that we are still clearing land and this is a temporary set up as when we moved into our land it was all forest. We need to clear more land (and we are in the process of doing this to set up our solar properly). This isn't where our solar will be staying
@OffGridWithGinaThi I understand... Yet may be you can think of smth to lift one end of solar to reach at least 45 degrees margin where solar is still at 89% efficiency so about 25-30% angle. I know its winter now and solar is very bad performance but once you get to March it should start generating. So a thing to consider next month.
If you watch our videos, you'll know why lol 😆 Unfortunately, this breed is known for running away, and because of the bears and wildlife in the area and for their safety ... as wolves are known to kill dogs... people also hunt on crown land and set up traps for animals. We only leave them off leash one at a time because both of them together means trouble. But no, we don't leave our dogs on their own all the time due to their safety, but they still live their best life. If you are watching our videos, you will see that 😉
Sorry to be negative but you cutting with the chainsaw towards you is freaking me out !! Cut away from your body! And building on a slope is very tricky, make sure you consult professionals or your cabin may fall down from mudslides, earth shifting or who knows what.
@Sunny_Daye we did and they got hurt several times. If you watch our other videos you'll know but maybe you're just passing by. We are also surrounded by crown land and there are times where there are traps in the forest
Shut up loser 😂😂. Trees are a renewable energy source, he's likely only cutting the dead ones and his carbon foot print is way lower than yours burning natural gas or propane. I am a logger by trade. Select cut logging and thinning is a must have for preserving forest lands and encouraging growth. I can cut over 100 trees a day and the land is better when I leave than when I got there.

Straw or hay or reasonable ideas ...however, bear in mind that mice also love to find warm places to over-winter

That's the other problem right now I'll tell you personally the thing about the trees you were saying this is the time it's been one half of the day dropping all those trees you want to drop and letting them season till next year to dry out. Don't get me wrong I love what you're doing but you're an RVs and I don't know about you but most of those RVs or not usually rated to minus 30 C and it doesn't matter how much heat you have it's going to lose that RV fast. I would listen to one of the people that left a comment and you should definitely have one a winner Arctic tent preset up with a stove in there and enough wood for a week just in case you need it like if you find out those RVs are not cutting it on Arctic tent are designed for really cold weather. You can look on other RUclips videos there are people that have used them for long term living and I'm very comfortable living well I hope everything goes okay. cool hand San Pedro California

Never cozy in an rv in winter . It's best too build a type of garage over and around so air moves freely . Will help with moisture build up that will cause mold . Wood stove helps but having it in the garage is better. Then small one in rv or heater.

Your washer machine has areas under it that need to stay warm other wise the water pump for the washer will crack
Thank you for the tip, I ran a drain cycle with rv antifreeze inside. It worked out last year, and it stayed the whole winter in freezing temperatures. I'm hoping to have a warm place to store it soon. Thank you for watching!
One thing I would suggest is to get bigger propane tanks. When it's cold you go through alot more. If you can put a small electic heater underto keep water from freezing.😊

You will need some kind of heating under the trailers to keep water from freezing for sure…
This will be my first winter here... you're probably right. I want to get a wifi thermometer to keep under the trailler so I can keep an eye on it.
Once you pack snow against the bottom then it will be very well insulated. Heating tape around pipes might be good idea.
At 69 I would hate to have to spend the whole winter in my fifth wheel. If you have to it would take and help to greatly prepare. I would think a structure surrounding would be the best way. Moisture would be the biggest problem.
I’m in Vermont USA I’m in a 40 foot quad slide toy hauler. My RV is skirted with 3 inch of compressed insulation boards 4 x 8 sheets. I also skirted with 4 x 8 sheets cut to fit of course so I could have a medium to attach my cut to fit insulation boards With propane heat yes you do have moisture with wood heat no.
I have 120 gallon propane bottle that runs my RV I do have city water I do have landline power. I have landline Internet, though I could run my entire RV off of my batteries, my solar and my propane heater, regardless, if you run diesel or propane for heat you’re going to get moisture unless you have extra ventilation in the Rv. The local building supply as well as Home Depot and Lowe’s sells those insulation boards for anywhere from $45-$60 each I drive one hour south of me. There’s a distributor on the New York Vermont line that I buy my insulation from. I’ve never had a freeze up I have 220 gallons of freshwater, 120 gallons of black and 80 gallons of gray. I am hooked up to sewer so I don’t have an issue but I do not let my system flow. I keep the tanks filled then every 234 weeks I’ll drain the tanks only an idiot with an RV, keeps their valves open and just lets everything flow that’s not how it’s done, it looks like the product that you’re using is 1/2 inch thick. What benefit are you going to get for that? Why didn’t you use a solid insulation foam board anyways keep a pad and pen close by and as you go through your first winter you take notes of how to improve it good luck.

We'll be posting videos on how it performs... and if it doesn't perform well, we might need to switch to the foam boards. Last winter, we used straw. However, we didn't spend the winter there. How did you seal the skirting insulation to the trailer? I would have concern that water or moisture will give you grief keeping the top sealed to the retailer? Youve done lots of hard work getting this far. Im hoping you cans stay warm,dry and trouble free through the winter!!!

We do have a physical address ... and would use the one on our drivers license... it just looks different... for example, it would start with something like Lot 80 Con. 20 Carlington Township... we use our address for multiple things... if you want 911 number you can apply for one and maybe get in contact with your nearest fire department for next steps ... and then you can also still get a PO Box for mail .. hope this helps

Unfortunately, I think you will find the wood too wet. Order some. It must be pretty cheap up there. Or you can find some dead trees to cut and split.

I live in a cold climate.........your skirting is going to need to be lot thicker than that when it comes to insulation. It will not be enough.

why your solar array has such a bad angle? For winter sun angle must be more vertical than horizontal may be 60-70 degrees depending on your property latitude ...

We need to clear more land (and we are in the process of doing this to set up our solar properly). This isn't where our solar will be staying

I understand... Yet may be you can think of smth to lift one end of solar to reach at least 45 degrees margin where solar is still at 89% efficiency so about 25-30% angle. I know its winter now and solar is very bad performance but once you get to March it should start generating. So a thing to consider next month.
The simple solution i can think of is to put a log on one side and secure it ropes or screws ... Not sure what is the foundation 🤔

We only leave them off leash one at a time because both of them together means trouble. But no, we don't leave our dogs on their own all the time due to their safety, but they still live their best life. If you are watching our videos, you will see that 😉

Sorry to be negative but you cutting with the chainsaw towards you is freaking me out !! Cut away from your body! And building on a slope is very tricky, make sure you consult professionals or your cabin may fall down from mudslides, earth shifting or who knows what.

Shut up loser 😂😂. Trees are a renewable energy source, he's likely only cutting the dead ones and his carbon foot print is way lower than yours burning natural gas or propane. I am a logger by trade. Select cut logging and thinning is a must have for preserving forest lands and encouraging growth. I can cut over 100 trees a day and the land is better when I leave than when I got there.
In Canada trees grow like weeds. Maybe you should stop chopping salad just to fill your gut?😅
