    Lufthansa
    Flight 423
    Date: Dec.28th.2022
    Origin: Boston Logan (BOS) 🇺🇸
    Destination: Frankfurt Airport (FRA) 🇩🇪
    Aircraft: Airbus A340-313 D-AIGL “Herne”
    Seat: 10A Premium Economy
    00:00 Line up on Runway 22R

    Landing of this flight: • [4K]Lufthansa A340-313...
    An interesting fact that I have to mention for this flight is that this is actually the last commercial flight for D-AIGL in old Lufthansa livery. This beautiful bird stayed at FRA for several days after this flight, and flew to Châteauroux, France, where she finally got repainted to the new Lufthansa livery.
    Another view of this takeoff is very fortunately captured by another spotter at 14:35 in this video: • Boston Logan Airport |...

      The A340-300 doesn’t use more runway than others. It all matters how much power is reduced on takeoff. It seem the pilot didn’t reduce as much as they could’ve.

    • @sean2015
      @sean2015 Год назад +7

      I was surprised that this aircraft took off from Boston's Runway 22R which is 7800' long. It seems like a rather short runway for an A340 on a transatlantic flight.

    • @hendricstattmann3638
      @hendricstattmann3638 Год назад +11

      The 340-300 has roughly the same total power installed as a A330-300 and the OEW of the 340 is only marginally higher. Therefore, the takeoff roll of the 340 won't be much longer.
      The observed shallow climb out of many 340-300s is due to the fact that it can load about 40t more than the A330-300, which is needed for the longest missions.

If I am not mistaken, 8000 feet are about 2500 meters ; this is too short for a safe take off of various versions of the A 380 though 2000 meters might be enough for a take off at 300 metric tons (empty mass 270 metric tons). By installing a a320 engine they saved a lot on planing/construction costs.
      Also spare parts for a320 engines are available in almost every airport in case something happens. Also it served the ETOPS requirements from back in the days.
      Further, why don’t take the a320 motor? It works perfectly fine and safe and has enough power to fulfill its task. Also the a340-300 is not really underpowered as most people say from roomers.
      It’s just the fact, that the a340 could take a lot more fuel with it and take off much heavier than the a330 for ultra long haul. But on normal long haul the weight is lower and take off and climb performance is absolutely perfect.

      The a340 was originally meant to use the iae superfan which is way larger than the cfm56. However developmental issues led airbus to increase fuel capacity by extending the wingspan and use the next comparable engines aka hairdryers.

    why do all modern jets make that horrible vibrate sound on full power?

      I don’t know exactly why but It’s due to the tip of fan blade going supersonic. Newer engines usually don’t make that sound, although I really like this sound

    Typisch Deutsch, minutenlanges Gelaber. Wenigstens hat es zum Take-Off geendet. Der Abflug ist wirklich sehr schön. Da der Airbus A340-300 mit Hilfe der Erdkrümmung steigt, ist man minutenlang im Tiefflug.
