With all the workplace diversity programs, as long as a person is over 18, age discrimination should not be allowed for qualified applicants. There is plenty of seasoned workers who still HAVE to work and because they happen to be older, most of them do not have to take off for children emergencies. I was in Sales Operations for a Call Center and every older person ALWAYS showed up to work and were on time, when the other half did not. The company had about 40% of its workforce in the 40-70 year age range.

Agreed and agreed! The "old school" work ethic is amazing and should not be undervalued by hiring companies!!

Some online applications ask for school graduation date, unfortunately. I wonder what employers think when you leave that blank on their application.

When I didn’t put dates on my resume, I got calls. When I put dates I got none. However, without dates and I was asked when did you work here or there, once they heard them I never heard from them again. Or if I did land an interview, I never got hired for any of them. Which I was very qualified for. So I know they thought oh no, we don’t want someone who’s possibly ready to retire in 10-15 some odd years.

Same here. Had several interviews for positions my qualifications were perfect for, and never heard back.

You can exaggerate a "wee wee bit 🤔😂" on your resume and cover letter. NOt lie!! That's a big huge NO NO NO, but exaggerate a little bit😀

That's my concern as well. I had the same issue back around 2010-2012. I know there were positions I applied for that I was overqualified for & I'm sure they took one look & said nope. I wanted to add back then, hey if I'm applying for this position, that means I want to & am willing to do it. I feel like I'm going to want to do that going forward as well. It's like, hey, I'm not applying for the giggles. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

You still have to put dates on when you worked at places. You just don't need dates for when you received your education.

Yep. This was an issue I had as well. So I have been bartending for the last several years. I happen to look considerably younger than my chronological age, so I generally get hired on an in person basis. That said, once people find out my chronological age they treat me like a criminal who managed to dupe them with lies and deceit. It’s maddening.

Good advice! Also build a network of people throughout your career that can pull you in to their companies. Cold new hires don't usually work. Its who you know. I was hired fulltime at age 64

Great advice. I followed all of the tips from Module 8 and updated my resume. I received more calls from recruiters and had two interviews! I wasn't chosen for the roles but it was good to interview again. I've been looking for a while. Thank you for all the templates and consistent information.

Yay!!! The fact that you're landing interviews means you're resume is impressing "bots" and humans alike! I'm so happy to hear that you're putting this information to good use, @MediterraVegan, and I look forward to hearing your success story! :-)

Thank you so much for giving such wonderful and productive tips and advice on dealing with all types of job search issues and questions. I am about to retire from my 30-year job but want to do some sort of part-time work for a little "play" money. I love your website and receive daily e-mails on job leads. I have been a little insecure in submitting my resume because I've had my casino dealing job for so long and haven't used my clerical skills in years. I do use my computer regularly, but I'm so behind the times on current software knowledge. Your tips on taking courses to familiarize yourself and bring yourself up to speed on these things are very helpful. I'm about to go to Module 8 and all the other modules you've included. Again, thank you for all the helpful information from this mature worker!

This was a great video, I got myself a young and hip gmail account. And removed all references to punch cards, 1/4 in magnetic tape, and COBOL from my resume. Now I'm ready to rock and roll!! Oh, is that an outdated phrase? 😆 Thanks again for the video.

From one well-seasoned professional to another, I really appreciated, and enjoyed this video. I have a current full time job that I physically go to, but I feel that a work from home job may be in my future, for multiple reasons. One of my worries was my age. This video has made me feel better about the whole thing. I feel more prepared for applying for jobs, period, even though I'm older. You made some excellent points & gave some awesome tips. I will definitely keep them in mind in the future. I just started watching your videos tonight, but I will definitely be watching more. I will also be taking advantage of your free tools, modules, & videos. Thanks for making this well-seasoned lady feel empowered!!

Hi Chris, Thankyou for this information. I have had employers ask for my ssn, birthdate, right at the first of applying for their, position. It is very discouraging, because I am older.

Thank you for this video. I’m not an expert, but I would also not use one’s own illness as the employment gap explanation , regardless of age. Thoughts?

    • @ratracerebellionworkfromhome
      @ratracerebellionworkfromhome  3 месяца назад

With the understanding that this is not legal advice, here are my thoughts:
Unexplained gaps in a resume may lead recruiters to draw incorrect conclusions about why you were out of work for an extended period -- perhaps leading them to exclude your application without a chance to explain. (Short medical absences needn't be mentioned.)
Without revealing the nature of the illness, candidates can control the narrative by including an entry for that period, and using that space to detail any skills developed during that time. If you wish, you can include details in your cover letter as well.
You're not required to disclose any medical conditions in an interview and employers are prohibited from asking illness-related questions during a job interview.
That said, if you have a chronic condition that you feel may impact your performance or attendance in a new position, you may want to talk about it early. While some employers may be deterred from hiring you, others will work with you to set up necessary accommodations.

I'm almost 80 and have been working from home as an independent contractor for over
15 years. I have to work. There is no other choice. I am finding most posted jobs are
for full time five days a week as an employee. Do any companies hire independent
contractors anymore? I also am finding that most companies won't let you continue
with an application until you enter a year you graduated from high school or the time frame
you were at a job. Even though age discrimination isn't supposed to be a factor in the
hiring process, it's there. I've had it happen to me. I'm finding this six money break between
contracts is proving to be very difficult in finding a job. I'm beginning to think I won't find one.
