At 71 years old and a lover of Misty for more years than I can shake a stick at, listening to whoever sings it, this version is right up there and destined to be a 'classic' interpretation. It is mesmerizingly, so soulfully beautiful. I would trade 'analising ' it for just listening any day. What a great musician.
I love how Jazz music lovers never say that this sounds better than the original you guys appreciate how an artist makes a song their own and always give credit to the originators weather its the composer, writer or muscians. So beautiful this one never fails
Laufey doesn't credit the instrumental's composer Erroll Garner, or Johnny Burke who added the lyrics. So is your point that she's not a true artist? It's another good cover from her. But the piano harmony isn't as good as Garner's original 1954 performance let alone some dynamite instrumentals since, and her vocal doesn't come close to Johnny Mathis' 1959 version. Covering the American Songbook doesn't make you a jazz titan.

Dear Laufey, Ever since I first heard you, I’ve completely fell in love. The first time I heard “From the Start” I was loosing my mind in how good the tune and lyrics were. You have changed my life in so many ways, but not just me. The lyrics you put into your music are so accurate and beautiful that I can relate to all of it in any occasion. It’s like when that one person looks you in the eyes and you feel like you’re going to shatter into a million pieces and it’s like they understand you just by taking one look into your eyes, and I have never heard any other artist able to express that kind of emotion better than you can. You are an absolute inspiration, a legend of this generation and I hope you get far because music like this could truly change the perspective of someone’s life.
I like your guitar version of this too, but this piano version is such a perfect immortalization of this song. I love the cut to black at the end as the resolution fades out.

A song that's been done a million times as a right of passage by jazz pianists and singers and it can sound tedious, lethargic, and a bit depressing.... but she did a lovely job with it so it was refreshing, scintillating, and captivating.
