- For the very first time we can see the real faces of King Edward II of England a man of limited capability, who he waged a long, hopeless campaign to assert his authority over powerful barons.
We can also admire the real face of Queen Isabella of France, who was also known as the "She-Wolf of France", and also for her diplomatic skills, intelligence, and beauty. Isabella was Queen of England as the wife of King Edward II, and regent of England from 1327 until 1330.
Hi, I've wanted to tell you for a long time that I really love your videos as a big history fan! Could you perhaps imagine making a video about the Beauforts? So the Lancaster bastard line from John of Gaunt and Katherine Swynford. (John Beaufort Earl of Somerset, his son John Beaufort Duke of Somerset, up to Margaret Beaufort)
Where are the black ones, asking for a woke friend..
Always excellent to see in the flesh men and women active around 800 years ago. Thank you.
Astounding work from a visual artist with great vision. You have done a masterpiece of video-history and brought the past to our doorsteps.
Another great video! The Plantagenet Dynasty is so fascinating and you always do it justice.
She-Wolf !!!
I'm loving these English monarch videos because the stories that go with them, the power struggles, are difficult to remember.
Seeing the faces really helps in remembering who deposed who etc.
Would it be too much to ask for the videos of the Angevins and Plantagenets to be put into date order in the Playlist so that we can see the faces in chronological order?
It's interesting to see how the face of She-Wolf would've been cause it was considered the biggest beauty at that time. It was interpreted in Knightfall but I don't know how accurate that was
Knightfall is the most inaccurate
There are good reasons why Isabella the Fair became the she-wolf of France.
Wow this is brilliant, I often wondered what Isabella the "She - Wolf was like!
French Colonists of England.
The music is amazing can you tell me the song title please thank you
I love your videos on the Plantagenets, they’re complex but very interesting characters in their own ways. Thank you!
Could you do a post on Isabella’s father Phillip IV ( the Fair) of France?
Most definitely!
Agreed, and his sons also!
So interesa Ing is the story of Isabella of France, She wolfe.
Thank you as always. An excellent piece of work. They were both quite attractive.
I highly recommend biographies by Kathryn Warner. She's a great researcher and mythbuster, and her main interest is Edward II's personality and relations.
Yes Edward II was supposed to be quite tall and handsome according to contemporary accounts - but he had interests that weren't considered proper back then. I.e he liked rowing and hanging out with commoners rather than hunting and other pursuits.
I love these since researching my family I found I'm desended from the plantagenets Edward 1st being my 22nd great grandfather also Edward II and III then of John of gaunt and Katherine swynford
Probably 2/3 of the English population are descended from the Plantagenets as they had many illegitimate children.
Still interesting tho
That's great, it's always fun to see family lines going that far back and how interconnected we all are.
What branch are you related too ? .
I am not Neil .
Wow, always wanted to see Isabelle the She-Wolf :) Thank you so much :)
My granny princess Marianna Cottone She descents from king Henry II of England but also from Charlemagne and from all the Kings of Wessex too
Isabella & Roger!❤
La 🐺🇫🇷❤
La Loba de Francia. Por favor Nostradamus.
Could the text stay a bit longer? For us who don't have English as first Language. Would be great! 👍😍💛
Another excellent video! Please might I ask, what is the music you used to accompany the video - it complements it so well!
That's exactly what my husband asked me. It gets under your skin it's so good.
The first one is Kaer Morhen by Marcin Przybyłowicz
@@katerinamalacova4789 Thank you!
Isabella was 12 when she landed in a England and married Edward. She was the youngest daughter of Phillip IV of France, quite probably unused to being used and then pushed aside for male buddies of the King, having her wedding jewels and books taken without leave and given to men she despised. Worst of all being left, heavily pregnant on the dock as Edward and Hugh DeSpenser the younger buggered off to escape the angry barons.
I remember asking you for this. Thank you so much. :)
Through my granny princess Marianna Cottone flows french and english Royal Blood in my veins
Some Cottone Houses's member they had Fitzalan name from Shropshire in Coton , Leicester for example Edmund Fitzalan de Cotton or simply Edmund de Cotton
I'm read books Moris Druon about king and queen.Real faces are great!Isabella beautiful and very smart lady, and king Edward 2 sick and lost power,
Now all that’s missing is Edward iii,his wife phillippa Hainault and Their Children Edward the Black prince and Edmund langley are missing To complete the platagenet Dynasty
Indeed 🙂 I wish there was some material for the Normans, but I couldn't find anything.
William Marshall has been mentioned a couple of times. As the champion and defender of multiple kings. He had a pivotal role in this age.
These are great but please do videos on the Anglo-Saxon houses before The Norman Conquest.
Can you please add if possible more about John of Gant and in particular his wife Katharine Swinford. I have had a fascination with her since I was in my early teens, and I would love to be able to see her face
In film they always have edward2 played by a actor with straight black hair and longish face. Very different. Thanks. Isabella is as imagined. 💙
Longshanks was his father was fair headed I think!
This was definitely around the Witcher 3’s timeline (hint the Witcher 3 music)
Could you please consider doing some of the Chinese dynasties like Qing dynasty thank you
Wow - thank you once again for bringing these people to life !! ✨✨✨
Wow another brilliant video, so enjoying these.
Incredibly well done.
Edward III and Isabella were my GGP and she had an affair with Roger Mortimer who was also my GGF from the King Llywellyn line. All such incredible History.
Wonderful project!!! It can be still interesting to know more about English Monarchs of any era.. I am always wondering why Edward was First by numerical order? Edward the Elder and Edward the Confessor were Kings of England without numbers? 🤔(curious).. Thank you very much for your serious job, by the way!!!!
Thanks 👍. That's a good observation. It must be a dynasty thing as the first were Anglo-Saxons and the other Norman, French speaking Plantagenets.
that is a good point :
firstly Edward the Elder was not king of all England, just King of the Saxons, as the Vikings still held York and some portion of the East.
It is a mystery to me why Edward the Confessor is not Edward I,
as he is King of England.
in the time of the earlier House of Wessex, Alfred the Great, and his son Edward the Elder, they were still fighting off Vikings and unifying their country and the Saxon tribes. It is disputed even if Edward the Elder and his father Alfred the Great were indeed Kings of all Saxons, as some of the neighboring kings to Wessex, King of Mercia, did not necessarily agree to accept Wessex overlordship.
Some historians say that Alfred and Edward the Elder had very good spin doctors 😉😉
The first actual "King of England" was neither Alfred or son Edward, but Edward the Elder's son Aethelstan. He was a great king and for some reason is overlooked sometimes,
and for some reason, there is no other Aethelstan to follow up. It was in his time that the Vikings finally left there English colony.
It is not a dynasty thing as Henry VII was part of the new Tudor Dynasty. so that's a very good question in relation to Edward the Confessor
@@chocho8036 the crown known as the st edward crown i think that edward wore was named after edward thd confessor
You are great, love from India 🤗🥰
Namaste 🙂!
@@panagiotisconstantinou Gudd 🥰👍
Saving Edward III aka the best until last I see
Will you do medieval Scottish kings?
Of course 🙂!
Isabella was very pretty!
Always wondered what William Wallace looked like
Loved this one! Thank you! ❤️❤️
Thank you sooo much for your talent and for your work, i truly enjoy all of your video! Thank you, again!
Amazing!
Fantastic visuals and history. Thank you very much
Complicated family. People in places and positions they just didn’t want to be. Wish Ted and Piers had just eloped one night, and made their way to a tropical beach in Siam, to live in the jungle, drink coconuts and never be heard of again.
Thank you. Another wonderful video. How did you get interested in this art form?
Well done.
Love your work, but I think you got Isabella wrong. She was the daughter of Philip the Fair and said to have been exceedingly beautiful. This woman does not measure up.
These my ancestors they belong to the House of Cottone Since Sir John de Cotentin Duke of Normandy and Cornwall in 1042 A.D. and through his son William de Cotentin also called William de Cotton and through Henry de Cotton too, for example many kings called Edward they are Edward de Also know as Edward de Cottone
I just found out they were my 20th greatgrand parents last night and now I see their faces for the first time. I started crying.
Good job as always 🌷🌷🌷
So It means king Henry Il of England he was a Cottone Houses's member and his real complete name is Henry de Cotton or Henry de Cottone
I descent from them through my granny princess Marianna Cottone
William de Cotentin also known as William de Cotton or Cottone he was married to Isabella de Leon y Castilla daughter of Herve de Leon y Castilla and his wife Lithuise de Navarre
It is amazing to see these people I've studied and explored brought back to life... You know what I mean.
Queen Isabela is one of my favorite figures from history. It is sad that the epithet "She-Wolf" came after her death to describe her as an evil seductress, schemer, and murder... murderess of Edward II. The She-Wolf particularly came to light in later years as Edward III, feeling torn between his severely mistreated mother and his obviously-wrong-but-still-his-king-and-father, built a magnificent mauseleum (the one on which Edward's likeness in this post is modelled on). NAturally Edward II, as the first king in Norman England to be removed from power, and by a women and a French (enemy) woman at that, and the rest is history.
King Edward II and Queen Isabella are my Grandparents. So happy to see them brought to life
My ! for your age you are doing really very well !
@@welshpete12 I don't think ppl wanted to see how many times I would have typed in Great Grand Parents . I am very proud to be descended from them. Especially Queen Isabella.
What branch do you descend from ?
I am not Neil .
👏👏👏👏👏👏
So It means also the House of Cottone Is linked to the House of Stewart too
Edward was said to have had a slight cast in one eye. Otherwise, this is exactly how I'd always imagined him looking -- gullible, and frankly a bit dim.
this guy looks like my husband 😮
0:35 So he is not a "gentle son" after all.
Beautiful work!
Thank you very much!
I totally agree as the main Plantagenet bloodline ended with Richard II and later the mix of York and Lancaster the Tudors ended with Elizabeth I. You can clearly see that the monarchs who followed weren't so dynamic and energetic.
You took a picture of Edward III
My ggp's, oh thank you!!
What violin music name is?
Bro where is Edward 3
What music is this?
EXCELLENT!!!!
B
I could see Jennifer Lawrence playing Isabella in this role if a movie on Edward II is ever made!
THESE ALL LOOK MUCH BETTER WITHOUT THE TEETH (AND THE OCCASIONAL CROSSED EYES). OTHERWISE, REALLY, REALLY GOOD!
I understand now why Edward II had a boyfriend......
i can't imagine how angry and hurt Isabella must have been that she was married to a man who couldn't be in love with her.
it's not strictly true. i have read a lot of books and material on the subject, and it is complex.
Edward and Isabella were married and had four children and had a strong relationship for almost ten years , after Gaveston died and until Edward fell for Despenser. Actually many historians do believe that he did love her in his way, and theer is proof they were often together
and there are many very affectionate letters when they were ever apart.
Ten years is not a bad amount of time, longer than many love relationships and she was indeed shocked to be supplanted
as she did believe that he was hers.
Gaveston died when Isabella was only seventeen, she was just a kid when she married Edward so no one expected that they would be all that close for awhile as he was already 23. It is doubtful that his relationship to Gaveston was all that important to her as she became an adult
and took the place of Gaveston , especially since she had their first son Edward III,
just six months after Gaveston died, in a time which began the bonding of Edward and Isabella as a couple.
She was his main confidant those years.
there's all kinds of intimate love...also, Edward did have mistresses as well, not just men, he had at least one illegitimate child, and some believe that he was having an affair with his favorite niece, Eleanor de Clare with whom he spent a GREAT DEAL of alone time.
He certainly made four kids with Isabella, which does take some sexual enthusiasm and getting pregnant is not always the easiest for some
Medival mariage not love medivial mariage politic. their fathers edward I and philip IV make peace two counrty edward II have not pareantal love his Mother died 6 years old father edward I abusive hım he dont like war and soldier 46 year age younger than father difrent way politic
