The Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 image sensor used in the A229 Pro does not have a native 2K resolution. VIOFO has stated they will be improving the 2K video resolution for the A229 Pro in a future firmware release.

What’s the best dashcam in current market I’m struggling between viofo mini 2 vs 229 pro 2 ch
I saw lot of videos where it’s saying mini 2 has 60 fps which can capture number plate more accurately, though the other one is available with rear cam
Your video is 6 months old is there any change in the market, which cam is best according to you please suggest me one?
    Thanks in advance

The A119 Mini 2 still has the best HDR implementation of the Sony STARVIS 2 dash cameras on the market. With the A229 Plus having the same IMX675 image sensor, you would think the HDR (nighttime) would be the same as the A119 Mini 2, but it's not. The A229 Pro HDR nighttime video capture with HDR enabled is still lagging behind the A119 Mini 2, but it has improved over the past six months. 60 FPS will not be available when HDR is enabled. You will only be able to use 30 FPS when the HDR feature is enabled (for any manufacturer's dash camera). That means you can use 60 FPS during daytime and 30 fps at night with HDR enabled.

@@RetroCarGuy530 thanks for the suggestion. So overall, mini 2 is still better then A229 plus and even pro right
Also, should I purchase 2 mini 2 one for front and one for rear or is there any better option
      Thanks again

@@nilaypatel3069 At this point in time, the A119 Mini 2 is hard to beat. I have an A229 Pro 2-channel (front / rear) in my wife's car and I have an A229 Plus 2-channel (front / rear) in a second car. Both are decent dash cameras, but the A119 Mini 2 currently has the best HDR implementation of the three. VIOFO has just released a v1.3 BETA firmware for the A229 Pro/Plus dash cameras with additional controls for when/if HDR is enabled/disabled for the front/rear cameras and it supports their new 3-button Bluetooth button. You can assign user selected functions for buttons 2 and 3. Here's a link to a VIOFO blog post about the v1.3 beta firmware: viofo.com/blog/firmware-updates-viofo-a229-pro-a229-plus-version-v13-beta-b119.html
Running two A119 Mini 2 dash cameras means you'll need two HK4 hardwire kits, two CPL filters (if needed) and two memory cards. Just keep that in mind for the total cost of ownership when making your decision. VIOFO is also releasing a telephoto "rear" camera for the A229 Pro/Plus which helps capture license plates more clearly. They're also releasing an external rear camera for the A229 Pro/Plus that might be more appropriate for certain vehicles (large trucks / commercial vehicles).

Hi. I have the option of getting the A229 plus or A119 mini 2. I do like the rear camera but whenever I see comparisons the A119 mini 2 does better?

At the moment, the A119 Mini 2 firmware seems to be optimized the best for the IMX675 image sensor. The A229 Plus should continue to improve with each firmware update. If you only need a one-channel dash camera, the A119 Mini 2 is hard to beat.

Thank you. If I am not mistaken doesn’t all “blogs” 😅 recommend both front and rear?

I also recommend front and rear dash cameras if appropriate for the vehicle type.

@@eli57398 some vehicles don't have a rear window in a position to place a rear camera (some pickup trucks and most if not all convertibles).

has this been corrected yet? i've been searching trying to find the bitrates for each cam. the 119 is tasteful because it can run 60fps in 2K mode where the 229 is only 30. question is, which has better quality at night, 229 at 4k/30, or 119 at 2k/60 and what are the bit rates?

The A229 Pro firmware has been getting updated on a regular basis. It's very good during daylight hours and getting very good (overall) during nighttime hours with HDR on. One of the main features of the A119 Mini 2 is its great nighttime footage with HDR enabled. Enabling HDR will drop the frame rate from 60 to 30 fps. The A229 Pro does not support 60 fps in 4K and the IMX678 front image sensor doesn't natively support 2K QHD resolution.
You may want to look at the A229 Plus 2CH (front + rear). The A229 Plus has the IMX675 2K QHD image sensor and it will operate in 2K QHD 60 fps (front) and 2K QHD 30 fps (rear). When you enable HDR, the front camera will drop to 30 fps as well like the A119 Mini 2. You can use the HDR timer feature to turn off HDR during the day which will allow the use of 60 fps and turn on the HDR feature at night (time schedule based) which will automatically drop the front camera to 30 fps. The HDR timer feature is present in the A119 Mini 2, A229 Plus and A229 Pro dash cameras.

the 1/1.8 sensor should stomp all over the 1/2.8, at least in the surveillance world, but the videos i've seen when the 229 drops dowm to 2K from 4K it looks horrible. i'm looking for the best night performance for license plates and the ability to zoom in during the day to get a clearer plate. ultimately want the best 2ch setup. @@RetroCarGuy530
