Dr Calire Weekes was an angel. Her book Hope and Help for your Nerves is life changing.

I had agoraphobia and panic attacks years ago before any doctors really knew what it was..I read Claire Weekes' books and my life changed ..I still have it a bit but now can go out and I'm not stuck in the house all the time.

    Very well done guidance.
Only thing I'd say is it finishes with (about the duration of a panic attack) "I can't tell you how long it'll take ((to pass)"
In fact as I'm sure Paul Foxman knows one can give a general answer to how long it'll take, depending on the intensity of the attack, caffeine intake accentuating it, etc.
In fact I propose that a good method is to expose oneself to a frightening situation in a controllable situation to eat up some the anxiety or panic time in a CONTROLLABLE situation one can back off from before soon afterwards facing an UNCONTROLLABLE situation.
Example: Patient doesn't like heights and cannot get on a plane either.
So first find a high building and walk up the stairs which are chosen to have windows.
They go higher and become anxious.
When it becomes too much they can simply turn around and descend, until they're comfortable enough to ascend again, hopefully higher this time.
Essentially staying in a state of waves of high tension until the time limited anxiety is passed and a feeling of real relief arrives.
THEN one can go to the preplanned UNCONTROLLABLE situation........a plane flight, with the much or all of the panic time behind them.
Same goes for heavy exercise.......try to be on an endorphin relaxation when facing a challenge the first time.
    Good luck to all.....it's doable!

She was not a psychiatrist--she was a GP-she knew how to deal with anxiety because she herself had it.

A doctor of science too! Ultimately, blessed with an open, curious, enquiring mind vs a worried one.

      Hello!
I don't think breathing techniques help.
