I don’t think that Eldarion and his sisters had any choice. As far as I understand, in the half-elven line every generation can choose to become mortal - but if any chooses mortality, the fates of their children is sealed. That’s why Elrond’s children can still choose, but Elros’s offspring remains mortal even though they don’t like it further down the line.
I think it also makes sense because Arwen had become Mortal BY THE TIME Eldarion and co. were conceived. I feel like the reason that the witch king of Angmar was able to be destroyed by the female character, whose name I cannot remember is because for thousands of years he has believed that he cannot be killed by any man and he says it to her, ‘ no man can kill me!’ And so when she says “I am no man“ and takes off her helmet, revealing herself as a woman, the witch king realizes in that moment something he has never considered before ever, and that the prophecy isn’t saying that he cannot be killed just that he can’t be killed by a man, so he dies, because he is completely shocked, and believes because of repeating the prophecy in his head over and over and over for thousands of years that he’s been beat because he believes the prophecy so much that it’s like a physical object when it’s revealed to him as being something other than what he has thought it was forever and ever and ever he creates his own demise in the realization that the way he interpreted the prophecy. I find we know close to nothing about the Nazgul, even their names, very thematic. Yes, as the comments will show, Gwaihir was tasked with bearing messages to Orthanc so it wasn't a complete coincidence. It was however a coincidence that he should return to Orthanc when Gandalf happened to be imprisoned there. Had he been a few days earlier then he would have missed Gandalf. The point being, Gandalf did not send for aid. He got lucky that Gwaihir was returning information after the wizard had been captured.
"If you have a question and it's NOT why didn't the Eagles fly the ring to Mordor" made me laugh. That question has become infamous among Tolkien fans :)
Before arriving to Isengard, Gandalf asked Radagast to send messengers to Orthanc, that’s why it was no coincidence that Gwaihir saw Gandalf on the top of the tower: “Send out messages to all the beasts and birds that are your friends. Tell them to bring news of anything that bears on this matter to Saruman and Gandalf. Let messages be sent to Orthanc.” (Gandalf, in The Council of Elrond, book 2, chapter 2)
Couple points to correct. Gwaihir finds Gandalf at Orthanc because Radagast sent him there (by Gandalfs request earlier on Radagasts mission to find Gandalf). Next the river rises up @ Elrond's command. Elrond has one of the 3 and it's implied he's using his. This wipes out 4 or 5 Nazgul and Glorfindal and Aragorn arrive behind the others and scare the rest of them in the river (by Glorfindals aura and torches???). Legolas says he is "as old" as several lifetimes of great oaks, take that for whatever it's worth. Good vid.
Once again thank you so much for making this episode and the next ones Galu and Jess. It's very well edited and explained. Though it saddens me we won't get the same format for the 3 hobbit movies, this is still excellent videos.
Jessica is quite patient with Galu not understanding the wording and intent behind many of her questions. That snirk when she said about Aragorn “he could have gone a little bit longer that’s nearly halfway” is what we all said at some point.
Please don't worry about presenting very basic queries. I've been reading Tolkien for well over 30 years and I STILL find it v interesting to cogitate on Arda's minutiae.
Gandalf also (in The Hobbit) is mentioned as having cured the (unnamed) Lord of the Eagles of a wound. Some discussion as to whether that is Gwaihir or (one of?) his predecessors.
Ooooh, this is a great continuation of the previous series. The series answering questions about Rings of Power was fantastic, greatly looking forward to watching these as well
Because of intrinsic things having to do with “good and evil”, usually evil characters are potentially more powerful (they tend to push their power to its limits, they don’t hold back)
You gave an incomplete answer as to where Isildur was going. Yes he was going to Rivendell but it wasn't to get his wife and kids back after the last alliance. It was a year later and he was going to surrender the Ring to Elrond after coming to realise that he was incapable of mastering the Ring. A detail that I missed for 20 years. It's quite tragic that he had the wisdom to realise the Ring shouldn't stay with him but that his attempt to give it to Elrond got him killed.
Gwaihir finding Gandalf on top of Orthanc was not a coincedence. Gandalf met Radagast earlier in the story whilest travelling on the Greenway and told him to send out birds as messengers to Saruman. Gandalf wanted to get news about the whereabouts of the Nazgul.
Welcome back. 1) RE Frodo's parents boat incident - Hobbit theory: a) Drogo's weight sunk the boat; b) his mother Primula pushed Drogo in and he pulled her in with him. 2) Bilbo - he DID go to the Lonely Mountain and Dale before returning to settle in Imladris. Balin had already left for Khazad-dum. 3) Saruman - he made his own ring and declared himself 'Saruman of Many Colours'. To which Gandalf replies, 'I liked white better', and added one of Tolkien's greatest declarations against the science of Saruman: 'he that breaks a thing to find out what it is has left the path of wisdom.' 4) RE Gwaihir - Following Gandalf's previous instruction to Radagast to 'send out all beasts and birds and tell them to bring news to Orthanc', Gwaihir was in Orthanc to report his findings. 5) Nargothrond - there's a cool ancillary in DaC: cloak_nargothrond. Is that yours Galu? 6) Dwavres & Rings - they came to Imladris NOT for news of Balin, but to warn Bilbo that a messenger of Mordor had come asking about 'hobbits', offering to return 3 of the Dwarven rings in exchange for information. 7) Celebrimbor - didn't build the doors of Moria, which were made by the dwarf Narvi. Celebrimbor merely 'drew these signs'. 8) The Watcher in the Water - wasn't it Maiar, similar to the Balrogs? 9) Legolas - wasn't his mum captured/killed by Gundabad orcs?
On the subject of the creature in the lake... Was Tolkien there making a reference to HP Lovecraft? The creature in the movie looks positively Lovecraftian but off the top of my head I can't remember what's it like in the book. And a name like "The Watcher in the Water" is pure Lovecraft too.
As far as I'm aware, there's no evidence that Tolkien ever read Lovecraft. Tolkien was into Old English sagas and Norse epics. Don't think stuff published in American pulp was in his orbit tbh.
The Shire is actually pretty big. Hobbits also live in Bree and the surrounding areas. The Hobbits are not incorruptible, they do have some resistance because they don’t really crave power. The main thing about them is, they have little power of their own. If they did become corrupted, they would be far less dangerous.
I think at times when you mention something happens because Tolkien needed them to happen for the story you are forgetting that Tolkien’s worldview always wants to and assumes that good actions can happen by apparent chance because of divine providence, the way the ring is destroyed in the end of ROTK follows this, in Tolkien’s views the ultimate good is God and he wouldn’t want a hero who did everything perfectly instead he would want God to guide the story to the ultimate good
On the subject of Uruk-hai, it is worth noting that the word "Uruk-hai" is just black speech for "orc folk". In this sense, it is not at all surprising that there are uruk-hai in Isengard and Mordor, though it is not adequately explained why the term is sometimes used to distinguish specific varieties of orcs from others.
I always assumed the witch kings physical form was destroyed at the Peleanor (similar to what we saw with the river outside Rivendell) but the ring was destroyed before he had time to return to physical form? Hence Eowyn and Merry being the (last) slayers of the witch king
Radagast sent the eagle to bring word to gandalf, not knowing he was captured (gandalf asked him to send word after the brown wizard delivered his message from the white wizard). It was not coincidence.
Gwaihir also owed Gandalf for saving his life at some point before the Hobbit when he was shot by a Valesman. Assuming the lead Eagle in the Hobbit is Gwaihir, which is probable. As for Aragorn and Arwen's children, the choice was given up to the second generation, so Elrond and Arwen get to choose, but Eldarion doesn't because he's not born from an Elf and a Man, he's born from a Peredhil and a Man (who also has a tiny bit of Elf in him). On the topic of Elves vs Dwarves, the only major bit of that we get in LotR is from Celeborn, who personally survived the whole Thingol incident and ever after was anti-Dwarf to the point of refusing ever to visit Khazad-Dum even when he lived in Hollin. Galadriel outright tells him off for doing it to Gimli because obviously Gimli had nothing to do with it.
You get the sense that Legolas is on the younger side of elves, he never once mentions Beleriand and kinda implies he's never even seen the sea, maybe he is much older and just doesn't care to mention it but it is frustrating reading the books how little Legolas even says through the whole story
He's a Silvan Elf. After the fall of Beleriand, they chose to stay in Middle Earth because of their love for the trees, although it's suggested that they too are leaving as the years pass. Legolas specifically mentions that his first encounter with the sea awakens the longing within him to sail West, which he eventually does, bringing Gimli with him (as a Dwarf, he gets a special pass, possibly arranged by Galadriel!).
Eagles are also known for their symbolic value, not just their convenience as plot devices. They are often depicted as guardians, with serpents (wyrms) in their beaks, as a symbol of lights victory over evil. They could also symbolize the ressurection of Christ, considering the moments they appear in the books. Furthermore, they also symbolize the royal virtue of justice and the sins of arrogance, probably because their eyes are set on far away objects (goals), while turning away from the demands of the day.
I thought the sauron was more powerful because he wasnt limited to a human form. I can't remember where it's said but the istari are essentially nerfed as they have human emotions and their strongest magic cannot be used as it would destroy their form.
Frodo’s parents died in a boat accident, yes. Hobbits make jokes about it in the Green Dragon, saying that Drogo was too fat (and some even suggest that Frodo’s mother tried to kill Drogo pushing him off the boat, but then he pulled her with him and both died)
Sauron is in a physcial form inside the tower of Barad Dur using a Palantir, you can see him in his physical form wit the palantir when Aragorn confronts him with the Palantir in Minas Tirith in the Extended Edition of the Return of the King.
@@MarkGlowInTheDark Yeh, you can see Sauron holding a Palantir inside the Palantir Aragorn is holding. This happens right before Aragorn goes to the black gate and confronts Sauron with the Palantir showing him Anduril.
@@SpiritofFeanor indeed you are right although they show him in his human form holding the palantir, (form film purposes they gave him his last Alliance form which is good although in real life het looks horrendous but for the film its good
A quick question about sauropod and sauroman serving/learning from Aüle, did they actually know each other in Arda? So when they spoke or communicated trough the Palantir, was it more like "hello sauron, long time no see"?
On the subject of the doors... Even the tomb of Balin i think is not written in Dwarvish, and the fact that it states "here lies Balin... " just goes to show the secrecy of the language as it wasn't even his Dwarven name.
In the hobbit cartoon movie, The eagle lord says Gandalf helped him after he was shot down by a hunter or something.. was that just something they made up then? ^^
Wait, doesnt it explain moria elvish inscription on the door? That it was a door for elves to come to moria for trade, so elves would open it by talking in their own language?
Question - Why did stupid Aragon leave the hobbits to be attacked on top of the watch tower ... because Frodo must die / go to the west ? and why didn't they defend the tower on the narrow path, armed with fire.. instead of doing nothing on the top ? poor tactics.
When you talked about the Silmarils and Dwarf-Elf conflict, you say the Elven King had the Dwarves craft his crown as they were the best smiths. Why then, I would like to ask, did Sauron/Annatar get the elves to craft his rings, not the Dwarves?
Eldarion was half elven but I think it states he ruled for 100 or 200 years... 100 most likely which suggests that he chose to be of men, not sure about his siblings.

Why didnt sauron go north and search for some drakes/dragons (if they were any) | When Sauron was revealed as returned why didn't the elves all join together to show him the back door? | Why do the eagles suck and didnt take the ring to mt doom lol
Just watched the two towers, so already a question for the next video: why did Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas abandon their pursuit of Peppin and Merry after encountering Gandalf the white? Gandalf didn't tell them that the hobbits were alright, and they are very surprised by that when they do find out in Isengard. So weird to see them just casually changing their plans and going to Edoras.
And in the book chapter "The White Rider" there are a couple of pages where The Three Hunters and Gandalf discuss Merry and Pippin being safe enough with the Ents while they head off to deal with Rohan at Edoras.
Two points: 1. He DOES say that Merry and Pippin are safe. "Merry and Pippin are quite safe. In fact they are far safer than you are about to be!" 2. He also tells them that Merry and Pippin are serving a purpose by being in Fangorn. "The falling of small stones that starts an avalanche". In any case, they all trust Gandalf implicitly. If Gandalf tells them they don't need to keep chasing the hobbits and instead need to be doing something else, they'll all take his word for it.
The prophecy was not that the Witch King could not be killed by a man, but that he would not be. After Merry stabbed him with that blade literally anyone could have killed him.
There is a lot more that you are wrong about. I’m not trying to be picky, but you should really do more research before you make a video such as this.

Sauron is most powerful Maiar because he learns from Morgoth, it's kinda like the dark side, easier quicker, more seductive and destructive. Perhaps Morgoth poured a little bit of his power into Sauron as well once he knew he would be defeated, look at the Balrogs etc.

Gwaihir was sent by Radagast to Orthanc. His mission was to bring news/intelligence to Orthanc, which led him to discover Gandalf.
Thoroughly enjoying this series! I love the podcast q&a style
In the Hobbit, the Eagle is happy to repay gandalf for saving him from a hunters arrow.
That's how they knew each other
Welcome back.
To which Gandalf replies, 'I liked white better', and added one of Tolkien's greatest declarations against the science of Saruman: 'he that breaks a thing to find out what it is has left the path of wisdom.'
4) RE Gwaihir - Following Gandalf's previous instruction to Radagast to 'send out all beasts and birds and tell them to bring news to Orthanc', Gwaihir was in Orthanc to report his findings.
This was very fun! So glad you two decided to do this!
Gandalf saved Gwaihir from a poisonous arrow, and they were friends ever since.
"The Silmarills fell into the hands of Thingol in Nargothrond, and he put them in a crown"
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Thingol was in Doriath, not in Nargothrond I think.
Good video idea m8, was enjoying these little "missing info" episodes. good job jess ty ty
Greatest films ever made can’t wait to see how you break these down. The hobbit films have got to follow surely!
Not sure even Jess can persuade Galu to care enough about the Hobbit films
@@martinpakes5436 true but 3 more videos would be lovely
@@gameofghost5762 I agree :)
After Rings of Power, you watch the Hobbit fims - they're pretty good 👍
Redardind elf’s vs the dwarfs so gloin when legolas tells the information about gollum you were not so kind regarding me remembering he’s captivity.
Another great video such a shame you are closing down .
Doesn’t Gandalf help Gwahir recover from a wound, maybe a poisoned wound?
The eagles are not plot devices, they are the means of divine intervention.
Wait, so if i understood it well, the Eye of Sauron was just Peter Jackson’s idea? I always thought that i know everything about the Third Age.
Sauron is in a physcial form inside the tower of Barad Dur using a Palantir, you can see him in his physical form wit the palantir when Aragorn confronts him with the Palantir in Minas Tirith in the Extended Edition of the Return of the King.
@@SpiritofFeanor if this is true i actually didn't knew that. and it has been ages since i last saw the extended edition
@@MarkGlowInTheDark Yeh, you can see Sauron holding a Palantir inside the Palantir Aragorn is holding. This happens right before Aragorn goes to the black gate and confronts Sauron with the Palantir showing him Anduril.
@@SpiritofFeanor indeed you are right although they show him in his human form holding the palantir, (form film purposes they gave him his last Alliance form which is good although in real life het looks horrendous but for the film its good
Saruman being weaker than Sauron can be explained by Saruman having a physical mortal body with all its needs and drawbacks
Saruman and Sauron are the same beings: Maiar. Both can shape-shifting and choose their own bodies.
And there was much rejoicing (yayyy)
A quick question about sauropod and sauroman serving/learning from Aüle, did they actually know each other in Arda? So when they spoke or communicated trough the Palantir, was it more like "hello sauron, long time no see"?
On the subject of the doors...
Even the tomb of Balin i think is not written in Dwarvish, and the fact that it states "here lies Balin... " just goes to show the secrecy of the language as it wasn't even his Dwarven name.
Gandalf helped gwahir with a sickness
if i recall Radagast sends Gwaihir to save Gandalf
In the hobbit cartoon movie, The eagle lord says Gandalf helped him after he was shot down by a hunter or something.. was that just something they made up then? ^^
Legolas does mention in The Two Towers that he has seen 500 years (talking about the origin of Rohan), so that is a canon minimum.
In the book or en the film?
@@MarkGlowInTheDark book
Wait, doesnt it explain moria elvish inscription on the door? That it was a door for elves to come to moria for trade, so elves would open it by talking in their own language?
Question - Why did stupid Aragon leave the hobbits to be attacked on top of the watch tower ... because Frodo must die / go to the west ? and why didn't they defend the tower on the narrow path, armed with fire.. instead of doing nothing on the top ? poor tactics.
In the book bilbo does go to erebor again and Dale
When you talked about the Silmarils and Dwarf-Elf conflict, you say the Elven King had the Dwarves craft his crown as they were the best smiths. Why then, I would like to ask, did Sauron/Annatar get the elves to craft his rings, not the Dwarves?
Hi half orc and lovely elf :)
Hi Galu, do you think adding glorfindel, imrahil and bombadil would have improved the films?
He's clearly indicating he is at least reconciled to the majority of the adaptation changes.
@@martinpakes5436 thanks but I was looking for Galu’s opinion but the mouth of Galu has spoken I guess
Eldarion was half elven but I think it states he ruled for 100 or 200 years... 100 most likely which suggests that he chose to be of men, not sure about his siblings.
100.. until the year 220..
And was spoken about for a bit.
Goblins are more deformed Orcs, thus they stay in the darkness while Orcs are better for travel on the surface ?
What examples of rangers still exist beside Aragorn and are there more from a similar bloodline?
We really don't know. Only Halbarad (who dies at the Pelennor) is mentioned iirc. We do hear that Elrond's two sons also travel with the Rangers.
Gandalf pulled an arrow out of Gwahir's wing...C'mon dude lol
I dont care anymore. I just don't care. It was a bit of fun but as usual the fans emerge from all over to lovingly tell me to stop making videos.
@ nah you should care! We're watching because we enjoy it. But, as you know...we Tolkien fans love our accuracies, which you are generally honed to.
Try not to take RUclips comments personally. Most are made in jest and would not be taken seriously if said between friends in-person around a table of cards ;)
@Chism Tuggle Well I don't anymore. Hence why these are the last videos on the channel. I am off.
@ I shall miss seeing your videos! You're one of the few LOTR channels I am actually subscribed to!
Take care and God bless in all future endeavors!
Forgive me. I have rather overreacted to your comment.
Lashing out at you for something wholly unrelated. I am sorry, it is inexcusable. Thank you for the kind words. Best wishes to you as well sir.
Great video!
Also, does it make sense that the Witch-King dies because he for once is afraid?
Why didnt sauron go north and search for some drakes/dragons (if they were any) | When Sauron was revealed as returned why didn't the elves all join together to show him the back door? | Why do the eagles suck and didnt take the ring to mt doom lol
First the like then the watch ☺️
Just watched the two towers, so already a question for the next video: why did Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas abandon their pursuit of Peppin and Merry after encountering Gandalf the white? Gandalf didn't tell them that the hobbits were alright, and they are very surprised by that when they do find out in Isengard. So weird to see them just casually changing their plans and going to Edoras.
Hey, I presume Gandalf told them he'd met them, and sent them with Treebeard 🤗
@@sonnydwyer7 if i remember it correctly Sonny hes answer is correct. Gandalf knows about the whereabouts of Merry and Pippin and trusts Treebeard
This video is for fun off the top of my head. It is not intended to be a lecture on Tolkien's topics. I have countless deeply researched videos on the channel. This is just for fun. Chill out.
Channel farewell? No I don't! :(
Thanks for doing this
What are you drinking?
Vimto.
😂
First?!!
Sauron is most powerful Maiar because he learns from Morgoth, it's kinda like the dark side, easier quicker, more seductive and destructive. Perhaps Morgoth poured a little bit of his power into Sauron as well once he knew he would be defeated, look at the Balrogs etc.
Bro divide and conquer mod wait for you ;)
I haven't been a part of DaC for over 1.5 years.
