Right around where you are camping on the north side of the beach used to be a hill climb that went up that mountain. In the 70's used to be a trail that went up that mountain all the locals and others when camping and surf fishing would try and climb it with their 4x4's some made some didn't it has grown over now but I heard you can still see it if you know where to look. I worked on a commercial fishing boat and when anchored back then you could watch all the partying and 4x4's trying to climb the hill fun times.
I've always wanted to go there. I've backpacked The Lost Coast and it was incredible, but I still really want to hit Usal. I remember seeing threads on Yotatech where folks wheeled to Usal Beach. The pictures that they'd shared were gorgeous. My hope is to get my beater Subaru built up enough to get out there. I'll maybe go up from a 1" lift to a 2" lift and a locker before I think that it'll be not completely unwise to take out there. Also, it's always nice to find a fellow weirdo who likes to go to gorgeous places and go running there.
Your Suby should be fine the way it is. Just a couple rough patches. I saw Priuses rollin out there. Yeah run up the trail toward shelter cove. Just don’t drink 6 beers before like I did. It’s a super fun run
@@SamwiseOutdoorsare you on Strava? You can see my nutty runs @ Brian Morrisey on there. I subbed your channel. I used to backpack a lot but haven’t in years.
Looks like a fun trip! On the todo list for sure.
@@fourwheeltravel yeah had a perfect weekend! It was also on my list for over a year.
Probably driving on the beach was the highlight of the trip

Oh man! Sounds precious! Would have loved to see the 4x4s trying and make it up that bank! Looked steep as hell!

@@SamwiseOutdoors yeah I know it gets a bad rep, but it is really a magical place

@@backwoodzbuddha 6 beers before a run sounds like my last morning in Kauai, lol.

@@backwoodzbuddha I'm not on Strava, sadly. I've been on Runtastic/Adidas Running for years and I'm afraid to change apps and lose all of my stats.
