I’m a Dark Souls vet (been playing since the Japanese PS3 days) & have been enjoying it. There seem to be a lot of newcomers on-line. I’ve been playing low level cooperative & am happy to say that I’ve not met any of the notorious trolls/griefers that the other console versions have been known for. All should give it a try.
I want to get it but if I win the eShop price I will get a lot of nindies games oh and MegaMan X lol

Correction: Actually the game saves automatically not only at a bonefire.A bonefire acts as a checkpoint meaning if u die you will respawn at the bonefire you last sat at.

Mike he clearly didn’t play this one past undead burg. Only early footage, has NO CLUE how invading works and tells us all it actually works opposite says the story is “good vs evil” etc. It sucks. I like his channel but it’s becoming very clear he doesn’t play the majority of the games he reviews more than an hour or two

if we were scrubs, we wouldnt know it was 10%. I mean, Darkroot, New Londo, Undead Burg and the beginning of Sens Fortress are all different looking places. but for all the scrubs out there, all those places can be reached in the beginning of the game. homeboy didnt get far at all.

Well, the button mapping is just like the original. It's annoying for people who are used to the Switch layout but for Dark Souls veterans I guess it is a relieve ^^

A word of advice to those having trouble with backstabs/post parry attacks; hold the R button in. Don’t just press/tap it. Hold it in. It catches the animation better.

The A / B button mapping thing is incredibly annoying.
Now there's a complaint that I can get behind. The A/B button swapping was driving me crazy at first. Perhaps Bandai will release a patch in the future?
@Fantasy Worlds correct me if I am wrong, but believe you can remap every button except for confirmation in menus mapped to B and cancel mapped to A.

My favorite series, almost feels like survival horror in some aspect with the tenseness and not knowing what is around each corner.

Ya it auto saves every soul you get I think, I killed the 7 headed water serpent but then the game crashed so I restarted and its saves everything.

yeah, occasionally if you do something stupid you can close the game and start right before you screwed up, but it saves after just about everything you do.
yes, I remember my first run. I was stupid and killed solaire and Blacksmith Andre :DDDDDDD. Still I played through the game even if the game was fucked up at this time :DDDDDDD. Now my 2nd run is with the switch and I now killed the 4 Kings. next is seth. I can tell you all, the game is fun on the switch. I play offline and just play about 30 mins before going to sleep :). this is nice :).

I pre-ordered the game back in February and it finally got here on release day. I agree wholeheartedly with your review. I have no idea where the hate is coming from. I've heard complaints about the sound compression to terrible frame rates in handheld mode. Personally? I haven't experienced either of those.

Yeah my version played and sounded fine. But I saw switchwatch playing it and the game sounded truly awful. When I played it, sounded fine. Could it have sounded better? Ehh sure but it wasn't THAT bad
I've only had one problem while being invaded early on in my first time playing through Undead Burg yesterday. A guy using a weapon from way later in the game (I forget the actual name of it but, it's a giant's weapon that you can get) He would be able to hit me with it while not being close to me at all. I was still able to pull through and beat him tho. I feel it was from internet connection and not the game itself. This was followed by another invader who killed himself by rolling off the edge haha. But, the game works and plays great and I feel it was woth the wait. I'm taking my time with it this time. I just killed the hydra but, since then I have had no frame rate drops or anything else people are saying have happened.

@P R Or perhaps that kind of thing just doesn't matter to me. I'm no audiophile that nitpicks over every sound byte. Nor am I of the PC Master Race that believes consoles are forever inferior. The Switch version is perfect in my eyes, regardless of whatever differences there are in the audio due to my lifestyle. Mainly because of the insane hours that I have to work just to keep a roof over my family's head and food on our table. So, yes. The Switch is VERY appealing to me because of the portability aspect. Certainly can't play literally anywhere from my computer or TV based consoles.
Dude, your intro summary and intro song are totally uncesary. Just get to the point. See how other people do it because I always skip the beginning to get to the info. Also, your reviews tend to have a lot of misinformation.

The intro also doesn't really represent the quality of the videos or the production value very well anymore. It's an old intro, I assume, and in most of the clips the quality is poor and he looks really dirty, neck-bearded, and unprofessional- which isn't at all how he presents himself in all the recent videos I've seen. The intro looks like it's for some channel I'd click away from immediately, but his videos have always been of higher quality than the intro would have me believe.

Just beat this on switch lite after beating ds2 and ds3 on xbox was worried controls would feel wierd but i must say it plays amazing !! Must have for any souls fan #praisethesun

Dark Souls is perceived as being hard only because of the start if you don’t give up and keep leveling yourself and your weapons you can become godlike in no time Dark Souls is all about patience and commitment if you have that playing after awhile you get hooked on this game like crack!!
Bought the game and immediately noticed the muffled sound due to sound compression. That killed it for me. I returned the game and got a cheaper and better copy for the ps4. It is ridiculous that the game has horrible sound quality, especially considering they delayed the game for months.

It is the atmosphere of the Dark Souls that really affects your gameplay... Once you adjust to it you start playing really well... I played Darl Souls 3 and the World the atmosphere got me so I just dropped the game altogether... Nioh has the same atmosphere but I played that one quite well...
The overpowering enemy which are prone to a very strategic gameplay even a single strike thrown incorrectly can kill you...
Imagine you're Miyazaki and you create this deep layered philosophical story that has entire channels dedicated to analyzing it. Then this clown comes along and says it's about good versus evil

Don't buy this version, buy the console or PC version. This one runs at 30 fps and sometimes dips to 10fps. It looks worse and runs terrible on the Switch. Online runs sluggish as well even while paying for the service. A PS4 from 2013 can run the game at 60 fps maxed graphics for the same or cheaper price.
Its basically the 360 port. Better off getting the actual remastered version of the game on PS4 or Xbox One.

The horrible audio compression is a dealbreaker for me. Sounds so muffled.
As a budding audiophile, it certainly isn't optimal, but it is far from a deal-breaker. Like, come on, it isn't a CD or something. It's a game!
I didn't notice it honestly and ive played the Orginal 360 version and on PC multiple times.
Darksouls downgraded it should be called instead of remastered.
Man I can't decide on this one. Never played the original, always heard such wonderful things about the level design, etc. It's on sale for $20, but after playing games like Sekiro and Elden Ring, I'm honestly having a hard time adjusting to the aesthetic of this golden oldie.

@@MrPeach1 I think I started getting invaded at about level 35. Perhaps it's because I spent a lot of time farming first in the Darkroot Garden (where the human opponents are). Then at level 50+ soul farming in Anor Londo (because I couldn't beat the boss). I'm absolutely terrible at PVP and this game in general, and have lost all matches.

You Dont get some of the Souls back, you get all of your souls back.
Also bonfires are activated to fill up health/estusflask, make it your current checkpoint and to level up. There is no Save in the game as youre use to in other games. Every choice you make will be saved whether you use bonfires or not.

I just got this game for the switch in June 2023 and I can tell you it’s ABSOLUTELY worth it. It plays incredibly in handheld and I’d say it’s one of the most well-optimized 3rd party AAA games on the switch. I am playing on OLED tho and that does make a decent difference.
I’ve repeatedly beaten Dark Souls 1 on PS3, PS4, and is trying to conquer the switch version lol. Besides the compressed audio on the switch due to the lack of disk, that’s pretty much the only flaw (my opinion).

Wow, I'm early today! :O I've never played Dark Souls before. I saw a trailer for Remastered recently though, it and it looked pretty damn good. Thinking about picking up some version of it. If the switch version is good that's probably the way I'll go.
IMO DS1 is the best in the series. I'm so glad they brought it back, fixed a bunch of issues and put it out on the switch. It's exciting to think of people discovering the game for the first time, especially since this was one of my most meaningful gaming experiences. Just make sure you persevere! It's totally worth it.
Actually the remastered is better on PS4, the switch has the more similar to 360 version.

Bonfires are checkpoints, NOT save points. Also you got the invasion thing backwards. You can only be invaded if you're in the human state, not the hollow state.

This is just like the monster hunter generations ultimate review. Rushed and not very well thought through. Please either change the title to “first impression” or actually complete the game.

Handheld mode looks like 18 to 20 frames that's why people would complain it looks laggy and nobody wants to pay for less than a fluid experience.

Very very good review. I appreciate that as a newcomer you played it fresh and seemed to not look up much in the way of guides online. This review really does capture what's great about playing dark souls for the first time. Although there are some factual errors, particularly that you can only be invaded in human form, not hollowed form, I love the enthusiasm. This is a great review for anyone who's never played dark souls, I'd say.
You are wrong about the humanity aspect. You can't interact with other players if you are hollow, that includes being invaded. If you are human though, you can summon npc's or other players to help you out, however by doing this you run the risk of being invaded by other players.
Nintendo can’t even port a 7 year old game to 60fps. What a joke.
Did you get to Blighttown? Cuz that where the game took a major deep on ps3 and 360.
oasisbeyond Supposedly sources have reported that it runs about as well as the rest of the game. I haven't fully explored it myself, but so far, I'd say it holds up well. Far better than some videos I've seen of the original. So far anyway.
You can gain humanity by killing monsters in a area with the area boss still up, it’s random but if your farming in that area you’ll See it going up
It’s the 360 version running at a higher resolution, with a slightly better frame rate, and downgraded audio. Is it really remaster just because they raised the resolution and downgraded the audio?
I believe it's named so to keep it in line with the other remastered versions which all have the new (and improved) matchmaking system, changes to how players can use consumables (multiple at once rather than one at a time) and everything else also listed in this IGN report:

Naming it something else would be confusing and bring into question whether or not it is the same game (in terms of gameplay and not graphics, the question being whether or not game play is gimped)

In my opinion, the greatest game ever made, closely followed by Snake Eater. The game doesn't honestly truly start til NG+. It became an obsession for me.

Dude. This is the best dark souls review on the Internet. I have watched a lot of them and honestly none of them seem to even explain the game. Definitely not like a normal person. I was looking for a review to sound like talking to a coworker or something like that so somebody can make sense of this game so I can understand it and grasp it. I feel like you’re the first person to talk about the merchant and you’re the first person to talk about getting the souls and what it feels like trying to figure out the game on your own. I think the Switch version is for newcomers to the series or if you just want to play it portable. I've never played a Dark Souls game & I'm very much enjoying it on Switch, Is it the most optimum version of the game? No. But it definitely plays really great & is enjoyable. Sound quality is fine. Only part that is bad with sound is the voice acting but really how voice acting is there in this game? Next to none.
Drewsefer89 I wonder what voices you are referring to. From my perspective they are pretty solid and suit the atmosphere quite well.
Josiah Ferrell the voices from the NPCs do sound a little muffled. But I’ve never played the original so honestly I can’t compare ether the voices are improved or not. But many people are complaining about the sound being worse so the only thing that would make sense is the voices which to me it’s not that big of deal. Cause the sound in the atmosphere still sounds good even down to the foot steps.
Not really. DS1 is the hardest game in the series. I you're a newcomer, better play DS3. Although, DS1 feels like the most Epic story and bosses are very original.

...but I don't think the sound is a big problem either. The game is still the game. As long as the sound allows you to interact with the world in an informed way, it can pass (in the case of hard ports)
I find your lack of knowledge of dark souls really disturbing. Dark souls is one of those games that I will always remember and continue to play until the day I die. So much love for dark souls.

Yeah, it is truly an awesome game. So happy to have this on my Switch. Even though I play docked, the option to take it anywhere is simply amazing.
To me, my only complaint is compared to PC the sound quality is garbage on switch. Docked or in handheld mode.

I will always buy Dark Souls. Easily one of the best games of all time. Even though they did pull some bullshit with that delay for the game. Funny how the beta test for the game, and the game itself, was made available for preorder the day after Nintendo's Online Service launched. I fully believe that is the ONLY reason that it got pushed back like it did. The game is still great though. Like I said, Dark Souls 1 is on my shortlist for one of the best games of all time.
Damn straight. I play mine docked and this runs beautifully. I think I may even prefer the Switch version for reasons I can't really put my finger on just yet...Either way, it just so cool to see this on the Switch. Who woulda thought Dark Souls would ever be on a handheld?

Seriously The Story is a huge part of Dark Souls it's the reason behind everything. The fact that you're uninterested in the story makes you the wrong person to be reviewing it.
You can also drop a sign down and help other players through the level which is by far the easiest way to earn humanities.

I have the OG version on steam u cant get anymore, and I modded it with the higher textures and framerate, so I am golden on the pc version
I've played it on PC, but the switch has been the place that I get games I really enjoy just so I can play them on the go, at the cost of graphical quality even though it is still phenomenal for a portable system
Intelivsion is coming back with a family friendly console in 2020

no... when your hollow.. your leathery and corpse like, and (for the most part) can only use 5 estus, when you use 1 humanity and restore your normal human form and kindle the bonfire with another humanity (which can only done when your normal) you can have 10 estus flasks (healing). upon being in this state, in areas that you HAVE NOT killed the boss (this could be different in one i cant totally remember) you can be invaded by enemy players, only if your normal human. invading grants humanities and covenant items. haha man listening to people who clearly HAVE NOT played dark souls talk about dark souls is hysterical haha
Played Dark Souls before and very satisfied with the switch version. It's all I'm playing now. Docked & on the go. And the game pauses when you put the switch to sleep...pause in dark souls! That's blasphemy! But...quite useful :)

Its not the 360 version though. I jist played through the 360 versiom and please just trust me I dont care about your web articles, its not the same. Not even close
