A co-worker of mine recently was murdered by the boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend. He was out on no cash bail for attempted murder in Chicago. The offense was committed a few months ago on the man he recently killed. He used a shotgun to the back of my co-workers head. The criminal who killed him is on the run now.

So failure to attend (FTA) charges and bench warrants are going to rise. Once arrested (the government must be feeling strongly about being able to find you) then they'll be in jail until the new court date and the failure to appear is reaolved. This would then cause an FTA charge that could be another misdemeanor or a felony, based on the case.

I wonder about failure to appear. If, for example, a shoplifter or fraudster is released and fails to appear for their arraignment, will they be jailed? I would guess so. But will they? If not, I can imagine those crimes increasing rapidly.

I live in Northwest Indiana, very close to Chicago and feel this is an issue of relevance to my area. I think more than half of these comments didn't even watch the entire video or didn't have their volume turned on. What the system does it takes money out of the equation of pre-trail release vs pre-trial detention. A prosecutor's job is to protect the community and they do so by requesting the violent criminals remain in jail pending trail.
The goal overall with the new system is to keep the violent offenders from buying their way out of jail, thus increasing safety, and to give the non-violent offenders a get out of jail free card basically. The non-violent offenders are not 100% free because they will still have pre-trail conditions set by the court. If the non-violent offenders commit a violent offense or let alone a repeat offense then I would say they should be detained pending trial.
To the people that say crime now has no consequences: Do your fucking research, repeat offenders often don't get to walk out of the jail after the second offense, that was true in the previous system, that won't change in this system.
I'm just wondering how much longer you morons over there will endure the chaos and havoc until the city completely collapses. Chicago is more dangerous than Iraq or Afghanistan and with businesses pulling out in droves due to crime and high costs, it's a wonderous machine of failure.

Many others are caged for disobeying politician's dictates called "laws". Peaceful people are caged for driving without paying for permission. Their jails and prisons are mostly full of people who have not threatened or harmed anyone.
this is going to be good for Illinois, save money, and the people, the public will be safer, this is going to streamline the criminal justice sys, less red tape, clear out the jails, and the courts will be able to clear out back logs, long overdue bail reform. Decriminalizing crime is what we need nationwide. We also need fewer laws, or even no laws and no enforcement.
