I think he just wanted to be the center of attention (the dad) but Whitney wasn't having it, lol and sang his ass off the stage! Did you notice how he jumped back on the stage before the song ended to get his son? How ridiculous because I would've been joyful to let my child spend time with Whitney Houston.
