This is probably the closest we'll get to hearing Godowsky as he is meant to be played. Bolet did study these pieces with Godowsky after all.

Exactly why I couldn’t resist making this video. I just wish we had a studio recording of Bolet’s performance of the 2nd combination study.

It's like Godowsky's hands are having some kind of manic episode when playing Chopin, and it's a battle for control between the more sensible Godowsky and his crazy hands. lol

Devo dire che la trascrizione di godoski del valzer Op 18 di chopin mi piace molto, è ingegnosissima la preferisco che gli studi sopra a quelli di chopin..

Very interesting. It's like purple prose but for the piano (I don't mean this in a derogatory way).

    If Chopin was Viennese

This is like saying, “I don’t understand why anyone would add garlic or onions when chicken seasoned with salt alone is good enough.” If you want to eat plain chicken with salt, then go eat that. If you want to listen to the same interpretation of Chopin again and again with no additional notes or interesting interpretations, then go listen to that. No one “has” to do anything. However, if Godowsky or me or you or anyone feels like writing down some additional notes to an existing piece of music, who’s going to stop them? And why would you stop them? Who cares, honestly?
Also, if Godowsky’s efforts were truly unjustified, then he would have made this same effort with all of Chopin’s waltzes, not just these few. Obviously these waltzes spoke to him in a beautiful way that he felt the desire to build on their existing form. If that seems unnecessary to you, then I’m afraid you’re simply not paying attention.

@@AnExarion As anyone can add his stuff to masterpieces, Everyone has the right to find that unnecessary or disrespectful. I completely share Mr Mario Argentieris opinion. Godowskys approach is interesting, but it is, as if you go in the best restaurant on earth and pull some barbecue spiece out of your pocket to spice the food up. I am studied composer and get what Godowsky wants to do with making the music more polyphonic and complex, but it destroys the extrem clarity and perfect balance of Chopins waltzes. By the way Chopin would have been easily capable of doing the same if he wished to, there are enough examples of stunning counterpoint in Chopins works. Why make things worse that are perfect?

@@nilsfrederking62 Your argument fails immediately when you consider Chopin’s works perfect. I and many others don’t consider them to be perfect. If a chef is insulted because I didn’t find their dish tasty enough, I couldn’t give a damn, because I’m the one consuming it. Everyone has the right to find it superfluous, but they also have the right to consume whatever it is that they want, and not insult those who imagined a work of art in new and different ways.

@@AnExarion I did not say that every work of Chopin ist perfect, but especially some of the waltzes Godowsky did work on are just perfect as they are and belong to my most beloved pieces of music.
